How did Ash get the Necronomicon back?

They did not have any rights to Army of Darkness for Ash Vs Evil Dead, which is why it was never once metntioned throughout the season that he ever went back in time etc.

However Ash never brought the Necronomicon with him when he went through the portal to 1300 A.D. The Necronomicon still existed in his time as well as in 1300 A.D. since he went back in time. When Ash was sent back to his time the book should have still been there. I would say that when he returned, he would have returned right where he entered the portal. He perhaps grabbed the book from there and got the hell out.

While it is never shown or stated in the Theatrical cut, I think it stands to reason that in an off-screen capacity, even in the S-Mart ending, Ash would have awoken in England and had to travel back to the US... the reason being that AoD takes place in an unspecified region in medieval Britain. In the theatrical cut you hear the Wiseman telling ash that taking 6 drops and reciting the words Klaatu Verata Nikto will allow him to awaken in his own time (since that requires he sleeps, he will awaken in the future where he is located, just as he did in the original Apocalypse ending - future London. :)

This makes sense as well haha. Nonetheless the necronomicon would still exist in the world when he returned. Looking back at Evil Dead II we know that Annie collected several separate pages to the book of the dead that were not actually inked in blood, including the page showing the hero from the sky. Do you think these were written by the wisemen? These extra pages Annie collected did not seem to have been written by The Dark Ones. The words were written to specifically send the evil back. Perhaps England is where Annie collected these pages as well (we see her get off a plane).

That also brings up an interesting point: it might be in the theatrical ending that Ash doesn't sleep at all, but in fact makes it back to modern times via return whirlpool. /throws out own pet theory

That is also possible yes! I'm sure the wiseman still mentions that each drop allows a man to sleep for a thousand years, but since we see whirlpool travel to appear painful in the end scenes of Evil Dead 2 (by Ash's facial expressions) perhaps we could say that sleep is required for a more user-friendly journey, and the waking of the traveller is a jump off point (or something along those lines?) :)

I actually need to re-watch AOD to double-check that one; I know that the line's slightly looped, between the US theatrical and the UK release.

A possible explanation for the book, could be (and I posted this theory on another thread) thus :

Army Of Darkness definitely happened.
There have been hints at this through-out the show :
The term "deadite" being used to describe the possessed - the first time the term was used was at the end of ED2, when Ash has traveled through time - and of course through-out AOD.
The scene where Ash dismembers his Bad Ash version, and comment along the lines "you'd think that this would start to feel weird by now....", which seems to refer to his previous dismemberment of his "clone".
The most blatant though is in episode 10, when we actually see a depiction of Ash, with his chainsaw held aloft, in front of the castle in the Necromicon, which definitely shows that he HAD been to the past.

Now, taking into account that AOD happened, it makes sense that Ash, upon waking in his own time, decides to try and do the right thing and stop the events of the original movies from happening, but due to screwing up, he gets there too late - perhaps just in time to see himself being taken through the vortex - so couldn't stop anything.
Perhaps he found Annie, and decided to bury her - and then discovered that the book had reformed (it is magikal let's not forget) from the flames and decided to take it, to keep it "safe", and then is attacked by, and escaped from for 30 years, the force in the woods.

Now, in regards to his "armoured arm" it could be just a case of 30 years of wear and tear and it's damaged, so instead had taken to wearing his wooden hand. It's possible he still owns it, but we just haven't seen it yet, as the events of AVED takes place over a small period of time.

Another possible explanation for lack of "time travel" being mentioned - as of yet - is that perhaps after the end of AOD, when Ash had been explaining about his travels through time, he was locked up in a mental institution for quite some time - and has just concluded that the events happened in his head and the book is just a book - thus not being too concerned about reading "poetry" from it. Although the while running from the evil "just in case....".
