Evil Dead Burn | Official Thread

So overall lore wise (if there can even be such a thing), do Deadites care about the sun or not?

The whole lake house thing in Rise kinda went over my head in that regard, but here the ashy smokeyness from all that burny fire could be serving like a Mordor/Mount Doom thing of blotting out the sun so the Deadites can spread. Probably too granular an explanation.

Well they care about the Sun in Evil Dead II but the Pit Deadite didn't seem much bothered by it in Army of Darkness, so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

First post.

I wish I never saw Evil Dead Rise. It was the biggest waste of cinema going Money ive ever spent. I even bought Pop Corn and we all know how much that garbage is. But from the first shot all the way to the last I was completely Deflated.
The Fake Drone opening might aswell of been piss sprade in the die hard evil dead fan's faces.
So he is why Evil Dead Rise is DE-CANNONIZED for me...

• Deadites DONT go for long drives and pick up friends along the way
• The Evil itself CAN NOT be summoned by playing an audio Recording.
•Evil can only be summoned Only By Reading the passages out loud.
• HOW THE HELL IS THERE NOW 3 BOOKS??? (The other 2 Books in Army Of Darkness are NOT Necronomicon's)
• I shouldn't have to spend the better part of the film wondering if the boy is a girl or if the girl is the boy (thanks modern audience)
• Sun light Drives the Evil Away as explained by ASH in evil dead 2.
• The annoying , God awful characters including the " Cool" auntie trope because she has tattoos and wants to be a rock star (whatever).
• last but not least ... That design of the Book.

The whole film felt like I was watching An evil dead movie done in the way Disney would make it if it had the Rights.

I felt too embarrassed to look in my girlfriends eyes leaving that cinema . I promised her an horrific Movie. Instead I felt obliged to apologise over and over .

What im basically breaking down is ,
Im hearing alot of Rumours and talk That BURN a Connection to Evil Dead Rise . If this is rhe case then I definitely wont be making the same mistake again .
Ive seen both trailers now and I am entirely Disappointed or let down. It looks like a decent story . But now fans are connecting there own dots and uselly they are right and it does look like a continuation of RISE. I pray to god I am wrong as I am still a massive fan of the 2013 Evil Dead.

Im kinda tired of watching something and spending the whole experience wondering How it could of been done better.

Prolonged possession is something we've seen before. Cheryl didn't immediately turn in ED1, and neither did Mia in 2013.

There's not three Necronomicons, there's three volumes of Naturom Demonto. Totally different.

As it was brought up previously, the Pit Deadite in AOD had no problem when it climbed out to come after Ash. And Deadite Lem in Ash vs Evil Dead was running around in broad daylight (though we didn't see him).

I mean, she wasn't "cool". Part of her arc was that she was ignoring her sister in her time of need while out on the road as a guitar tech (not an actual rockstar).

Legal reasons. You'll never see a book with a face again because of Tom Sullivan's copyright.

Completely valid if you didn't like the movie! Though I must say that arguing what should and shouldn't be canon in Evil Dead really feels kinda redundant to me at this point. This whole franchise was made by Deadites to intentionally fuck with our perception of continuity and narrative consistency.

Is he not willing to "rent" the rights for the new movies or are the studios not willing to contact and pay him for them? Seems to me Tom would happily earn some extra bucks from this since he's going to Cons where he even sells Necronomicon merch (not to mention we got the Trick or Treat replica recently), but other than that I have no idea about his positions on this.
 
Yeah, that whole Tom Sullivan thing is bonkers. I've been wondering about that a lot lately and haven't really been able to grt clear answers.

I think it's more of an "out of respect" thing that they're not doing anymore faces on books or having similar artwork. It was necessary in Ash vs Evil Dead to maintain continuity, but even then it wasn't 1:1 copies of Tom's art.

I kinda feel like they would change the design regardless. The remake was very dark and gritty with the book wrapped in razor wire so if it had a face on it, maybe it would look a bit silly. And after that it kinda makes sense to me aesthetically that each movie would present their own spin on the book.

Not sure how I should now feel about my ToT Necronomicon now, though I guess "at least" they credit Tom on the last page.

Old school couple that owns a working camcorder/vhs along with a car that they have to drive is refreshing to see even though a newer car may have helped detect and avoid someone standing in the middle of the road, but if it was a Tesla it may have burst into flames for no reason... and that is a whole different kind of horror story.
