Evil Dead Burn | Official Thread

I dunno, man. I think losing the Book as the enemy was a worse overall thing than losing Ash as the hero. It looses the punch when you say it's a different book. The book IS the character. The Faceless Book continuity is fine for what it is, but it lacks both consistent hero AND consistent villain.

Probably, yeah... until they realize how constricting that is to storytelling (what with one book being locked away from 1923 to 2023 and one being in the castle from 1300 AD to 1981, leaving only one book free during those years).
LOL this is my prediction once they add more directors for yet more sequels.

Also, agreed.

Hey, all. I've been lurking in this exact thread for a long time now (having lost my account info and finally remembered which old email it was under), and I see there's a lot of skepticism revolving around these movies (and totally valid).

But I'm excited for more Evil Dead. I hold no delusions that Burn or Wrath will be in the same galaxy of entertainment we got from the original trilogy, but I'm thrilled to see the franchise still alive almost five decades in. My complaints from the 2013 movie and Rise were only gripes, and I have faith in the team to at least deliver us some quality horror movies with deadites. No, I don't believe we will ever get anything quite like the original Raimi and Bruce magic from the 80s and 90s, but this is one horror franchise that has never spewed out a few absolute dumpster fires like most of the other major franchises, and I appreciate that fact more as I get older.

I, like many of you, grew up worshipping those original movies and believed we would never get anything else again. Twenty years, we waited. For twenty years I ate up every bit of news, just hoping to one day get Evil Dead 4. And I was a staunch hater of the 2013 movie before I ever even saw it, believing it would be just another dumb horror remake in a long string of them. I eventually grew to enjoy it for what it is, a dark and gory modern horror movie, albeit far from the movies I adored so much, but I enjoy it more with each watch. Maybe it's just nostalgia?

But I do know that Bruce will never play Ash again and Raimi will likely never direct again, although a man can hope on the latter. I also know there will come a day when we get no more Evil Dead and the franchise will officially come to an end, and whatever the team makes in this time period will be all we have to talk about. Hell, Wrath could be the end of it all, which is under two years away. I certainly understand most of the criticisms and even agree with some of them, but I'll remain hopeful for the next two movies until they come out and prove us otherwise. Even if they turn out to be awful, I hope we end up laughing about how bad they are and enjoying the conversation.

I agree that even though the series will probably never reach the heights of the original trilogy, it is still in much better state than… any other long-running horror franchise (I honestly can't think of one with a better track record than Evil Dead).

On the other hand one thing I started to learn when I got older was that even if the new entries got really bad… no one is forcing me to watch them or acknowledge them. The guy who was trolling here recently sounded like he made his whole personality around how he hated Rise and how he perceived Sam Raimi as a money-hungry hack. And like… you do you, man. But that shit just sounds exhausting to me.

Yes, I read through all of those posts. Rise wasn't perfect and had many faults, but it had plenty of cool scenes too. And I agree, it's an option to tap out and ignore everything after AoD. That's valid. But these new movies are bringing plenty of fans to the franchise, many who were born long after the original trilogy and will grow to love it as we do, and I view that as a good thing

Look at the original Planet Of The Apes. I was a fan of that before any Evil Dead films had even been made and there's even the in joke referencing it in Army Of Darkness.

Someone in the future will make a direct The Evil Dead remake one day, a Planet Of The Apes remake was made (and multiple versions of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers and another remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just around the corner .. not to mention Tom Savini's remake of Night Of The Living Dead re make. Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead .. the list goes on ..

Planet of the Apes isn't a horror series and even then it still had some cheap and weird movie and TV show entries. I was more talking about horror franchises that have as much entries as Evil Dead (so as of now 5-6 movies, not even counting the show). So through that lens it would be in the same ballpark as Halloween, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and stuff like that. Most of that mutated into direct to VHS shlock, with Nightmare on Elm Street remaining probably the most consistent in quality, but even then it has nothing on Evil Dead, which, even though I'm not the biggest fan of the remake, the TV show, or even Army of Darkness, I must admit that Sam, Rob, and Bruce took very good care of it over the decades and never allowed the franchise to became a cheap shadow of its former self. I mean if somebody like Harvey Wein*tein got his hands on Evil Dead and started cranking out direct to VHS shit every couple of years like he did with Hellraiser, I don't think I would have been an Evil Dead fan today.

New BTS with mild spoilers, nothing that hasn't been seen in the first couple of trailers:

Oh no they are really leaning into the "KUNDA" bit. One thing that's interesting is that even though Sébastien Vaniček is French, the surname "Vaniček" is Czech or at least sounds Czech. So maybe he knows what Kunda means in Czech.

New trailer. I'm not sure if that trailer used a temp voice for the tape recording, but we have a new one by an old guy that namedrops the Necronomicon (NOT Naturom Demonto). I wonder if that's something exclusively for this trailer, or if StudioCanal was willing to let that slide since they're distributing the movie in certain countries...
EDIT: I've since gotten intel from someone who saw the final cut last week that neither of the voices in the trailers are the one that is used in the actual movie!
EDIT 2: Same someone has also said the version distributed by StudioCanal in the UK will be a slightly different cut. They are unsure of what exactly at this time, but it will apparently only be "maybe 2 or 3 things." Wouldn't be a true Evil Dead film if there wasn't some sort of censorship for the UK...

I'm growing increasingly fond of our new heroine's haunted expression in that shot.

Rumors are going around there's a post-credit scene they're blocking critics from seeing to keep the suspense up.
