BookOfTheDead.ws Monthly Evil Dead Competition

No offence taken Swofty.... its just a matter of getting the time to do this, Im in the middle of a sculpting project and its taking up all extra time i have. and the fact that Rob is in England and im here in the USA..that alone is a problem...I admire Robs work, his attention to detail is amazing. and his knowledge on this subject seems endless. maybe all the planets will line up, and something may happen.

also, Rob what will it cost to obtain a disk with your trip to both ED/ED2 (long version)? mailed to the states....just want to add it to my collection.

looking forward,
DB.

Thanks HB65 and good luck with your sculpting project. I know that both myself and Rob are frustrated that we can't get over there to you to help .... maybe you could bribe some local friends ?  :bigsmile

(can we publicly share "this stuff" online yet?)

Hi all,

Just a quick heads up, July's competition on BookOfTheDead.ws is now online, and June's winner has been accounced. The competition theme will change each month, with some upcoming competitions involving 'the best fanmade replica Evil Dead trilogy related prop', and 'the best Evil Dead trilogy related short film made by a fan or collection of fans'. Each month's prize will be something on the rarer and interesting side, not something you can easily pick up on Amazon for peanuts, and the prize will reflect the difficulty of the competition. The harder the competition, the better the prize.

July's competition is; 'The most obscure/best/rarest item in your Evil Dead collection'. It can be anything Evil Dead related from either The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II or Army Of Darkness. Something you've bought or even something you've created yourself; an original or replica prop, promotional item, book, magazine, comic, poster, DVD, VHS, Laserdisc, soundtrack, toy, clothing, artwork, or a signed/autographed item. Literally anything related. It can be something you picked up locally, or from a far flung corner of the globe, even something you picked up years ago which is now rare today. Just take a photo of the most obscure/best/rarest item in your Evil Dead collection and send it in. The closing date is Thursday, July 31 2014. The winner will be announced shortly after that, along with the next competition, both of which will be posted on this page. Check out the Competition page for more prize information and how to enter.

Hopefully doing this should increase fan participation and encourage people to get chatting on the forums and get creative, as the fan scene has been fairly quiet of late.

Good luck with the move Jake. I've learned to work out how many boxes I need, ignore that then times it by three (and you'll probably still need a few more!)  :wink .... Supermarkets are usually more than happy to give you banana boxes btw, my loft is full of them and they're easy to carry ..

How many of the Evil Dead themed boxes did you make Jake? ... I have an idea that if you take them to various independent shops (antique shops, art shops, dungeons and dragons type places) and tell them you don't want any money for them until they sell, you could tell them the minimum return you want and anything else on top they can keep as profit for being your seller ... you could even sell them through those hippy shops that sell bongs, legal highs etc if they sell them as "stash" boxes ..

When I was at college I had access to a silk screen printing machine. A couple of us bought a load of black T-Shirts then we visited a few grave yards and took wax rubbings of Victorian grave stones. We transferred the rubbings onto the shirts using gold or silver paint and sponged on a few green blobs to look like moss/lichen. We got a local record shop to take them in to sell on commission then phoned (anonymously) the local news paper office to complain that they were in poor taste which secured us a negative article and free publicity! .... we sold nearly all of them. We called ourselves Grave Creations  :bigsmile

.... and don't forget ripping off Victorian engravers original work, callously ignoring that some of the ancestors may have been alive and been offended, impersonating a Daily Mail reader. I shall make it my mission to track down each customer and re-fund them sir  :wink

The whole SS thing never really panned out for me but the uniform was cool to be fair  :wink

Ironically, you were correct .... my last employers did turn out not to care enough about the people we visited so I bailed and am now a restaurant manager ...... again ......  :thumbup

Darn, I wish I could have gotten them but dang the price tag and the fact that all of my extra money goes straight to my credit card...at least after three weeks I'm halfway there! Have been buying only the new Evil Dead stuff that I set money aside for and no money left over for expanding the collection with older items. :/

Hi all,

Just a quick heads up, August's competition on BookOfTheDead.ws is now online, and July's winner has been announced.

August's competition is; 'The Best fanmade or fan-found replica prop'. It can be anything Evil Dead related from either The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II or Army Of Darkness. Either something you've made yourself, or something you've bought which was made as a prop-replica, or even an original item you've found somewhere which matches something shown on screen. Examples include the 'Book of the Dead', a 'Kandarian Dagger', a chainsaw, lantern or necklace, one of the trilogy's various firearms, or even the infamous Delta 88 'Royale' Oldsmobile car! Literally anything related. It can be something you picked up locally, or from a far flung corner of the globe, even something you've had for years. Just take a photo and send it in. The closing date is Sunday, August 31 2014. The winner will be announced shortly after that, along with the next competition, both of which will be posted on this page. Check out the Competition page for more information and how to enter.

One of these days I'll have something good enough to use in this contest!

Good luck, participants!

Hi all, This month's competition is the 'Best fanmade Artwork'. It can be anything Evil Dead related from either The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II or Army Of Darkness. It must be a physical artwork you've created yourself, although it can be a drawing, painting or collage. Computer created images will not be considered, handmade artwork only!

It doesn't have to be something created specifically for this competition, it can be something you did years ago, just as long as it's your own work. Take a photo and send it in. You can enter from anywhere in the world, and the closing date is Tuesday September 30, 2014. The winner will be announced shortly after that, along with the next competition. Check out the Competition page for more information and how to enter.

The prize up for grabs this month is a 1987 Evil Dead II 24-page Japanese Movie Programme (roughly A4 paper sized). While movie programs have long been out of fashion, they're still produced in some parts of the world, Japan is one such example. Movie programmes usually contain the film's synopsis, along with production information, a cast & crew list, and many publicity and behind the scenes photos. This will make a fine addition to someone's collection.

Weh, why do I have no artistic talent?!

Good luck to the participants!

Hi all, You can now head over to the BookOfTheDead.ws Competition page to enter December's competition to take; An Evil Dead Themed Photo. Now, this can be anything from someone in a cosplay costume with an appropriate background, a spooky cabin in some nearby woods, a replica prop you've made with the right background, to a fanmade scale model diorama. It just needs to be a photo taken of something physical (not a computer generated or manipulated image). The closing date is Wednesday December 31, 2014. The winner will be announced. shortly after that, along with the winner and the next competition, all of which will be posted here. Check out the Competition page for more information and how to enter.

As it's Christmas, we have a special prize up for grabs this month, it's a copy of the rare Japanese magazine Uchusen (Vol.37 No.8) from 1987. While in Japanese language, it contains many behind the scenes photos which were never released in western magazines of the time, and some of the photos have never been otherwise released at all.
