Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 General Discussion Thread

I love, LOVE, that poster.

The trailer has me feeling a little more optimistic as well.

(and in a tiny quibble, that is one poorly-rendered in paint fake hand Ash is sporting. I can see the hair on the back of Bruce's hand).

I saw that picture, but thought it looked odd since his old hand was a wood one that wasn't articulated... and wondered if someone lost the original so they just decided to just paint his hand. Now the poster on the other hand is totally bad ass as well as the trailer. I knew something was coming, but didn't expect all of that.

It is amazing the difference a properly cut trailer can make.

Hmm, I'm still cautious in general; this show has a way of spitting out lovely, amazng looking trailers. Then full episodes happen.

Quick rundown of what i liked and didn't:

THE GOOD:

The effects were generally nicely gooey and fun.

I really like the person Candy's turned in to (Too bad she's gonna be dead fairly soon in the season from what I can grasp)

I actually laughed at the Harpo joke and "We're still getting to know each other."

Pablo's arc is FINALLY gonna ramp up!

I like Brandy so far, though I'm expecting some people to end up rejecting her.

"I've never been so proud." The Brandy and Ash relationship could end up finally bringing a proper sense of feeling to the series.

That little "come get some." The show's movie callbacks rarely feel earned, this one did.

THE BAD:

* The biggest big bad is just a giant-ass monster? Well. It is Evil Dead apropos. Yet didn't we already do this in ED2? I figure the final test would be something a little different and maybe psychologically haunting.

* Again with the demonically possessed Kelly stuff?

* Ruby basically being reduced to Demon-producing-mommy. She does get to threaten Brandy a little and get sawed at by Ash tho.

* I still have no idea what the hell Dalton has to do in this season. He's important enough to have a character poster and doesn't show up at all in the trailer?

* So I was wrong and Ash...forgot he got married. And at least didn't know about Brandy before leaving. But really? Ash was just that drunk and that dumb? This is going to be their choice there?

* The MUST TOP COLON SCENE aura of Ash nearly smushing his face into his own jizz.

* I still don't know why Candy and Ash had to get Vegas-hitched, since their being married influences nothing.

* Where is Linda B? Is she just going to be written off?

* Brandy losing a finger to a Deadite phone feels almost too wink and nod.

I'm a little more optimistic than I was with the teaser, but don't forget the teasers' elements will show up in this season too. I don't trust Starz' marketing team at this point.

It looks amazing, but it also looks like it might be purely drawn versus a photo manip? Not sure.

I can't help it, but the giant demon/Deadite thing reminds me of what happens to Eldridge in Fistful of Boomstick... and now I can't help wonder if they decided to tie in some stuff in terms of looks from the game.

Good trailer but stil a mixed bag for me. Everything from the first trailer should have been thrown in the garbage. Unfortunately it will be part of the series.

This trailer is much more epic which is great ,but stained of bad jeez jokes....Which on the other side, is not great at all.

Been awhile since i've been back here, guess it's good as any to jump back in at this point and break the hiatus.

Love the poster (and i must add, probably the best poster they've produced for this show.) and i loved the trailer, really stepped up from the last one with a song i really love and they made it work.

Here's a List of stuff i thought was great and what i noticed. (Full breakdown maybe coming later, if i'm up for it)

-Great

-Probably just me, but the dialogue feel's a lot more smoother and lively, not to mention much more snappier, quick and dare i say witty, doesn't feel slow or telegraphed at all like they are trying to make a line work it feels very straight forward and smooth in the delivery. (Best one by far was the name scene in this trailer)

-The epic feel of this season and the overall grand scale of it all. I never got that with the other 2 seasons.

- Deadites, dark ones, big apocalyptic demon OH MY. Seem's like everyone is coming to play this season ! :D

-Brandy and Ash are gonna be the highlight of this season, i can feel it just from the two scenes we've seen with them. Brandy is gonna be a welcome addition to the team as well, arielle already seems to have great chemistry with bruce, can't wait to see more of this duo.

-Crazy Demonic Ruby, can i just ask where the hell was this ruby in the first two seasons, lucy looks like she's having a damn ball in each scene she's in, i love it !

-Pablo's arc as a shaman is finally happening and more TIO !! :D

-Action seems a lot more tight and elaborate this season judging from what i've seen so far of the footage they aren't playing around for this one.

-I like that they are keeping dalton in the foreground and not revealing all of his character yet, i hope he deliver's

-Main character's actually getting hurt / losing limbs

-Main tagline for this season.

-Ripped Shirt Ash

-Candy and Ash's relationship and how they play off each other.

-The evil force being more elaborate and dangerous this season with it's surrounding area and objects

-Stuff I noticed

-Kelly getting possessed by a dark one or getting paralyzed by one. Not for sure, but the two scene's don't match up due to her attire in both scenes. (something fishy is going on here, the cast did mention several times that "no one can be trusted" maybe this is a glimpse of that)

-Brandy wearing dalton's jacket (Possible love interest scenario there?)

-3 dark ones coming through a portal, seems like ruby is gathering a army plus raising a demonic child

-"A supernatural war is brewing" - Ruby, very interesting choice of words there.

-Ash dodging the semen, i wonder if that won't be the joke of that fight scene. We anticipate ash to get covered with the stuff, but he actually manages to leave the room unscathed and from what we see in the scene his doing a balancing act of trying to avoid the stuff, if they play it that way i'll be pleasantly surprised.

I think that just about covers it, like i said before i may do a full breakdown later if i'm up for it. But overall, i'm completely pumped for this season ! P.S it also appears to me, that we ain't being shown everything that's at play here in this season....

Don't know if this was posted yet, but i figured this might peak your guy's attention.

Ash-vs-Evil-Dead-Another-look-at-season-3-Courtesy-of-Matt-Klitscher-Starz-1.jpg

As fans can see in this exclusive production still, Ash vs. Evil Dead is going to a brand new realm in Season 3, the likes of which the characters have never seen before. "The Dead World is a realm never explored in the Evil Dead franchise," explains Ray Santiago. The murky, ashy, almost Stranger Things-esque location might seem similar to our world, but is "a place where all your greatest fears come to life, and force you to face what scares you most." Fans should expect Ash and team to be pushed to the limit in Dead World. According to Santiago, they can "trust no one. Who is dead? Who is alive? No can tell." "In the Dead World, even Ash and the gang might be done. [It's] a place where the choices you make determine your next destination," says Santiago. "Dead or alive, here it comes."

Before anyone says anything, yes it is similar to ST upside down, but here's the thing. That show also takes inspiration and stuff from various property's and turns it into their own thing, and it's not like we haven't burrowed stuff from other places as well.

*cough**cough*necronomiconhplovecraft*cough**cough*

But anyways, this should be a very interesting episode to see play out, i wonder if this won't be the episode ash breaks down. Hmmm....

I can't be the only one who's reminded of a Graboid from Tremors!

I think that'd at least be a new avenue to explore.

Any chance the jumbo-sized demon in the trailer & poster is meant to be rotten apple head, or a related demon?

That's my hope too!

Yay Joe's back!
-Brandy wearing dalton's jacket (Possible love interest scenario there?)

I hope not, since he's being introduced as Kelly's lover from what I can grasp!

And well nope, that's a brand new thing

The set design is interesting but I think aping your younger contemporaries like this might be a little "too soon". It depends on how they handle it since it really is very upside down. Is this what the real world actually looks like while Ash and the others are inhabiting the fantasy Ruby's conjured for them? I sense a maybe-twist?

1st.
I won't mind it if it does happen, plus in the previous trailer we see pablo and kelly kissing, so i have pretty good feeling dalton and kelly isn't gonna last long. Plus i feel like they are keeping dalton in the dark marketing wise for a very good reason considering his backstory.

2nd
You mentioned earlier about wanting the psychological aspect to come into play for character development, seems like to me that aspect could come into play when they go there we might be in-store for some personal/tense character moments. Hopefully that's the case

@Kain
Thank you for the opportunity and warm welcome back. I'll do my best to keep up with you guys on the moderator team !

Oh, I definitely know the Kelly/Pablo stuff is coming and the Dalton/Kelly alliance won't be permanent, but the weirdness of Dalton dating a teenager and his mentor figure's daughter might be offputting. But we don't know how old he is yet.

That is indeed what I'm hoping for, but they're gonna have to get super original with the concept to keep people from hinting they're cribbing.

Welcome to the mod team! I'm usually availible pretty regularly for coordination purposes through DM.

I was thinking something along these lines, but much bigger and cooler looking if it has legs.

Maybe he is masquerading as a high schooler even though he is much older to get closer to her and thus Ash. Of course, I could be wrong... but he has that bad boy vibe. Although we did get one shot of Dalton that looks like he is in some sort of alternate world.

Welcome back. I think in season 1 she was coming off of doing the show Salem, and they weren't really sure what they wanted to do with Ruby as for season 2 there were a lot of problems. 3 she looks to be more fleshed out.

I'm enjoying seeing her dial the crazy up to 11.

Yes, looks way better than the teaser. I hope the giant monster and the presence of the military have a connection to the sink hole story line, which was mostly ignored during S2. Also thumps up for Tio's return.

That would actually be really interesting. I'm guessing that's him being in the not!Upside Down.

I think a lot of Ruby's characterization was hampered by her late entry to canon, true. I think I liked the idea of her more in season one and her intense focus on childbearing has sort of become offputting? She's a powerful otherworldly force who co-wrote a demonic text; she should be out for so much more, and her failure at ruling the world after the end of season 1/beginning of season 2 should've had so much more impact than it did. I hate that they pressed the reset button on her, though I like her when she's all cold and businesslike.

Good find, Joe! I wonder if they're going to have another panel at Payleyfest and/or try to tour it a bit more. It's too late to do anything for the TCAs, and the timing'd probably be off for that I'm guessing.

Oh and, since I missed this earlier Kevin!

I hope the Netflix viewership will help ratings for season 3

My guess is that it might be a decent bargaining chip. The problem with Netflix ratings is that they are very hard to gauge because Netflix rarely releases them. My best guess is that it's done decent, Galavant-style cult numbers (They did pretty well when they were introduced, well enough to get a full-series DVD release as a result). I'm iffy as to whether or not this would get them a spot on Netflix if the views there don't result in a perk for Starz' ratings because they've greenlit a lot of shows and don't hesitate to cancel them if they don't do huge numbers that match their budgets (IE: The Get Down and Sense8 were huge cultwise but weren't paying the bills, so they ended up getting axed).
