Evil Dead Goatse!

New clip!

new domestic BO predictions; apparently it's going to hit somewhere in the teens; Deadline is predicting it will underperform Rise and get mashed by Moana and possibly Minions. Interestingly, the film is tracking high with adult women.

Posting this one for future personal reference, but here's a short interview where the cast mentions that they have character backstories that are not addressed on-screen (if you're into that)
And here's one with Sam and Rob with some interesting little tidbits about "canon", picking Sébastien, and why they revived the Evil Dead franchise in the first place

It's so sad not seeing Bruce out there huckstering with them, but we know he's got other commitments.

I just saw the movie 2 hours ago. Loved it !

Here's a collection of thoughts about it without spoilers.

The deadites are my favorites from the new films (I'm not a big fan of 2013 deadites and I love Ellie from Rise but the others are not as interesting as her). They are nasty, they are all differents, they really play with their victims. Oh and I love their eyes. A cool mix of the yellow eyes from 2013 and the white eyes of the classics.

The violence is more... visceral ? Don't know how to say it. More grounded ? Anyway, it was fucked up haha.

Loved the characters. Especially Alice and Joseph. Alice is especially well developped I think, she is funny, a bit clumsy and the story with her husband is really well made. The dad is fucking creepy.

Sebastien Vanicek is a great director, he play a lot with the camera and he made some beautyful scenes. But, he also said he wanted to direct it as an "action horror" movie, and that's exactly what he did. During the more action scenes the camera move a lot. Not in a bad way, but I personnally prefer when the camerawork is a bit more slow and when the director take his time to show the scene. But I understand why he made it this way, it really show how fucking chaotic the situation is. Again, it's just that I like slower movie more.

It was not as connected to the other movies as I thought. It's mostly connected to Rise, and a bit to 2013 and the rest are more "blink and you miss it" kind of easter eggs. I will rewatch it when I can, I probably missed some things but you can definitelly watch it stand alone, or just watch Rise to have a bit of context for the very beggining of the movie.

I found the movie really funny in some parts, my girlfriend did not, so I guess it depend of your sensibility and kind of humor. But nothing like the slapstick or crazy things from ED2 or AoD.

Stay until the end of the credits :)

Edit: I saw it in french and it was good enough, but I really want to see it again in english in cinema if I can.

Re the end credit scene - spoiler territory:

Does it involve Ellie and a little girl or is that a fakeout rumor that's going around?

Man, judging from that Sebastian said about that (it was the studio's idea, he had nothing to do with it) and how it sounds on paper I was hoping not. Hopefully it plays better than it sounds!

I mean, this is the same franchise that had Cheryl return via a pool of blood from a old photo of her in her room in AvED, so hearing that description isn't out of the realm possibility :ROFLMAO:. It's interesting we will be getting a returning Deadite and Ellie was a serious fan favorite from Rise. So honestly, i don't mind at all this is happening as the idea of a recurring deadite hasn't really been touched upon like this before and it being Ellie is a great choice to do it with. What they do with that, we'll see!

I liked the scene and the way she came back, and I really love Ellie but I'm not looking too much into this. We will see but I'm sure it's just a fun easter egg and not a sign of things to come. The mid credit scene on the other hand...

My screening isn't until 2 PM today, so I still have to wait!
In the meantime, someone on Reddit managed to see the journal prop up close at one of the advanced screenings and snagged a picture. It seems as though they really are throwing out the "2013 is a world where Ash died" narrative since now we have conformation that the events of Evil Dead 2 happened in this new continuity, or at least some variation of it. This is what Redditors were able to depicter
October, 1983: My dear friend Professor Knowby is still missing. He’s been accused of killing his wife Henrietta & his daughter, Annie. The police report makes no mention of where he might be at this current time. My inside source says the police have accused him of abuse. He might be but are refusing to speak about it. Police are keeping tight lipped, but then …… & … about the things. Understand what is their power
So now in this continuity, ED1 and ED2 happened in 1983, retconning Ash vs Evil Dead's own retcon year of 1982.

That's what i'm talking about when I say some references are kind of "blink and you miss it". They really dont focus on this in the movie and you really need to pause the movie to read this.

This say Knowby is "still" missing in 1983. So the original trilogy could still happen in 1982. In AshvsED we clearly see that nobody came in the cabin in 30 years

Very true, but somebody obviously went there in this new continuity if the Grandpa has the "classic" Kandarian Dagger. Either he went there himself or someone called in the police and they started an investigation.

Eh, if Sebastian's embarrassed it then that's enough for me to get concerned by it. I like Ellie too and she's probably my favorite modern Deadite at the moment but resurrecting back into a fleshly Deadite form just from someone staring at your ashes? Shouldn't the kids have been resurrected along with her since they probably comingled in that slurry? Cheryl resurrecting in Brock's house made sense to me because the place had been haunted by her presence for decades and sealed away from use; of course her spirit's there, of course there's something to draw on. This is a funeral home and arguably thousands of spirits from the bad to the good have gone through there and while I get there's precedence thanks to what happens RE Will, his whole ass body is there before it goes through the flames. Like it's Evil Dead but we still have to do some kind of baseline logic in the chaos and most of the movies/shows DO have that buried in the narrative.

Well, maybe it's a replica, or maybe they made several daggers like this one. The grandfather collected a lot of artefacts and daggers and all of them are useless against the deadites expect for the new Kandarian dagger.

Just a warning, you should avoid instagram, I just saw someone I dont even follow upload the 2 post credit scenes.
