I'm actually ironically reading that one right now; All of the commentators comparing this one to bad fanfic absolutely puzzle me. Season 2 was a disorganized mess with brilliant to good spots and casting (the biggest problem was absolutely the wasted time on pointless characters - I defy anyone to explain to me what the point of Lacey and Chet's characters were, and why they thought papering over everything in the second episode after poorly reshooting it would work), and the characterization was irritating and the storytelling too episodic in the first season IMO. I feel like season 3 is still the best season we've had yet, that Ash feels more like the Ash that he should be, and that it has actual emotional weight.

The simple fact is the show's been leaking viewers since season two and ratings for season 1 were spotty. It was the poorly thought-out storytelling in season 2 that did it in.

(Also for heaven's sake, to everyone who keep saying that somehow the show is the 'most bootlegged show on television' and therefore people don't want to subscribe to Starz: here's a list of the most bootlegged shows of 2017. Here's a list of 2016's shows. And here, finally, is a list of 2015's shows. Do the math, especially after you look up how Starz' other shows do in the live fives. If American Gods can make it past 400k even as they shuffle around castmembers and creative talent, then there's no excuse for AvED not doing well).

Disregarding the negative comments about this specific episode and the ones saying that the first two seasons were more "epic", most of those comments actually echo a lot of the negative criticism we've had in here for the last couple of years. I really wouldn't be so quick to call this season "the best season" yet. So far I've enjoyed exactly two and a half episodes of it, and I've found that most of it was still plagued by a lot of the same problems the previous two seasons had. The show is still a mess. If the final three episodes don't sustain the quality from this week's episode, I'd say this season was pretty much on par with the first one in terms of quality. There were superficial, timid improvements here and there, but no major step up in quality. I feel that most of those negative comments are coming either from fatigue generated by the writing in the first two seasons or from the show becoming kinda stagnant and repetitive. So I agree with you that poor thought-out storytelling is the reason people started giving up on the show halfway through season two, but I'll add that's also probably the reason a lot of people are refusing to even give season 3 a chance. That's why I think the show's unsalvageable, even if the last few episodes show a greater jump in the quality of writing. Those viewers who already jumped ship (and also the ones who are currently doing it) aren't coming back.

See, what i don't get here about this conversation is we are blasting these people for "critiquing" the show in their own way on that site, yet on here everyone needs to treat everyone's else's opinion fairly and with respect, negative or postive.

Let's try and keep within our own rules and guidelines here alright, even if their opinions are out there or just plain wrong, it's still their own. Let's practice what we teach here alright?

Good point, Joe! Maybe we should move this to the general discussion thread?

Agreed. I edited my post to remove those two slightly more abrasive sentences.
