Evil Dead References

Kevin Smith's about to release this new comic book.

'Only 2 days from the release of Quick Stops: Volume 3 Issue 3!'

' ...... When Jay and Silent Bob’s less than immaculate conception of a plan to summon the Angel of Death goes wrong, they find themselves having a holy reunion with none other than their old Dogma buddy, Metatron— '

People always tried to make the Necronomicon more and more disturbing, by making it more gooey, adding stitches to it and so on, when all it took this whole time to make it 100% more horrifying was just to ad facial hair to it.

I just read this comic to see if there are any more references, and the book only shows up for two panels. It has a much more prominent role on the cover than it does in the actual story! No other references to Evil Dead besides that.

There's an Oldsmobile in the Alan Wake game.

I'm saying AN Oldsmobile and not THE Oldsmobile, because it's not quite right. The color is slightly off (especially for the roof), the nose is a bit different and also it has 2 doors instead of 4. But it's still close enough that I would argue that it's a deliberate reference to Evil Dead. Although Alan Wake is mostly influenced by Twin Peaks and the works of Stephen King (to its determent, I'd say), there are definitely some connections to Evil Dead as well, especially with how the supernatural enemies talk to you and taunt you, plus there are also some very blatant Evil Force Dark Presence POV shots in the game.

The car also has kind of a unique role in the game. It's not Alan Wake's car, he owns a more modern SUV. But he drives this one in the dream sequence at the start of the game. When he then wakes up, he's in his own car on a ferry heading towards the town the game takes place in, and the Oldsmobile is one of the cars also on the boat, so you might say it's in his dream because he saw it earlier.

You can also drive the car multiple times throughout the game. There is a couple of missions where you need to go from A to B and on the way you pass various cars that you can use for you journey, the Oldsmobile being one of them. But this one sticks out much more than the others because it's not a 2010 appropriate car, nor is it a jeep or a truck equipped for driving around the forest. The way it's different from the rest of the cars in the game really makes me feel that it's a deliberate reference and the reason why it doesn't look quite right might be so that the developers wouldn't have to pay licence for showing a specific car model.

I'm currently playing Alan Wake II and I'm trying to spot the Oldsmobile there, but so far with no luck.

The front cover art of the 1988 UK death metal album 'In Battle There Is No Law' by the band Bolt Thrower.

I've only remembered because I met one of the ex band members today. Here's Cheryl wearing a helmet.

Army of Darkness comic alumni Tony Fleecs and Tim Seeley are teaming up for a new comic series called The Princess Murders, and #1 has an AOD poster homage variant!

Credit to whoever it was on Reddit that spotted this: an Army of Darkness VHS box appears alongside other Universal-owned movies in the Peacock series Ted (Season 1, Episode 3)

While not specifically an Evil Dead reference, Sam Raimi's Oldsmobile has briefly left its regular comic book gig in Dynamite's Army of Darkness series to hop over to Marvel and make its triumphant return as Uncle Ben's car in Amazing Spider-Man #1000 (in shops TODAY), almost 20 years since it last played the role in Spider-Man 3.

I'm not sure how many references there is in this game but I remember Jack Baker picking up the chainsaw and saying " groovy" . Obviously the makers are massive fans of Evil Dead.

Classic game. But still took me 7 months to complete . What can I say ... horror video games mess my head up .
