Tom Savini Needs Our Help After a Devastating House Fire

[Hurley]

Horror fans around the world were hit with an unwelcome scare last Friday when it was reported that horror legend Tom Savini was involved in an electrical fire that ravaged his family home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thankfully, Savini and his wife escaped unharmed, though the same can’t be said for the couple’s beloved cats, Max and Bruce.

Of course there's no need to introduce Tom Savini to any horror fan, though there is also one thing (at least to my knowledge) connecting him specifically to Evil Dead, when he created a skin for the Hunter Ash playable character in Evil Dead: The Game.

That's sad. I'm sure Tom Savini will get back on his feet.

I got to meet Tom Sullivan and Tom Savini in person at CInema Wasteland back in 2008:

Geesh, the poor guy!

It's not a good time to be an OG F/X star. Phil Tippet's close to bankrupt and has lost his Berkely, California F/X studio after 40 years. He'll be selling off some astonishing work.

'Phil tippett's retirement is not the sad part, to me. The guy helped shape modern cinema in my opinion, and his stuff in STAR WARS, EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, RETURN OF THE JEDI, DRAGONSLAYER, ROBOCOP and JURASSIC PARK are eternal. He's one of the founding fathers of Industrial Light & Magic, one of my VFX heroes and deserves all rest and accolades due him. Perhaps the sad thing is that the artisanship that was part of his generation's innovation has evolved into a digital form and we see modern films pixilated and rendered rather than glued, painted and drawn.'

Absolute legend glad to hear he and his family are doing well. Bless the Cats Max and Bruce.
