Sam Raimi let slip in London yesterday that he plans to write Evil Dead 4 with 'his brother' (probably Ivan) this summer ... we've heard rumours for years so tend not to get too excited except this one is reported to have come from Sam himself. The last time he made an anouncement in England that came true was on his appearence on the late 80's UK Central Weekend T.V. show just after ED2 was released when, heckled by members of the audience, he replied that, actually, he was thinking about setting his third Evil Dead movie in England (to laughter from the audience), so hopefully there's some meat to this latest gossip:

I don't believe a word he says. He's been saying this stuff for years.
 
Very true Elise .. and there's a long way to go from writing to producing it if he is indeed serious this time.

A poster on AICN was suspicious of Sam's timing and sugested he could be saying it again now to raise interest in the remake. Maybe he had fun watching Fede doing his remake and has decided now's the right time .. who knows?
 
It seems a little awkward to me. If they were to make Evil Dead 4, then they'd be remaking the first Evil Dead, then going back to the original continuity. Why make a new continuity if you're going to go back to the old one?
I'm not saying that I don't want Evil Dead 4 to happen, I'm just saying that it would be an awkward transition.
