Taking forever for my Blurays to get here for the best quality, decided to start working early on a film worthy/cinematic-edition of AVED01.

Basically 90% of the cheese is stripped out along with the nudity, drug use, etc, better pacing/dialog/plot/ending. +Non-wussy Ash.

And most importantly I'm processing/grading it to actually be like a real 80's-90's horror that isn't shot on a modern/digital RED-esque cam for MTV. Needs better sound effects/music too. ETA: Halloween 2016:

Can't wait to see the final version, looking forward to seeing what you change up and i gotta say some of the changes are pretty interesting !

RE: AVED the Movie [Working title]

Thanks, I do have experience in grading/processing/editing horror:

Could use dedicated processing rigs/really fast Bluray PC drives.

Maybe I'll start a Patreon or something if there's interest.

I think the AVED footage is salvageable enough to create the ED1-2 movie fans want (Peter Jackson needs to co-direct the AoD sequel :P).

RE: AVED the Movie [Working title]

Looks very nice!

RE: AVED the Movie [Working title]

UPDATE: 08-10-2016, changed working title since at this rate Bruce will be over 70 when they officially make an ED4.

Got a hold of a better source and getting closer to the final treatment I'm aiming for, (this one came out corrupted/too sharp due to something I didn't realize until too late). BTW, the pink light on this hand is now red. Haven't decided if I'm going to remove it entirely. Is this cooler than the ED2 Board Game yet :p

RE: AVED the Movie [Working title]

I like the idea of this project quite a bit, but I would suggest being a bit more conservative with your color correction and grading. The "after" images look harsh and digital (check out the blown out highlights on Bruce's forehead in the latest pic, for example). I'd suggest pulling back just a bit. I fear in your desire to make the image look more analog, you're actually making it look digital and artificial.

I agree with mhb2862. I think the project is interesting and I considered doing something similar myself, and you clearly have the technical knowledge to do it, but I feel you're getting a little too carried away with the color grading. It's just too much, and although it does add a certain film quality to it and it does add a more noticeable horror atmosphere, it looks kinda artificial and doesn't really have the feel of the films in the series, if I may be completely honest. I think a more subtle approach might give you better results.

RE: AVED the Movie [Working title]

Hey thanks for the feedback.

There's actually no where near blow-out on the forehead and a huge blow-out IMPROVEMENT from the ORIGINAL (see the red in the window and chrome):

I'm using a custom grain process that massively improves upon the original camera sensor's jigsaw in low-light and avoids the sandpaper look of the originals in film. I'm also developing a John Carpenter/Fine art or Antique-ish color pallete (teal and brown). Most modern films and bluray releases use teal/blue and orange to jazz them up. So no, the final will NOT look like either.

The edit is shaping up to be more like a moody horror-western than any of the previous movies thus far.

I feel like Ash has aged and matured, so the film should look and feel like it too.

That harshness apparent on the face (at least of the corrupted/sharpened type) is noted and being worked on. There will soon be updates when I have it satisfactory. I'll also have a final 'beauty pass' on faces when I'm nearing the final.

BTW, when I say 'fine art', I mean Jan Lievens and Rembrandt at their peaks, who are still considered grandmasters of lighting and tone:

I would take a step back if you think what you're doing is anything similar to Rembrandt or Jan Lievens. Or if it even needs to be. Regardless, I look forward to seeing the finished product. I still maintain you should ease up just a tad on some of your corrections and bear in mind that you're working with moving images, not still ones. I'm interested to see how the artificial light streaks you've added in will look in motion. Instead of making Evil Dead look like a digital Rembrandt painting, maybe try to make Evil Dead look like an Evil Dead movie? Just a thought.

It's easier to pull back some when you've gone a little over and it's basically done.

But again each Evil Dead looks different.

Picture-Quality wise, the best looking overall is the 2013, but it still looks very digital and MTV-ish to me--and speaking of bad looking light streaks:

Alright got my discs yesterday and ripped them:

Was worried about the quality on just two discs but it's good:

Even at lower res it looks good:

So...what does this thread have to do with Evil Dead 4?

Evil Dead 4 is the Working Title for my AvED S01 Film edit.

Bruce is getting old and now changing his hair and style of dress in the show.

I think this edit is going to be the closest to a 'real Bruce Campbell ED4' that's going to happen.

If they made another Evil Dead they most likely would never even call it ED4 at this point (especially since they officially skipped naming 3).

It also makes more sense than my previous working title, "AvED the Movie" since there is also more than one AvED now.
