Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [MARK YOUR SPOILERS!]

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

@Maid worst. I can't say much about the backstory without spoilers. It's just not very well written.

The horrifying thing that happens in the second episode involves an old internet meme known as:

goatse

I won't say any more. You can use your imagination until the episode airs.

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Omg, I wouldn't advise looking up info on the above spoiler Kain posted about if you just had a nice meal. I remember back in the day when that damn thing was everywhere on the internet(s) long before Rickrolling became a big thing.

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

@Kain

The general impression that i'm getting at here is that the first ep 1 is great but the second episode seems to be getting mixed reviews on the writing and that one particular scene, i'm gonna wait and see for myself how they handled ash's backstory but from the general impressions i'm getting from some of the reviews they dropped the ball with it which is a bit disheartening to hear .

Hopefully the other writers they hired for the rest of the season can bring it back up and this is just a one off  for ep 2 :/ .

Now for my question.

what have been your general impressions of pablo's story arc  for the first two episodes because i've been hearing from some of the reviews it's been one of the highlights of this season so far, so how have you been taking to it so far ?

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Yeah, I'm just not a fan of the dudebro angle they decided to take with Ash's backstory considering that he was hardly a party animal in any of the Evil Dead films. Also the fact that everyone in his hometown hates him because he killed all his friends and sister, but never bothered to throw him in jail. Makes you wonder where and when Ash vs Evil Dead actually takes place.

Pablo's arc so far just has him seeing premonitions of what might be coming soon. They seemed to be more amplified when he's around Ruby.

I'm also terribly curious about what the big horrifying thing in the second episode is because everyone keeps talking about.

From what I can gather based on pictures and tips from the reviews...

Ash fights a deadite anus and gets his head shoved up a corpse's butt.

Yeah, if that's the kind of "crazy and outrageous" they're going for, it almost makes me wish Starz actually had tried to censorship them and reign them in a bit. We'll see how it plays out.

Ugh. So apparently they'll continue to screw up Ash's character.

That's awesome to hear, can't wait to see how his arc is gonna be played out for the rest of this season but it's really cool to hear that there bringing back the mind games with the book in general. Thanks for the info man !  :)

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

The negative reviews regarding the writing / Ash's backstory make me sad. I always liked ED1, ED2- and even AoD-Ash more than the show's Ashole. Season 2 could have been an excelent point to explain the character changes Ash went through in the movies and the series. But as it seems Bruce (and Sam?) still continue to "fix" the character. Awsome idea! Who else is famous for fixing beloved movie heroes? Yeah, Mr. Lucas. Was that very smart? Not that much ...

Ugh, that just confirms my fears that they're putting their best efforts into the premiers and finales and not giving a damn about what comes in the middle.

Between the info you've given me and what DyD pointed out below, my guess is that  (Cutting more for the eww-worthy implication than anything)

He gets sucked up an expanded rectum/colon, runs around with the body on him and is then forcibly ejected back out, complete with fecal matter

Which still doesn't give Waters a run for his money but it's a level of desperate poop humor we haven't encountered in canon yet.

So I'm guessing from evidence they're pretending that Ash was never a geeky, nerdy guy who played piano, fumbled Latin and bought his girlfriend ugly necklaces and we're supposed to believe he and Chet were wild n' wacky stoner types in high school?

*SIGHS* I'm so tired of Sam and Ivan and Bruce and Rob trying to retroactively make Ash's character make linear sense by rewriting the past part instead of, y'know, hinting that underneath the bravado he's still the same scared dork.  The point is that he was a contrast to Scotty.

It's weird that we have a video game that does a better job of taking the ending of TED and making hash out of it.  If there's enough proof to charge Ash with a crime he'd be in jail.   I'm willing to give them a tiny pass because maybe people believed that that's what happened after the cops let Ash go for lack of evidence, but still.

For me it's going to depend on the staging but it just...it almost feels like they're running out of fresh ideas, so they're borrowing from stuff.  Body part fights from the Re-Animator series, deadly cars from Christine.  This is the most original horror franchise in the world, making your second season a homage to various horror tropes feels too easy (which I think I've said before).  The difference between the raves they got for season one versus the mixed reception they're getting for this season says something.  What, I have no idea.

This is fun; I love the way Ted just gives himself over to silliness.

Better worded than my post, but yeah that totaly reflects my concerns with the direction that the show seems to take ... specially the contrast between Scotty and Ash. Just yesterday I rewatched the first act of ED1 and it is totaly obvious that the show's Ashole shares way more character traits with Scotty than with his younger self.

Exactly.  And it's a shame they didn't go somewhere psychologically complex with it, say he's acting like Scott as a coping mechanism.

I think I said it before that this would happen. Season 2 doesn't have the hype that season 1 had. Now that the excitement of seeing Bruce back as Ash after such a long time has somewhat diminished, people are looking at the show more critically. The hype-goggles are off and people are gonna judge it on its actual merits. They'll see it as it actually is. The audience/fan reception will be a lot more mixed and divisive this time around.

I think the lack of Sam being around will knock the critical prestige down a few pegs.   Bruce bragged about the writing getting better, ironically.

I loved the Pablo bit a lot; since when is the weapons den Kelly's domain, tho?  She's over the top paranoid in this.

(Also I find it hilarious they're doing an entire series of skits based around the writing room when Bruce is so openly scornful of the writers AND directly talked about improving to improve the season one scripts.  Lucy is, as always, wonderful.)

Another thing about the stoner stuff; you could argue it's canon that Ash can't hold his booze/weed through cut scenes but I suppose those aren't canon

Yeah, so far it feels like all Kelly wants to do is kill deadites and going out of her way to find opportunities to.

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

I get that it's part of her character but it feels like that's all she's about this season: "Must get revenge even though revenge has not worked out for anyone around me."

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

These videos are fun and all, but the marketing for this show has been baffling to me. Seriously, what does that stuff has got to do with Evil Dead? It wouldn't bother me much if these were just nice little extras, but it's basically all of their marketing for the show. These The Office parodies, those beer commercials and the whole Ash 4 President stuff... It's all just so random and none of it actually has anything to do with the actual show. It's always either some sort of parody of other stuff or an attempt to forcefully insert ED into unrelated stuff. What exactly is the audience they're marketing for? Do these videos actually do anything to get you excited about AvED? The marketing doesn't even make it clear what AvED actually is. I guess we can include the marketing team into the ever-growing list of people involved with the show who apparently have no clue what to do with the property. But hey, it's all "crazy" and "zany", so I guess it's good, right? *sigh*

RE: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Said it before and I'll say it again: AvED, we hardly knew ye.
