Thesis Statement:
Evil Dead 2 is a direct sequel to Evil Dead 1, not a remake or even a recap with some new stuff at the end like some say.

Evidence:
1. Bruce Campbell has said he doesn't think of Evil Dead 2 as a remake but as a full-blown sequel, even saying "screw you" (jokingly) to someone at a signing event who made the claim in front of him.
2. In the commentary for Evil Dead 2 he said "for reasons unknown" Ash decided to bring yet another girlfriend named Linda to another cabin with another version of the book of the dead. We'll discuss what this might mean and how this could possibly be true.

Consider:
1. In Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness (a non-canon comic book) there are multiple living evil tomes like the Necronomicon revealed to be in the possession of Dr. Strange. In other words, there could possibly be multiple "Books of the Dead" out there. This also means that the Evil Dead remake could indeed be happening in the same universe as Evil Dead 1 and 2.
2. At the end of the Evil Dead 1 Ash is apparently attacked by the Evil Force within the woods, which wasn't totally defeated by the destruction of the book. This attack didn't have permanent noticeable effects on Ash that we saw in Evil Dead 2, but he also seemed to be completely surprised by the existence of Deadites in Evil Dead 2, meaning somehow he lost his memory of the events in Evil Dead 1. What if that was precisely what the book tried to do? What if it doomed him to repeat the tragedy years later, falling in love with another girl named Linda, bringing her to another cabin in the woods which just so happened to have a different (though certainly related) book of the dead? This also explains why the demons are slightly different in every movie in the way they act and appear. The attack from the first movie, which happened when the Evil Force was at its weakest, also serve to make Ash resilient to possession. In Evil Dead 2, the evil was never able to keep its hold on him. He is the only character in the Evil Dead franchise to have escaped possession (multiple times!).
3. In the trailer for Ash vs. Evil Dead, Ash says: "30 years ago my friends and I spent the night in a cabin..." Not "My girlfriend and I", notably.  He refers to the book as the "Necronomicon Ex Mortis" which is a title for the books in both Evil Dead 1 and 2. In Evil Dead 1, the book is also called "Naturum Demonto". Also, the 30 years ago date lines up acceptably with both Evil Dead 1 (1981) and Evil Dead 2 (1987). This implies, to me, that when Ash is talking to Pablo that he's referring primarily to the events in Evil Dead 1, not 2, which is interesting, because the tone of the show is decidedly closer to Army of Darkness and Evil Dead 2 than it is to Evil Dead 1. He also mentions nothing about the events of Army of Darkness, so he could just be simplifying. In any case, the events of Evil Dead 1 are canon, and Evil Dead 2 is either connected somehow directly to it, or it just never happened.

Maybe we'll learn more in the next few months as we wait for the show's premiere. Maybe they're busy rewriting Evil Dead history. I don't know. I look forward to hearing what you guys think!
