Isn't there a plot point in Lee Cronin's The Mummy that somebody needs to show somebody else a VHS tape, and luckily the other party still has a working VCR at home?

Yes. It's been so funny reading comments from Egyptian residents about that movie saying "Does Hollywood know we have modern things like digital cameras and tablets and laptops?" because all the technology in the movie seemingly stops around 2000.
I think what it is is that filmmakers try to replicate the past as it was when they were kids, not the way it really was 15 years ago or whatever.

Now the collectible popcorn buckets are getting ridiculous, and the Dune one got more publicity due to an uncanny resemblance to a sexual device... but for 20-40 bucks you get more bang for your buck.
So quick thoughts, positive, mixed and negative format
POSITIVES
- Yay! i can see things!
-The chaotic energy and grab you by your throat energy is here in full force in this trailer, i don't get a sense of any stoppage or breaks of levity from the chaos in this trailer which was sorely missing in Rise, here it looks balls to the wall on all fronts. Now that's evil dead in my book and i'm super happy this one looks like it's gonna be a super balls to the wall experience in the action department that was really lacking in Rise.
- No chainsaws! Switching over to a grass trimmer is a pretty interesting choice and i'm down to see how it's used in the film. Quite refreshing seeing that in the trailer.
- The grieving family story line could go over great, but that's all gonna hinge on the execution of the script. It's interesting the main theme of these new films so far has been about families or mother hood (Including 2013 on this one as well cause of David and Mia's story line). It's quite curious that was also the story line Ash was dealing with through out AvED as well. Food for thought on this point as to why this has been a lingering theme.
- The action, holy shit the action looks insane. After the pause and go pacing of Rise action, Burn looks to be correcting course on this aspect big time. Looks really damn good.
NEGATIVES
- While i am happy the camera work and chaotic/never breath energy is back, i am completely over the 2013 aesthetic, color palette and brutal tone, done with it. We had it in Rise, now this one. I really hope Wrath provides something different in the aesthetic/color palette department while still maintaining that brutal ED tone.
OBSERVATIONS (spoilers in this section)
Ok, color me crazy. But i think this is directly connecting with Rise because we've got the same pearl eyes from Rise and plus, that deadite that we saw at the start of Rise appears to be killing a fishermen effectively continuing that plot point from Rise in showing what happens to that deadite after killing all the people at that cabin. And i think that fishermen is the dad that gets possessed in the car and kick starts Evil Dead Burn's plot. I hope that means Beth is returning! Plus the "book" for this film has very direct 2013 imagery in it, starting to wonder if this isn't building up to something concretely connective and we might actually be heading towards some type of big event, maybe? I could be entirely wrong, but there's a lot of signs here from Rise and now this that seems to indicate they are working towards something, makes me wonder if that Bible that Sam and his brother Ivan were plotting out for this world is getting worked into these movies now. Plus another thing to point out, Studio Canal has the marketing rights for practically half the franchise now (except AOD). So it makes me wonder what's being built up to here through these various self contained stories we seem to be doing back to back now.
Just as i was finishing up writing this part of this post, i noticed this.
No wonder everything has felt like 2013 again, it's actually set in 2013's world, they are just continuing that visual language 2013 brought forth. That makes way more sense now.
FINAL THOUGHTS
After watching this trailer a few more times, i've warmed up too it, the main thing selling this movie to me is the story they've chosen, the balls to the wall action and the energy the camera work is providing. This may end up being better then Rise if it plays it's cards right in my book!
Prolonged possession is something we've seen before. Cheryl didn't immediately turn in ED1, and neither did Mia in 2013.
Except in the first movie where evil is summoned by playing an audio recording.
There's not three Necronomicons, there's three volumes of Naturom Demonto. Totally different.
As it was brought up previously, the Pit Deadite in AOD had no problem when it climbed out to come after Ash. And Deadite Lem in Ash vs Evil Dead was running around in broad daylight (though we didn't see him).
I mean, she wasn't "cool". Part of her arc was that she was ignoring her sister in her time of need while out on the road as a guitar tech (not an actual rockstar).
Legal reasons. You'll never see a book with a face again because of Tom Sullivan's copyright.
Cheryl's "prolonged" possession... really? So Cheryl didn't turn for 3 hours? Got in a car and went for a sunny drive? She turned the moment of trauma because the evil picked her out as the weakest and most vulnerable. Same as Mia , by the way how was ma's driving? Calm? No.
And as for your statement about " audio been able to summon Demons" NOT TRUE.
Go back and watch The Evil Dead 1981. Professor Knowby had ALREADY SAID THE WORDS before Ashley n the gang arrived . The evil was already present , Hence why it was able to mess with cheryl while she was drawing. Knowby had recorded the words he spoke . Playing the tape might excite the evil that is already there but wont have no effect if there not already summoned in the first place.
Evil Dead 2's beginning scene is not exactly cannon . Was only filmed for newbies who never saw the first movie.
So basically Knowby had already summoned the Evil before anyone came to the cabin.
There are NOT 3 Books. The other 2 was used as a decoy. So how come in Rise The blonde girly boy didn't get sucked into the book like Ash did and be left with a stretched face or why didn't it flap around like a bird ?
Extremely disappointed in Sam and Rob for basicly using "Fan Spin" as a way to expand the lore. The is only One Book of the Dead . The opening sequence explains this in EVIL DEAD 2. Even Annie had the missing pages . If there is 3 books then why didn't Ash just take back the flapping book ? All the same right ?.
No...
The Sun Light thing? Well that is studio interference wanting a less dark and grim ending to Evil Dead 2 and they gave the same shtick when making Army of Darkness .
Plus, its 1300AD . Its explained that The Evil is stronger and more powerful Before the "Chosen One" defeated it sending the evil away.
And the Auntie thing... ive not got much to say about anything relating to that cash grab of a movie.
Awful acting from all actors especially the child. But then again kids dont know how to lie so acting can be difficult to pull off. But knowing there was a kid in the film , I knew it would be used as plot armor.
And on an other note, the building was unfit for residents . The moment flooding would have started , they would of all been relocated or the landlord would be liable for prosecution. So story wise, absolute Bollocks (yes im British).
And lastly, GOOD FOR TOM SULLIVAN I wouldn't allow my art to be associated with these horrible instagram spin offs either. At least he is preserving his legacy unlike Sam Who just wants to keep milking a franchise til it is literally Dead On Its Feet.
Completely valid if you didn't like the movie! Though I must say that arguing what should and shouldn't be canon in Evil Dead really feels kinda redundant to me at this point. This whole franchise was made by Deadites to intentionally fuck with our perception of continuity and narrative consistency.
I suppose , at the end of the Day they are in the Money Making Business . Im starting to believe that Sam and the boys dont care anymore. Just as long as the money keeps rolling in.
I like Consistency... it helps me sleep.
Is he not willing to "rent" the rights for the new movies or are the studios not willing to contact and pay him for them? Seems to me Tom would happily earn some extra bucks from this since he's going to Cons where he even sells Necronomicon merch (not to mention we got the Trick or Treat replica recently), but other than that I have no idea about his positions on this.
It looks as though the younger lad has it hooked up to his digital camera. He maybe attempting to convert it to VHS for the older ones who struggle with tech. Could be wrong

I've walked out of a cinema apologising to a girlfriend but that was in the 80's and for different reasons.
I'm also from Britannialand, (Englandshire to be precise) where the Hobbits and The Beatles live in harmony just like the Americans imagine we all do. So, I think that's you, me and Rob, that's three limeys posting here?.

Do you mean the Palace Pictures distribution deal?. Fair point although I reckon Raimi and Co. would have found someone else to distribute eventually with Stephen King and Fangoria gushing about The Evil Dead. Raimi and Co. weren't known for taking rejection lightly. Palace were just in the right place at the right time.
We should have this conversation in a different thread before we piss people off.

Just in general . I think the Buzz for the Original movie in the UK was massive due to the Video Nasty labels at the time. The Palace Picture situation was apparently abit of a mess but you do have a point, I think the Stephen King endorsement helped the film more than anything else.
People want more of stuff, but not more of the SAME stuff (that's boring, pandering, fanservice) but not too much NEW stuff (that's too different, too modern, too liberal).
It's a really unwinnable situation trying to appeal to "fans." They think they're the reliable money, but the real money is in new eyes.
I do not envy film makers.
This is a casual observation about fandom in general, not intended to be in any way specific.
