Ash vs Evil Dead S03E01: Family Discussion [SPOILERS]

Welcome to the board @deaditer12345!

I think revealing Brandy to Ash, and killing Candace/Candy could've waited until at least Episode 2. A lot of that was rushed, and so were the character's reactions. I dunno.

Exactly how I felt!

was actually watching Burn Notice recently and it amazes me in how much better shape Bruce is now than he was 10 years ago. And he's almost 60!

I've got to hand it to Bruce; the guy's had a years-long regimen of rock climbing, hiking and bike riding behind him. Guy's got calves you could bouce a quarter off of.

We realize and understand everything just fine. The problem isn't that the character has changed over time, but that the changes don't fall in line with what came before and that the character has been turned into a one dimensional caricature. Ash's characterization has been a problem to a lot of us ever since the first season and I honestly don't see much difference in his portrayal now from who he was in season 1, before he had "won" (as you put it). He's been this stupid, unlikable and one note character ever since the very first episode and so far it only got worse. As a matter of fact, the show has been actively retconning or ignoring a lot of his history and development he had already gone through in order to make him even more one dimensional and even more of a caricature. But like I said before, there is a hint of something different here in his interactions with Brandy that I hope we'll see more of.

^^ Exactly, and I think calling her "Linda B" suits the situation just fine. Though for the millionth time I wish they hadn't denigrated Ash and OG Linda's relationship with the whole Linda naming convention in the first place.

it's repetitive. there's an evil book that allows demons to come into this world and ash and his friends have to kill them. been there, done that. come on, mix it up, change it up, let the story evolve.

I think the biggest problem I have with the series sometimes really is the lack of imagination. AOD broke out of the one-guy-fights-demons-in-a-cabin mold and showed us a whole universe. I shouldn't be unfavorably comparing the show with the comics, but God did Ash vs The Army Of Darkness do a better job at world building. We could have Ash exploring different universes and fighting evil there, but we don't quite have that.

Enough with the demon pregnancies already. Been there, done that.

ALSO THIS.

I'll add on that Far Far Away Site posted some behind the scenes shots from episode one that've been added to the gallery linked at the head of this post.

And in closing @Duke Henry the Red While I agree with a few of your statements, please see rule three, as you're coming off a tad bit aggressive here!

Yes! Hit the nail on the head right there.

Another thing I don't understand is the praise Bruce gets in the most reviews for his leading man qualities. I do not want to sound harsh. I am a big fan of his work and during the course of the show there were a few scenes and episodes in which he really showed his acting skills (like in the mental asylum episode or as Evil Ash). But beside that his performance mostly felt like a one-note thing. When Bubba Ho-Tep marks one of his best performances (my opninion), his latest Ash portayal only rarely reach this quality. Sometimes I think, Bruce is an actor, who needs guidance by a good director to really shine. When he alone is in full control he tends to silly over-acting (see MNIB) ...

I agree, runtime of the show is a big problem since day 1.

When I was talking about Candy's death. I was speaking of Ash being more human toward Brandy. I also agree, I rather see it end quickly instead of bringing another girlfriend story into the plot. It was a good thing and a good kill. I must admit.

Unfortunately Mark Verheiden didn't try to fix a single thing from the disastrous season 2 ending. This episode was more of the same. Maybe we will see the difference later, but I personally don't believe it.
Yep, the season 2 finale was such a disaster of plot holes and unanswered questions that I was hoping they'd think up some fixes and give them to us in season 3 opener. but....nope. says a lot about the integrity the writers have for the quality of the story line, and their regard for the viewers: none.

Yeah, even as a Campbell fan aside from those bits you picked up on (And some of the notes he hit in this episode) it's one-note. Even compared to the Ash we got in the films, IMO. Bruce is often better than he's given credit for - for proof of that I'll always suggest watching Running Time or his X-Files episode - but sometimes when he clearly doesn't care about the performance or if he's clashing with a director, you can tell.

We know that Ashley travelled across Michigan since early 1983 or so, and that's why Season 1 Ruby never "detected" him before 2015.
Plus, Season 1 Ruby took some time to understand WHO truly visited the Knowby Cabin in 1982, unleashing the Kandarian Demon a.k.a. The Evil Dead. She must have found out the civilian identities of Ash & co. a bit later, I guess, when rumours about "Ashy Slashy" started to emerge in Elk Grove.
So basically, where did Ash meet Candace Barr if he wasn't located in Elk Grove anymore? They conceived Branson "Brandy" Barr together in 1999.
My guess is that Candace was located (working?) elsewhere in Michigan too, and Ash just stumbled upon her "by accident".

The best guess I have is that Ash stopped in Branson, married her and left her there.

Waait, her full name is "Branson?"

Yes, it seems to me that Candace says "Branson" in the Delta. "Brandy" is a nick like "Ash" LOL

Brandy was conceived in 1999 (she's 18 in 2018) so Ash and Candace met in Michigan somewhere and then flew to Las Vegas.
