Gen Con has happened, at which was played a special event, so I'll assume this is no longer a secret:

Coming soon (date TBD) is Army of Darkness vs NECROBORG, an officially licensed role-playing game running on the totally righteous MÖRK BORG engine. I'm pretty excited about this one, as it brings the fun and frenzy of AoD at you with a very tight, rules-light system that favours over-the-top action and brutality. If you're new to the system, absolutely check it out; it's fantastic.

The core book has been written by myself with input from Tom (we both worked on Evil Dead 2), as well as the designers on Vast Grimm (another great book to look up).

I'm not sure about dates or what else I'm allowed to say, but keep your eyes peeled.

Any questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer what I can.

Shop Smart!

It's a shame there's no formal press release announcement or article about it so the good word can be spread to the masses...

Gen Con 2026 broke attendance records, and there was a tornado warning in the middle of Saturday that caused a leak in the convention center... but that didn't stop attendees from going out and enjoying the city. I hope they also got a chance to check this out.

Here's a sneak update for you loyalists. This is firmly RUMOUR until it isn't, so keep it under your hats for the time being.

The Army of Dakness Vs Necroborg campaign will be entering prelaunch in the next few weeks once a few other pending projects have successfully moved into their penultimate phases.

This means there'll be a media push (hopefully you'll see the ads) and everyone will get a chance to peruse what we're offering. The campaign will become active some time after that, probably in/around everyone's favourite spooky season, and because we're at the point we're at, the turnaround between campaign and delivery should be SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than in previous campaigns.

So yeah, now's the time to get familiar with Mork Borg, if you're not (it's a REAL hoot of a game) and get yourself ready for Ash's arrival in a world destined to be consumed by the ever-hungry Army of Darkness.

This sounds really interesting! Since it's based on the MÖRK BORG engine, can you say yet whether Army of Darkness vs NECROBORG will be compatible with Sölitary Defilement for solo play, or whether it would require some adaptation?

I have not read the Solitary Defilement rules, although it's on my list. I assume it would most likely work fine; we add some stuff and make some tweaks but our stuff sits fine next to the original rules. Still, I can't say with 100% certainty.

Super strange that this post was turned into a Screen Rant article! To clarify, I never worked directly on the Board Game!
Look... not to knock on this guy for trying to write an article based on what basically amounts to a one paragraph forum post, but it seems like there could have been some deeper research on the subjects... like the people involved or a passing mention of AOD's previous RPG history, maybe actually using pictures FROM Army of Darkness in the article ABOUT an officially licensed Army of Darkness product, or actually talk a little bit about the Army of Darkness movie instead of all the other Evil Dead installments except AOD!

I'm gonna drop another tiny update here, even though it's less secure than I thought it would be, but aw well.

I have submitted the final manuscript on the project (spoiler, there's more than one book) and I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty happy with it. I've seen the plans for the campaign and they look sweet. We're patiently awaiting some approvals before sending that out into the world (working with movie studios takes time).

I do recommend you get out there and grab a copy of Mork Borg if you have any interest, 'cause it's a great book, although you won't NEED it to play Army of Darkness.

So its safe to assume they're holding off on launching it until MGM gives it the green light for approvals. Provided all goes smoothly, is it gonna be launching by the end of the year?

Honestly, I have no way of knowing. The plan always was but is entirely at the mercy of the higher-ups.

And grand scheme, there's lots of other stuff in house that has priority, so the later this launches, the better, in my mind. As eager as I am for the world to see, if it hasn't launched yet, it can't be late.
