I don't think this is about lazy writing. This was deliberate. Sam loves to torture Ash as well as Bruce, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was his idea in the first place. And by the way, I'm from Czech Republic, so we are basically neighbours. ;)

I liked Amanda's character much more than I thought I would so I really like this theory. I bet she'll be very important in the overall story.
