Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 General Discussion Thread

That would actually be really interesting. I'm guessing that's him being in the not!Upside Down.

We get a quick glimpse of Dalton who is laying on the ground right before it jumps to Ruby getting the saw. I have been sitting here combing through the trailer to see if there is anything in the background I missed, or anything weird in general... and there is one clip presumably of Ash in a doorway that is kind of interesting. I darkened it a little to see things better.

(Notice his shoulders)

It's a greenish type color, and there's decomposed hands trying to drag him away into the green like mist.
(I'm gonna take a safe bet and say this is the dead world episode)

2. Tank

I also noticed this little tid bit and it could be troubling news for our main hero

(If you look to the left, this creature has the tank in it's hands, only one can assume ash is in that tank. I'm very worried of what the end result will be to this scene)

I'll come back for more if i notice anything else.

I just noticed in the background of the scene in which Brandy stabs the dude in the face with the dagger we see Pablo carrying what appears to be Kelly over his shoulder.

I'm also pretty sure the Dalton thing comes from the same episode as the picture of the sheriff's office, and someone made a really nice gif of the demon picking up the tank. You can see that there is a glowing in the back of its throat so it might breathe fire.

View attachment 58

Oh, yeah... and for what it is worth we learn that Brandy was possibly conceived in the backseat of the classic.

/You guys have to forgive me for the quality of the images because I'm using a basic photo editor of a laptop to zoom in to get certain shots.

I don't think it breathes fire, it's shaped like a hole like it just got shot, plus there's another hole in the chest. Plus it's coughing out blood, so it's likely ash gave that thing a good old tank round to the mouth and it burst through right into it's chest.

I'm completely unshocked that Brandy was conceived in the back of the Classic. There's something quintessentially Ash about that.

I'm really curious about the dark ones, the hints at expanding the mythology and I'm loving the huge demon. That actually looked pretty impressive. This season certainly has the potential to deliver some of the best moments in the show.

Unfortunately, everything else in the trailer just gets a big "meh" outta me. It just looks like more of the same drivel we got in the past 2 seasons. I don't really care about Pablo + Kelly, the Brujo stuff, the daughter subplot or whatever Ruby is doing, and the trailer does nothing to get me more interested in any of that. Also, it seems that once again, they're biting a lot more than they can chew. This season seems to be shooting in a whole bunch of different directions at once and I don't think they have the running time necessary to develop all of those storylines and characters properly. I fear that, once again, we'll have a whole bunch of wasted plotlines and characters this season. It seems to me that this season will have the same lack of focus that plagued the past seasons. I still don't understand why they didn't turn Lacey into Ash's daughter if they were so hellbent on doing that particular storyline. Instead, they wasted both Lacey and Linda B and now we get to meet ANOTHER one of Ash's old flames who has a daughter of her own, just so they can do that storyline. Linda B being apparently thrown to the curb this season is particularly grating considering the character development issues the show has had since the beginning. Well, at least the actress who plays Brandy seems to have decent comedic timing to bounce off of Bruce. And, of course, there's the big cherry on top of it all: It seems we're also getting an "Ash gets his head shoved up a corpse's ass 2.0" scene, only with semen instead of feces.

So I'm cautiously optimistic of about 10% of that trailer. The other 90% just looks like more of the same to me. Also, the "pseudo-upside down" and 80's music in the trailer seems like a really lame, really lazy and really desperate attempt to cater to what's popular right now.

You guys ready for this? :D

I 100 percent agree with all of this, and still think Lacey was such a wasted opportunity and would've been the best 'out' for the Kelly storyline. I had a feeling that Linda B was supposed to be fairly important from the way she was talked up but this season she's apparently going to poof into the ether?

God I love Far Far Away Site. They're always on the spot.

I remember that literally the first thing I thought about Lacey when they first revealed the character as Linda B's daughter was "Ash's her father". I think I even mentioned it here at some point. It was kinda obvious and at first I was glad it didn't turn out to be true, but now I wish it did, just so they wouldn't decide to do the exact same plotline again now but actually following through with the daughter reveal. I'm actually surprised they didn't name Brandy's mother "Linda C".

I'm actually relieved on that point! Maybe they didn't want to belabor the joke anymore? Or the Candy/Brandy joke was that powerful?

I think you did and I was anti that theory because man would that've been adding another step onto the humiliation conga line the sheriff had already endured. But it would've been the smarter choice in hindsight.

I'm sure that scene will be LOADS of fun for everyone watching, haha.

PFTTTTTTTT

Spoiler-laden set report from Bloody Disgusting, which I will look at in a bit! I AM NOT KIDDING ABOUT IT BEING SPOILER LADEN. LOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK.

EDIT: Deconstructed this for the best ones, though YMMV.

“At first, Ash told Kelly that she was like, ‘The daughter he never had,’ and Kelly would never admit it, but she liked that status and rapport with him,” says Dana DeLorenzo about her character Kelly. “But all of a sudden, boom – what do you mean you have a daughter? So at first, Kelly sees Brandy as something that needs to be babysat, another obstacle. Quickly Kelly realizes, ‘Oh wait, I see myself in her,’ and decides she wants to protect her and take Brandy under her wing, the way that Ash took Kelly under his wing.”

Ray - “We’re trying to keep Brandy alive, Ruby’s trying to take her away from us, trying to get her to turn on her dad because she’s the only one that can really kill him.

“Ruby needs Brandy to kill Ash because the prophecy says that the only way that Ash Williams will be killed is by his own blood.”

Ruby would love nothing more than to turn Ash’s daughter against him, and tries her best to gain Brandy’s trust by masquerading as the cool, relatable guidance counselor.

“She’s kind of like, the cool high school counselor who smokes weed with Brandy and treats her as an equal,” explains Carver-O’Neill about Brandy’s teacher. “She’s the only adult other than her mother who’s treated her with respect and equality, so she’s more of a friend as well as a guidance counselor. She’s a mother figure to Brandy, but she has her own agenda.”

“Pablo’s becoming much more of a, they’re calling it ‘Brujo Especial’, I call it the ‘Cuervo Especial’, where he’s now becoming his uncle,” explains Campbell. “Pablo can read from the book, he can read what the words mean now, and he can open the rift. He can move among the Deadites undetected because it turns out he’s got one foot in evil and one foot in good, so he can be an interpreter for us. It all becomes very instrumental in becoming Mr. Wizard.”

Pablo is not only becoming the Brujo Especial, but he’s also becoming one with the “Book of the Dead”. Ever since Ruby removed the face of the book at the end of season one, and plastered it to Pablo’s face, using his essence to help her breed her children, a.k.a. ‘The Dark Ones”, Pablo has been slowly merging with the Necronomicon. Now he is not only able to read the book and use it to aid his companions, but he’s also able to do things like enter alternate dimensions, and walk amongst demons without being targeted.

Ray: "He goes to this crazy realm where he meets his uncle and his uncle makes him go through this ritual which leads him to be a Brujo. As a Brujo, he owns these qualities that he never had before. He can open portals to different dimensions and read the Necronomicon. The Dark Ones see him as one of themselves, so he’s able to walk amongst evil undetected.”

Somehow while Pablo is practicing all of this magic, he still manages to conjure up a little romance, as well. Pablo and Kelly have been brewing something special for two full seasons now, and according to Santiago, in season three, our boy will finally make his move.

“We kiss a couple of times this season,” Santiago blushes. “We kiss once when she saves my life and once when I save her life. I think it was a thing that I fought for a lot, because I felt like every time I would interact with the fans, they would always ask about it. So, I always pushed for it because I always felt like Pablo’s heart belongs to Kelly.”

“Kelly and Pablo definitely take their relationship to the next level in this next season. It gets to a point where, almost in spite of herself, Kelly gives in to this feeling of love. She goes through these major transformations this season. It’s not always fueled by anger and revenge, it’s almost as if this season takes Kelly to a new level of vulnerability. She finally realizes that what’s important are her family that she has adopted through bloodshed instead of just her blood.”

Everyone dies at some point on this show, and now, it’s Kelly’s turn. Whether or not she will be returned remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – her body will live on well past her lifeline, as her corpse is possessed by a demon known as Kaya, and is led by the evil Ruby.

"....Kaya, who is this Shaman-esque woman basically from the past, teams up with Ruby,” says Dana DeLorenzo as she carefully breaks down Kelly’s journey.
“They knew each other way back when, and Kaya needs Ruby to help her, to get out of this immortality, this weird limbo. Kaya takes over Kelly’s body and is running around as Kelly. Sometimes she’s Kaya, sometimes she’s Kaya/Kelly, which is when she’s trying to fake it with Ash and Pablo. But then, we see the real Kelly in this weird rift underworld, and we might see some other people too that might die…but there are even more twists than that. Kelly does come back…well, sort of.”

“We have horrible sequences coming,” assures Campbell about the monster status quo in season three. "Fighting a headless corpse with an animated baby inside of it, a demon baby with a corpse that’s animating it. Fighting a sperm bank and it’s Ash’s sperm that he saved up over the years, and he’s been a good donor so imagine where that can go.”
“There’s a fight where I fight a possessed guitar,” says actor Santiago, so giddy he could bust. “There’s this really cool sequence in the season premiere where we go to save Brandy from Deadites at school, it’s how she’s introduced to the equation, and we go into this band room and all of the instruments become possessed and they attack us. I fight a possessed guitar with an axe!”

In the season finale, Elk Grove undergoes a major battle that takes place on the streets, with trees burned to the ground, cars flipped over, Deadites flooding the pavement and Ash riding high in a military tank, speeding across shaky, post-apocalyptic territory. Ash fights the biggest boss battle of them all – a sixty foot tall Kandarian demon.

“It’s the big one, the mother of all demons,” Campbell reports as if it’s just another day on the job. “That’s what Ash is fighting with the tank, so it ends up that Ash is finally going to fulfill his destiny. He has to own up to who he is – if he’s the chosen one. Sam [Raimi]’s theory has always been that every millennia, the evil rises to test the mettle of the average man, not the special man, the average man. It’s a little biblical because there’s some story in the Bible, Evil’s like, ‘Let’s have Evil fight Good. You bring me your best man, I’ll give you our best man, let’s duke it out and see who wins.’ On the good side, they’re like, ‘I’m just gonna send you a schmoe, because we’re so confident in Good that even a schmoe can take you guys out.’ So that’s why Ash is essentially the Chosen One, he has no skills, zero skills, he’s not Navy Seal or former FBI.”

I can see a looot of people having problems with the somewhat Dawnlike appearance of Brandy in the mytharc as a huge The Key-like figure. There's a lot of blatant Buffy/Angelverse notes in general going on here; I'm really side-eyeing the KELLY IS TOTES ILLYRIA development (And it sounds like the way they're establishing it is as confusing as fuck). I'm also laughing at Bruce complaining about head up the butt in retrospect after bragging about it AND promoting the coroner spider jizz scene from this one. But I do like parts of this. Execution is going to be important. There's already wayyyy too many plotlines going on for ten half-hour episodes so I sense the same problems the show's always had will happen again.

ALSO KELLY AND PABLO BARELY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER LAST SEASON COME ON GUYS. Also how satisfying is Pablo and Kelly reuniting going to be when she's a shaman woman for like forty percent of the time?!

My best guess for the season finale is that they win/kill Ruby and her minions (and that the Deadite kid Ruby raises and rips from her womb turns out to be that demon) . But Ash gets badly injured and Brandy has to mercy-kill him, but this is OK universally as she is on her way to take up the mantle and has Pablo and Kelly to look out for her. If they get renewed then there's a way to resurrect Ash from the dead, if not, bittersweet ending.

...And that will likely make the fandom go boom if it happens but this is my guess.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT READ THAT ARTICLE, IT IS FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH IMPORTANT PLOT DETAILS AND TWISTS OUT THE WHAZOO. IT EVEN SPOILS THE ENDING TO THE SEASON FINALE ITSELF AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE.

DO NOT READ IT OR MY SPOILER THOUGHTS.

Why the hell would this kinda article be posted when the season hasn't even aired yet. Just blows my mind that they don't even have a spoiler warning in the headline itself ! *DON'T READ IT*. *end psa*

I really regret reading that article now....

I can't believe they would reveal so much heavy details like this before the premiere. But oh well, let's dive into it

1. Pablo and Kelly
FUCKING FINALLY. i'm glad this is getting more fleshed out as it was a big part of s1 and was slightly touched upon through subtle physical moments and their interactions in s2. it's nice to see they are finally giving a conclusion to it or at the very least finally making it happen. (@MaidOfKandar there was more then just looking at each other in s2. In the police station and the episode following that, kelly was all over pablo from hand holding, jumping in front of him to keep him from getting shot by the sheriff, to the pep talk scene in ash's house to her reaction to his death. There was plenty of moments between the two in s2 then just slight glanced looking.)

2. Kaya/Kelly/Her being expanded upon.
Now this is a very interesting turn of events, i really wish this wasn't revealed as it would've been a great twist for the season, but nevertheless this sounds very cool and i'm interested in seeing where this one will go. It's nice to see kelly is being given a story that's something more then just her wanting "revenge" and were going to be see more sides to her character then just her anger and smartass remarks.

3. Pablo's powers/Abilities/Role
Yes,yes, yes and YES. Finally pablo is finally getting to do something that doesn't involve him being the punching bag and is actually getting to take charge ! His role this season just sounds fucking awesome, i can't wait to see how they will execute all this but all of what's been said here, Pablo's going to be this season's MVP, calling it.

4. Sperm Sequence
Honestly, i'm not gonna treat this one like a big deal as it really shouldn't be a big deal, it's just gonna be funny disgusting sequence that involves ash and a deadite with sperm involved, that's it. The one thing i will point out though, they aren't heavily selling/pushing this as a main selling point for this season like they did the gore/effects for the last season. The character's and story are being pushed more. Even bruce seems keen on downplaying the disgusting stuff in favor of "actual storytelling"

5. Brandy's Role
Another interesting thing to read about, and ruby's role with her. It's nice to see they are taking a more psychological route with this then say well. What craig had in mind. I'll be very interested in seeing what happens here with this.

6. Ruby
Holy fuck, they are not playing games with her character this season, i can't wait to see how Lucy pulls this all off because man did they give her a lot more to do this year. Wow

my NON-SPOILER thoughts.

all of what i read in there, their doing a lot more this season then what Craig did in 2 seasons. There seems to be more of a focus on the characters, story and well the world this season then just the blood, carnage and disgusting stuff. hopefully the execution is good and if this is the final season they could be very well be going out on a BANG rather then a dud. I just wish i could wash my memories now of reading that article and went in without knowing important plot details, twists and last but not least. THE ENDING TO THE SEASON ITSELF.

But yeah, this is going to be a pretty wild ride !

*Just realized out how late i am to the party with that warning...*

Seems like bruce isn't all that thrilled with said article judging by this tweet.

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't entirely spoil the ending (there seems to be something more there Bruce isn't saying) but yep - I was serious about my spoiler warning, and I've added some extra emphasis to my post to make certain that everyone's careful when they look at the article. I'm sorry you felt that it spoiled the season for you @Joem1k !

@Joe - I have a feeling that Starz is so intent on pushing later digital watching and trying to charm people into keeping an eye on the show as it spools out that they just don't care. They wanna shock and awe the audience into giving them ratings at this point. I'm still surprised that in an era where shows like even Highlander ban media access that they revealed this much.

I'll be coming back to reply more this weekend!

What the actual fuck is wrong with Bloody Disgusting?! What is the actual point of pretty much ruining the entire season? The people who run that site never fail to amaze me with how retarded they can be. Happy to have the warning and put one up for my site as well.

@Elise41 - I'm pretty much used to them fucking it up ever since they basically endorsed that Blair Witch sequel in exchange for advertising $$$

What amazes me is no one in the comments has complained about it yet.

My thoughts:
Stuff like "Kelly's gonna get possesed", "Pablo will become a inter-dimensional shaman", "Ash fights a giant monster with a tank" does not really thrill me. It might be entertaining. But these are only plot points. Not character driven arcs. There are no deep motivations like "Loving but soon to die father begins to sell meth to support his family". And the show never really had any in the first place. I think one of the few examples would have been Fisher, how she was presented in the first episodes.

Her motivation/arc was: Proofing her innocence and getting back on the job.

But the rest of the main cast? It boils down to ...

Ash: Being part time goofy part time badass.
Kelly: Being tough and rude.
Pablo: Beeing related to a shaman.
Ruby: ???

These are states, not developments. Characters are trapped in the status quo.

Maybe they will do it different in S3 but alone from the Infos we got I do not really see it (except the bit about Kelly not being about revenge that much anymore).
