Evil Dead Burn | Official Thread

Teaser's finally up officially in HQ:

Yeah, I wanna take back most of what I said before... The leaked footage looked good, but the official version is too damn dark and lacking in contrast. I can barely see what's going on now. Why do they keep doing this to movies nowadays, specially with horror? That one shot is still fun, I just wish I could see it clearly. Remember when filmmakers wanted audiences to be able to see the cool shots they put in their films? Good times.

Anyway, the levitating deadite is very cool, but now that I've watched it again, I'm starting to wish they had a bit more personality in their movements. The levitating is great, but other than that, they're moving kinda like regular zombies and there's not much there to differentiate one from the other, know what I mean? I don't wanna criticize it too much from just a short snippet, but I hope that for the rest of the movie they'll show more personality, be more varied and feel, well, more alive – for lack of a better word.

This is the one thing I'm a bit worried about at this point. One of my biggest criticisms of the 2013 one was that aside from Mia, none of the Deadites had any personality. They were just zombies. And here they seem like a cross between zombies and The Hills Have Eyes people.

Still, it's just a teaser, so I remain optimistic.

Obviously I can't judge a whole film on a teaser scene but this teaser still just looks like a violent bar fight?. They're supposed to be 'evil' dead, they enjoy (so far) messing with people's heads first in the films. Maybe the aggressors in this teaser aren't deadites?.

I avoided watching the leaked trailer, and hot damn they must have decided that it wasn't enough to keep people going to see The Mummy.
Yeah, the Mummy has pretty much bombed from what I can tell. They tried very hard to sell it as "Look! Evil Dead Guy's Back! This movie is like Evil Dead" and it just didn't work. Shame because I like Lee's stuff.

Lee is finding himself in the same place as Fede in taking on a different well known franchise, and while they will both make money on Alien: Romulus and The Mummy at the box office the biggest takeaway for Lee is from those asking if Brendan Fraser was involved while for Fede the most publicity he got was for using an old mold of Ian Holm's head.

There a dude in the background floating.

I like the teaser as a teaser, but I really hope the Deadites aren't this grunty and screamy in the whole movie. I much prefer them as snarky assholes.
Focused more on what was going on in front since this is my first viewing, and I didn't even notice them floating/gliding/sliding on by. Ooops.

I watched it again paying more attention to the action in the background, trying to figure out just what the hell is going on, and even though is hard to be sure, I think there's only one deadite in the entire scene... Floaty guy is the only one possessed and he's beating on the same two people – a man and a woman – for the entire scene. Weirdest thing though is that at the end when the woman is helping the man get away, floaty guy stops floating and just starts walking after them like some regular angry dude.

Main Problem : Some one for pete sake bump up the brightness, i get you wanna go moody with how it's shot and the color palette, but we need to see what the hell is happening. this is not being atmospheric, it's just annoying as hell for the viewer.

With that out of the way. I really don't know what to think about this teaser, felt all over the place and confusing, i hope the context makes this sequence better but right now it just feels flat.

It's shot great and i like the subtle (?) reference to AvED S3 with the house and bowling pin.

But yeah, i don't know, just something feels off about this and i can't quite pin point what the hell that is, really indifferent about it.

Plus all of the descriptions and usual "MOST BLOODY, DISTURBING AND TERRIFYING ENTRY IN THE FRANCHISE YET!!" that came out of cinemacon makes me feel like i'm experiencing deja vu all over again with 2013 and Rise

I'm guessing it's part of a dream sequence?

I rewatched it again, this time on my big monitor at work, and I think you're right. There's only four characters. The main lady, the two struggling survivors, and one Deadite (plus at least one dead body).

And watching the scene through that lens, it feels almost like a Scooby-Doo routine? Where you have just a handful of characters entering and exiting the shot like the Scooby Doo gang running away from a monster, entering and exiting the same number of doors in a hallway. And if this was intentional, if Scooby Doo had similar influence on Sébastien Vaniček as The Three Stooges had on Sam Raimi and Scott Spiegel… then that would feel EXTREMPLY on brand for Evil Dead to me.

They still have time to crank up the colors, but I'm afraid they won't because that's how movies look like now for some reason. When they do it for the big superhero blockbusters, it's mainly because you can hide bad CGI better if the image has low contrast and low saturation, but I just don't understand why they do this with low to mid budget horror movies with very limited use of digital effects. Like last year's Weapons was great, but during the night scenes in that movie, I really didn't know what the fuck was going on.

I've watched the trailer a few times. I could be wrong but haven't been able to see a floating Deadite.
0:54-0:57. You can't really see his feet (maybe just for a couple of frames), but the movement is too fluid for him to be just walking.
