Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comics Discussion Thread!

Re: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

Dynamite has announced that they will be released a crossover between AOD and the classic horror comic Vampirella :

The events of Vampirella / Army of Darkness take place during Ash Williams’ time trapped in the England of 1300 A.D. When the terrified, primitive screwheads approach the Chosen One with tales of a horrific flying Deadite — one similar to the one he blasted out of the air when first arrived, but much deadlier — Ash sets out with his boomstick and chainsaw to protect his adopted people. At the same time, a raven-haired temptress wants to give him some sugar… as his last meal!

Re: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

Plot details have dropped for Evil Dead 2: Beyond Dead By Dawn and I'm frankly super excited now; details via this this interview with head writer Frank Hannah:

* Takes place in an alternate continuity where Annie doesn't die.
* While Ash does get sucked back in time to fight the evil, he leaves his hand behind - which Annie uses to clone a full-sized Ash.
* Because she needs to use her own blood to finish the cloning ritual, they're bound together in some way.
*Because Ash's flesh is still demonified, he occasionally turns into a deadite without warning, and it's something neither can control.
* They use the book to travel through time and to other places to quell the evil Knowby unleashed on the world.

I'm excited, I admit it.

RE: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

I'm going to have fuller thoughts later, but for right now all I'll say is BUY EVIL DEAD 2 BEYOND DEAD BY DAWN IT'S SO GREAT!

NEW "Official" Sequel comic to Evil Dead 2??

Has anyone else heard about this series? It clearly was given the license for Evil Dead 2 by Sam Raimi and co, and it claims to be canon in its title.

Is this is a sign of AoD being retconned ahead of the new show?

What do you think about all of the various incarnations of Ash in the comics?
There's the Evil Dead (1) comic by Dark Horse, the Army of Darkness series by Dynamite, and now this Evil Dead 2 comic by Space Goat... Until now, they've all been in their own canon and not related to the movies, but can anyone indeed find confirmation from Bruce or Raimi that this new comic will fit into the "Official" timeline as it says on the cover?

There's even a "companion series" to this new "sequel" to Evil Dead 2, called "Tales of the Ex Mortis". http://merchgoat.com/product/evil-dead-2-tales-of-the-ex-mortis-2-comic-book-pre-order/

I look forward to learning more about this series from you guys!

RE: NEW "Official" Sequel comic to Evil Dead 2??

It's about annie knowby in hell looking for her parents souls

RE: NEW "Official" Sequel comic to Evil Dead 2??

We have indeed talked about it about it a bit! :)  There's lots of info in that thread, you might want to check it out.

While AOD is less being retconned than not used for legal issues, Beyond Dead By Dawn definitely doesn't fit into the upcoming series canon....

SPOILERS

...since Annie's being dead figures into Ruby's arc big time.

/SPOILERS

It's "official: in that it's licensed by whoever holds the ED2 license at this point. Before Dead By Dawn is filled with speculative horror tales about the Necronomicon's previous owners, so I'm less interested in it that Beyond Dead by Dawn.

Dynamite Comics has had the AOD license for years and the quality of their comics vary wildly; my favorite is definitely the Ash and the Army of Darkness/Ash gets Hitched arc, with Ashes 2 Ashes a distant second.   Of the licensed-through ED2/TED stuff, the undeniable best is the Freddy/Jason/Ash arc, With Dead by Dawn a very close second (Sincerely, it's well worth everyone's time to read that series).

RE: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

I'm hoping a TPB comes out eventually because I live abroad and can't justify international shipping costs on single issues of comics... though I'm sure it'll be a long time before those series get a TPB release.

RE: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

You can buy them legally through digital means if you like for sure; I know Comixology has a great deal of the Dynamite library for sale.  I think Goat's Head has digital downloads too, and if this is successful enough they might do GNs.

RE: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

Yeah, I have MOST of the Army of Darkness ones in TPB except for the newest. I just don't have the Beyond Dead by Dawn.

RE: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

Is this evil dead 2 comic a what if kinda thing?

RE: Army of Darkness/Evil Dead Comic Discussion Thread!

If//when there's a preorder for it I'll post it out for sure!  I'm sitting on a pile of info that I need to disperse soon.
