Lily Collins to Play The Lead Character in the Upcoming Evil Dead Remake

By News

According to Bloody Disgusting, Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror) is in final negotiations to play “Mia” the lead character in the upcoming Evil Dead Remake.

In this version, the story centers on five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) holed up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead with a demonic force unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. As we also exclusively reported, there is a drug subplot.

As previously explained, David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the friend who is heading to the cabin to detox; Olivia is her best friend/nurse. Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons.

After a recent overdose, Mia struggles with her new-found sobriety. She begins acting insane, so it comes as no surprise that nobody believes her crazy claims of coyote dogs and trees attacking her!

The Evil Dead (Cultographies) Now Available

By News

After many delays, Kate Egan’s long awaited book on the Evil Dead is now available. Here’s the description:

Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead (1981) has been celebrated as a roller coaster ride of terror and a classic horror hit, a defining exemple of the tongue-in-cheek, excessively gory horror films of the 1980s. It is also the film that introduced the now-iconic character of Ash (played by Bruce Campbell). This study considers the factors that have contributed to the film’s evolving cult reputation. It recounts its grueling production, its journey from Cannes to video and DVD, its playful recasting of the genre, and its status, for fans and critics alike, as one of the grungiest, gutsiest, and most inventive horror films in movie history.

Evil Dead Remake Release Date and Plot Details Revealed

By News

According to Shock till you Drop the release date for the Evil Dead remake is set for April 13th, 2013. While Movie Hole has exclusive comprehensive details on the plot:

Mia and David, estranged siblings who have recently lost their mother (Mia’s taking it the hardest being that she’s the one who spent most days at the hospital watching her mother deteriorate) have reunited, along with some old friends and his David’s fiancee, for an intervention at THAT old cabin. As reported by Bloody Disgusting this week, It’s here that the near rehabilitated Mia (who has apparently already been cast) will also toss the last of her drugs down the well and finally go cold Turkey.

A big storm sets in. Everyone heads to the cabin. The book of the dead is found, and arrogant Eric (one of the friends along for the trip) takes the most interest in transcribing passages from it. Always the dicks that bring the trouble, right?

Meanwhile Mia struggles with her newly sober self — BIG TIME. She was going slightly loopy anyway from a recent overdose (one in which she technically died from but was brought back) so no surprise that Mia is the first and worst to go bananas. And no surprise either that nobody believes her crazy claims of coyote dogs and trees attacking her!”

Tim-O and Danny Hicks Brain Invasion

By News

Danny Hicks a.k.a. Jake from Evil Dead II and “Tim-O” O’Saben emailed us to let us know that the have a new music CD out called: “The Tim-O and Danny Hicks Brain Invasion, Slightly Concussed”. Here’s some background:

The Tim-O and Danny Hicks Brain Invasion is the “brain child” of musician/actor/producer/horror personality Tim “Tim-O” O’Saben. After a liquor soaked night of swapping industry stories with close friend and veteran actor Danny Hicks (Evil Dead 2, Darkman), the idea came to write and produce a CD poking good-natured fun at Danny’s career and his film industry friends, namely Sam Raimi and Bruce Ca…mpbell. After enlisting the help of musician/producer “Sir”Ian Baird, the Brain Invasion was officially born.

The last two tracks are bonus Tim-O tracks. “Who Goes There?” is based on John W. Campbell’s novella which is the source material for both of “The Thing” films. “The Hiding Game” is based on “The Dark Night Of The Scarecrow” and is dedicated to writer/producer (&friend) J.D. Feigelson.

Diablo Cody Assures Fans Evil Dead Remake Will Not Be Like Juno

By News

In a recent interview with Collider, Diablo Cody assures Evil Dead fans that the remake script won’t be anything like the movie Juno but be “unbelievably violent”.

Cody: I know, honestly I was so excited to do it. I wouldn’t have even gotten involved if Sam [Raimi] and Bruce Campbell hadn’t been involved as well, they’re producing it, and so of course I was like “Alright I have to do this” because I’m such a fan of the original, and the whole original series in fact. But I was nervous to take the job because I thought “Ugh, I’m gonna get shit for this. People are not gonna like this, because all people know of me is like Juno and they think I’m gonna pollute Evil Dead with like wacky dialogue and cute stuff and folk music, and it’s like “No, look I understand what this is. I’m interested in storytelling here and making it scary and good and true to the original.” I feel like people will hopefully see Young Adult and go “Oh, okay that’s a horrifying movie maybe she could pull it off (laughs).”

Army of Darkness Comic Book Series Returns This February

By News

Dynamite Entertainment is gearing up for the return of the Army of Darkness comic book this coming February 2012. The series will be written by Elliot Serrana with art by Mara Mychaels. Here’s the press release:

The evil Necronomicon return in this all new series, but the book will open with a new ally. Who is Ash, and how does she relate to “the chosen one”? Will they manage to stop the Necronomicon from spreading its evil throughout the universe? In this new series Serrano will be exploring these characters and taking them to new places while staying true to the stories we’ve seen in the popular films.

“With the relaunch of the Army of Darkness series, we’re hoping to take the story of Ashley J. Williams’ struggle against the forces of the Necronomicon in interesting new directions, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original film,” says writer Elliot Serrano. “We’re going to meet new characters, face bigger baddies and explore what it truly means to be the ‘Chosen One’ in the AOD universe…So many talented people have contributed to the AOD mythos – not only in the movies but also in comics and video games – and living up to their efforts has been a real challenge. But I’m also drawing inspiration from those creators who’ve gone before me. As a HUGE AOD fan myself, I’m trying to tell a story that I would love to read myself!”

The creative team will take the characters to the Egyptian pyramids of a parallel universe, and this will undoubtedly be great news for Army of Darkness fans. Check out the full size covers for the first issue below. What do you think about the return of the series? Do you think bringing back Necronomicon is a good way to relaunch the book?
