That's both a bad and a good idea, since they might screw up the show's linear continuity and people will complain (yes I know, linear continuity in Evil Dead, LOL, but it's different with a show where things generally have to make sense from season to season versus a movie series where installments get delivered in ten year intervals).  Switching around character motives just to suit the plot all willy nilly isn't working for them.  It's stopping people from bonding with characters like Ruby and Kelly.  The only reason they've bonded with Pablo is because they've kept his though-line linear, minus the "I am a determined shaman now oh wait I'm not" part.  At least I know for sure he's a nice, sweet guy who loves Kelly.

And this is why i shouldn't be posting when im half awake :P , what i meant by that "fine tuning" statement is working out the rough edges  that were present in s1 and smoothing it out to keep a soild pace, continuity  between episodes . I should not have said re tooling because the thing this show has been quite good at is it's continuity between its three main characters, yes it was rough at times when it came to there motives in s1 but in some areas they got it right.

With the info we've gotten so far they seem to have a direction and plan for what they wanna do with it's characters for this season and it's really starting to sound alot more better then s1, but i'm gonna be in the wait and see mode until we start to see footage being rolled out for it.

Good choice certainly. There is a resemblance with Bruce Campbell too.

I haven't seen anything to suggest Ash was a Florida native. We don't know that they'll spend all their time there next series, and his parents might have retired there. (I understand Florida is like our Eastbourne in that respect, although that is where the resemblance ends, what with with the heat and the alligators, etc. And being an entire US state rather than an English town.)

Ash may have been unaware as we don't know what his relationship with his parents is like. And that's assuming they migrated there before Ash and co turn up. And there is Ruby's reality alteration stuff going on too...

If Ash's dad is there and his childhood best friend are there, it's a pretty strong hint he spent his childhood there though.  Otherwise there's no reason to presume all is old friends would congregate in the same area, unless word somehow gets out that it's the only safe place in the world thanks to Ruby's meddling.  Why would he call more people he cares about in to help him and get sliced and diced by Deadites?  Why would Ruby keep messing with Ash when her apparent season objective is to Neutral Evil everything she unleashed into doing her bidding?

I see your point. I just meant we don't know the full circumstances of how they end up meeting. They might not have met again in Florida, I.e. will the entire series be there? Will they pop by the old Williams homestead along the way? Maybe the Evil targeted Chet and they rescued him and he decided to join the team. That doesn't mean Ash willingly wanted to put more people in danger by inviting them along (and he might not have felt he was in danger any more if he did. Although that would be rather naive if him). In the end they have minds of their own and can make their own decisions to join him just like Pablo and Kelly did.

And by 'Ruby's reality altering stuff' I meant she might have fixed things to bring him together with those he used to be close to, to keep Ash out of the way. Not to mess with him in a negative way (although it could end up having bad ramifications) but as a sweetener as part of her deal with him. From her POV, the happier he is, the less likely he is going to meddle with her plans of dominating the Evil.

I'm of the opinion that she actually thinks she is doing the right thing, in her twisted way.

A month earlier sounds good to me. I just saw the post of Facebook, and came to share the news, but Joem1k beat me to it. The people here on Deadites don't mess around.

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Pre-Prod Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Oh wow, i just realized with this month early release date that were probably going to be watching it up to december 2nd so i guess this is starz way of trying to keep it out of the holiday season, and all these air dates between September and december are all on friday's. Maybe will see a spike in viewership cause of this change in schedule ?

Ahh, I see.  Well, the character motivation is indeed the weakest part of the show.  We need much more consistency with Ash and Kelly specifically at this point.  And dear God, with Ruby.

I actually agree on that point, we actually seem to have some kind of organization and direction as to what they're trying to accomplish this year.

I still want to know WHY Ruby wants to dominate the Evil.  Her original aim was to unleash it and make it like it was in ye olden days.  They keep switching her motivation back and forth to make her a black hat when she's with Ash and co and a grey hat against everybody else.  This would be moral complexity anywhere else but here it's not working due to shallow writing.

Forever maintaining that this is embarrassing.  Especially when no one from TWD will play along with him, except for Greg.

Indeed, and if they keep the timeslot that might mean interesting things.  In the grand scheme of things, it's both good news (a bit less competition on Fridays, easier to get the show attention, fewer football games to contend with) and bad news (even fewer people stay home on Fridays to watch TV, November sweeps competition, competition with the World Series, audiences might not follow the move and/or stick with watching the show on DVR - and DVR ratings for the show were pretty bad -  and actually the season finale will air on Black Friday if the show plays all the way through from the 23rd of Sept, a travel day and a day when people are generally out of the house).  Undeniably a smarter move, it makes the show a bigger fish in a smaller pond and they are likely hoping to get social media buzz going, but it has its own risks.  So it's a strong but ultimately lateral move.  Anything is better than Saturday at this point tho, yet keep in mind it's called the "Friday Death Slot" for a reason.

I think it could be legit, but it was too soon to announce. That would mean that Starz should officially confirm it as soon as possible at this point, so we're gonna just have to wait and see.

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Pre-Prod Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Maybe they were just testing the waters to see what kind of reaction it would get from people, but I think moving the show to Fridays starting in September would do wonders.

I'm OK with September, at least the whole season ends before Holidays, but Friday night is the worst time to air a TV show. I hope they actually stick to Saturdays.

Like maid pointed out, friday's would probably be better for them as they wouldn't have to deal with so much competition on Saturday nights and would probably pull in more viewers on the friday slot then on Saturday, (bigger fish in a small pound). And them airing it earlier in september and ending before christmas hit's, it will probably bring in more viewers in general, it's also another good thing to note that there's been a lot of people on twitter, tumblr and facebook now starting to watch the show so we could see a spike in viewers when we come back for S2 but for right now were just going to have to wait and see what happens *shrug*, god these months ahead of us are going to be agonizing.

(Yeah i've been watching the "ash vs evil dead" search result and "#ashvsevildead" hashtag like a hawk on twitter and there's been abit more activity on it since s1 ended and it's been given a digital release, the fanbase for the show is starting to show growth which is a good thing, there was a huge spike on it when ted and lee got announced.)

I'm mostly okay with the September start date, but while Fridays are better than Saturdays Fridays are a notorious death slot.  It's only slightly better than Saturday.  Anything from Sunday to midweek would do a thousand times better for them.

I don't know why Bruce posted this, but it wasn't a wise decision.

So there was a love interest before linda,  this is going to be quite interesting to see how this play's out, it makes me wonder what brought the two to break up which is what i find even more interesting about this.

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Pre-Prod Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

You don't have to cutline spoilers in this thread :) I wouldn't say her face screams Deadite but, eh...

That confirms my assumption that they've decided that Ash grew up in Florida and moved to Michigan for college, or at least he went to high school there. Why, I don't know, he's always been...I don't want to say synonymous with Michigan for me but close to it. The way they had him talking about the state in the first season made it seem like an unknown paradise to him. Giving him roots there is bizarre. Giving him a high school girlfriend that's NOT Linda also makes an even bigger continuity mess in the continuity mess that is this canon. My bet that his dad dies and so does she and Ted's character gets resurrected and tortured will probably be happening.

So yes, oh goodie, yet another canon fodder girlfriend for Ash - let's face it, there's no suspense in it at this point, since they're convinced all of Ash's girlfriends die. Looks like they're going to repeat the mistake they made last season and over-pack the season too - we have seven main plotlines to resolve/work with in ten half-hour increments. Compare that to the five we had last season, which had pacing issues and dropped ideas out the wazoo.

This is just my two cent's on the whole "Florida/Michigan" debate with ash.
I think they are going to go with the motto "i was born and raised in florida but my home state is really Michigan", i get this feeling ash didn't get to travel much during his time growing up in Florida and was stuck in a small town community during his child/teen years, so i could see where that unknown paradise about Jacksonville stems from in that sense.

"michelle hurd and the other cast of characters plus how there gonna approach all the plotlines"

i hope i don't come off as being mean  or rude when i say this but i think it's a bit unfair and harsh to be writing her and the other character's off so quickly when we haven't even seen any footage yet and were only in the pre-production stage  of s2 ,  all we've really gotten is cliff notes as to who these three characters are, we don't know there motives, trait's or how they behave around the main three  or know all of the backstory to there characters. All i'm saying here is, i think we should wait and see before we start criticizing s2 before it's even out of the gate :-/

Now as for how they are gonna address all these plotlines within just half hour increments,  i can't say because were only in the pre-production stage of s2 so i can't really add or further elaborate on this subject until i see s2.

Oh sure, I could see that - at least if they don't end up saying Ash was raised in Jacksonville proper!  I keep feeling like the writing is getting confused between this and the Ruby stuff when it comes to character motivation. They could easily go for that, but as you said it remains to be seen.

And of course you're not coming off as rude - my opinions are just my opinion, everyone's allowed to express their own here.  I'm not passing automatic judgement on what'll happen - but I'm concerned I can see where they're doing because it feels like we're in a holding pattern here, and all of the statements DeGregerio's made to the press aren't helping.  It's hard to have faith that they're going to do more with her when we have DeGregerio's statement about "All of Ash's girlfriends dying".  The sheer amount of fresh plot we have this season and the amount of time there is to tell it is just concerning me, which is why I made my other statement.  I guessed right when it came to Amanda very early and I hate to do that here, it's just a nagging feeling I've got.

In any event, let's count off the plot points we've got established so far:
1: Ruby trying to quell the apocalypse and-or encourage it
2: Pablo's PTSD
3: Kelly's revenge plot
4: Ash's relationship with his dad
5: Ash's relationship with his best friend
6: Ash's relationship with his ex-girlfriend
7: Developing the above three characters enough to make us care about them.

That's a lotta stuff to pack into ten half hour segments.  I'm actually curious to see what you guys would like to see them do RE all of this meat, fresh and old.
