I know some people do t care about the reboot of Evil Dead, but did anybody hear about the supposed extended cut that aired in the UK on TV the other day? Someone has actually posted a few scenes on YouTube that definitely were not in the final cut of the film such as Natalie saying "Give me back my hand" as Mia sings "We're gonna get you", David getting possessed after he lights the cabin on fire, and Mia getting picked up by the old man in the end credits.

I love the way the guy sees Mia laying there with her hand missing, and the first thing he asks is if she is alright. I'm also really surprised that it has taken this long for all of these new scenes to finally come to light... and think it might be a little too late for anyone to pay attention to with the new series coming out this year.

Details on extended scenes here:

Heyy, there's proof that they shot everything Fede scripted!  There's the original ending (And the old guy in the car was originally supposed to be Bruce but he refused to do it), there's the burning cabin scene with the Deadite eyes and join-us-ing, there's the "We're gonna get you" clip, and there's the chainsaw bit.

To be honest, I don't know why they lost both David scenes.  I think Shiloh's generally a classic of non-acting and his expression sort of ruins the Deadite eye reveal moment  but both edits are much more interesting than what we got.  The Mia/Natalie scene likely got axed because the GIVE ME BACK MY HAND moment on top of We're gonna Get You... comes off as unintentionally ridiculous and overly referential, which is a shame because Jane is killing it in that moment.  I don't have any idea why they didn't weld the alternate ending onto the main body of the film  if the scene was excised for Bruce's cameo.

The movie was too streamlined as it is, but it could've used this extra meat - and if they'd rather streamlined over coherent, why the hell didn't the axe all the Grandpa stuff and put this in instead?

In any event, I think Nick el Ass is right - the movie had a vogue but it never developed much of a devoted hardcore fanbase; people liked it generally but it didn't leave much of a cultural impact.

I enjoy the hell out of the movie for what it is, and went to see it twice while it was in theater... but it is safe to say Fede made some mistakes in what stayed in the movie and what was left out. Mia singing would have been great to see, but throwing in the give me back my hand part on top would have been a classic case of overkill. The movie could have stood on its own with the basic premise without relying on using so much from the original, and the ending with Mia being picked up barring some odd dialog would have made more sense too.

Jane Levy was awesome.  Shiloh was a whole lot of, meh.

I ended up on the opposite end of the spectrum, disliking it for a myriad number of reasons, but seeing these scenes in an assemblage sort of confirms everything I felt about Fede's direction - it's incoherent, relies too much on the source material and has a lot of Really Obvious Post Conversion.  Since Bruce seems to be the one who was mainly in the edit bay with him, he should have reined him in a bit.

Also I'll forever maintain that Shiloh's casting is what ruined the majority of the movie, and the narrative should have stuck with Mia more.

(Also worth noting: somebody's making a fan edit tacking all of the deleted scenes together.  That's going to make no sense whatsoever, since
Natalie is clearly intact during the last scene with David and in another he uses a saw on her)  (and you can tell it's Natalie he cuts up, we get a clear shot of her face)

The scene would make sense because after the nail gun fight you never see Natalie's body

Only if you just use the fire scene OR the chainsaw scene, not both together.  They're planning on using both, which doesn't work, because David clearly sets Olivia on fire and then saws Natalie in scene 3; we get a shot of her nail-filled face before he starts strapping her down.

According to a comment down in this bloody-disgusting article, StudioCanal sent the wrong master over to Channel 4.  Which makes no real sense - which master is this supposed to be, an unused unrated cut?  A UK cut that got rejected?  None of the versions that made it into DVD release look remotely like this.  You could say this is the version with the "three minutes" restored that they cut to get an r, but nothing in them is more extreme than what ended up in the movie proper - if anything the ending is more tame (plus, of course, there's way more than three minutes of trimmed footage to be had on hand).  People are already accusing them of holding back this cut for DVD release, but my best guess is that they needed more footage to fill out the timeslot and just knit in whatever they had.

I don't get the whole we sent the wrong version of the film thing, and can't recall that sort of thing ever happening with one in the past. Part of me wonders if they were just testing the waters to see what people would think ahead of a big extended dvd release.

I think that theory makes sense.  The general reaction to that idea seems to be frustration mixed with desire in the comments I've seen, and I can't blame them; the movie's barely two years old, it's a little early to be double-dipping with it, especially when it hasn't ascended to cult status/modern classic yet.

Sidenoting: IDK why people think they're going to re-release the remake ahead of Ash vs ED.  Two different universes, apparently two different tones  - if anything they'll flat-out release Evil Dead and ED 2.  AOD if it doesn't turn into a rights issue with Universal (again).  The last thing they want people to do is confuse the tone/lead character when they're looking to build a series.

Someone posted all of the deleted scenes that aired in hd in a single video.  There's some new ones in there, as well as what's above and what's already availible via easter eggs on the DVD release:

(of all of the lost scenes I'm disappointed they got rid of 'wanna play, little man?' the most.  THAT'S your freaking tagline!  That's original!  Why would you lose that?!)
