Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 General Discussion Thread

Minor bit I found interesting from the Facebook Q&A

The fact that he didn't shoot down the idea of Dalton being Ash's Great-Great-Great-Etc Grandson through Sheila.

That seemed more like a sarcastic response then a hint, the one where he usually goes "Yeah, sure. We'll go with that" kind of a response.

I figured as much but hey, I can dream!

When asked if they would consider moving to Netflix Bruce responded, "Maybe". He also stated the he would do this show for as many years as he could get (more then 5). I know a lot of people are not happy with the show but man I personally will be crushed when it's over.

Yeah, same here. I am often quite harsh on the show. But of course I would prefer to watch a improved version for many years instead of having them being cancled and the franchise dead on a quality low.

I... Don't hate it? If true (improbable), it would make Dalton less of a random presence, it would be a nice counterpoint to Brandy and could actually be interesting.

If true this could be a great twist indeed!

Yeah, I can relate. We're only harsh because we want the best product possible.

I figured this would be worth the post cause it has a bit of interesting in show dialogue mentioned before the interview and brief descriptions of upcoming scenes. *MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YA !*

I do not know anything about ratings. What would be acceptable?

Anything from a .200 to 500k viewers. To compare, American Gods draws something like 600k viewers live, and rounds up to over a million in the +5s and other watches during the week. It doesn't even need to rely on ratings from the ap.

AvED started out with 500k live viewers and, over the course of three seasons, has bled down to just over 100k. That's a huge drop-off over two seasons. It's fallen from the top 50 ratings-wise down into the mid 200s. It's also fallen behind The Girlfriend Experience as the least watched show on Starz, which between Outlander, Power, American Gods and their various miniseries probably doesn't need it or find it profitable. Unless the views it was getting on Netflix are stellar or the ratings the ap is pulling in are good, it's likely toast.

They couldn't have chosen a worse time to air the show. During big events like the Olympic closing ceremony, during the Oscars this week and generally during a sow tv watching time.

The fact that they promoted this as a better move is really ludicrous, but it was faltering in its holidays-smushed, winter timeslot. The show should've always been a summer show, IMO.

That's too bad about the poor ratings.

I'm actually enjoying this season much more than S2 so far, but I suppose the damage has been done. Besides, it wouldn't truly be Evil Dead if it suddenly became palatable to the masses, right?

So in true Evil Dead fashion, it’ll most likely find its audience in the afterlife.

But, who knows? Since we’re already in the era of revivals, we could one day see a re-revival of this in some form.

IMO season 2 is what slayed the beast. Ironically, they hemorrhaged viewers after the head up the butt sequence and those people never came back.

I'm gonna say the Marketing/PR they did for the two previous seasons is what killed it (Though i will say craig's showrunner / skills as a writer had a effect), wasn't just one episode from a certain season, they just didn't do enough or tried clever ways to market the show to a wider audience and we also have to factor in the lionsgate buy out having a effect on this as well.

At this point, i could care less about the ratings, i'm just gonna enjoy the ride for the rest of this season and enjoy it while it lasts. If it ends, it ends, nothing we can do to stop the on coming tide at this point. Starz/Lionsgate has already done that deed when they pushed them in with TWD and every other known big event happening through this season's run.

The only thing that saddens me is the fact we will only get 1 season with mark as showrunner, i kinda wish we got him when this show first started, so far his provided solid character development for everyone, expanded the lore and is turning old ash around as a character and his done this all within in just a half hour and were only two episodes in ! now why couldn't Craig do that ? Oh well, what's done is done, no going back now.

Guess i can look back at s1 and s2 as the build up seasons and look at s3 as the pay off season for the stuff craig laid out in the first two and enjoy the stuff mark is currently adding onto the foundation.

I'm not surprised & I agree with @MaidOfKandar: Season 2 didn't help AvED at all. It end with a hard blow. They just lost it over artistic difference so it turn into a big mess. People are not dumb, it was obvious something was wrong at mid season.

@Joem1k : Yes, the Marketing/PR was bad but it's not only the reasons. There's several factors. The showrunner was the wrong guy. Writers failed to provide a coherent story and consistency. Short running time of the show. They was unable to find their target audience. In fact, they still trying by shoot in every directions of any popular shows. It's seem they try to get all the fans from The Walking Dead, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Game of Throne and Strangers Thing.
(I read in a interview there should be a Underworld in S3).
If you want your show to have it own personality, just do your own thing and stop looking elsewhere. They really missed the opportunity to make a cult series.

They didn't work with the good peoples and team IMO.

Also, if you have total freedom to do whatever you want. It's not necessary a good idea to throw every shocking idea in the story. Sometime less is better.

Unfortunately the show is not crude as ED1, Not wicked as ED2 and not epic as AoD. Yes there's plenty of gore and crazy scenes, but the lack of seriousness turn most of them into goofiness. I'm not saying the show should have been dark and serious. I just think they failed to find the right humour for the series.

I still enjoy the series in a way but I'm more looking foward another movie.

Honestly, you wouldn't see that kinda shit with craig's run, plus stranger things has copied and burrowed a shit ton of stuff from various properties. And so has evil dead (necronomicon, three stooges gags, ETC ETC) so i don't really see how this is a bad thing, honestly. Let's wait and see the execution before we call crow on it just yet.

Yeah, well sorry to get harsh here and bring it back down to reality but bruce is 59 and is probably retiring the ash character after this season and sam's busy hollywood life is getting busier as the year's go by as he has multiple film projects already lined up. Let's face the music, it is probably very impossible/EXTREMELY unlikely for a movie to happen at this point now. In the creator's eyes, s3 was probably their last rodeo with this franchise, i don't think bruce, sam or rob we'll be looking to come back to this franchise in about 6 years or so to produce a film that has a extremely likely chance of flopping at the box office or let alone try and talk with a investor to make it happen when this show flopped/under performed. they would all three be laughed right out of the building. they also just spent 3 years busting their ass making 15 hours worth of evil dead related content, would they really wanna come back to do a film after all that work? I don't think so.

We've reached the end of the road with ash's story, sad but true.
