Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 General Discussion Thread

@DyD: What's interesting is that they've only released a single trailer for the season versus the two at minimum we should have by now. The first trailer we got was pretty poorly cut together, and you'd think they'd want to firm up ideas and sell it harder.

The initial push for the season had a definite idea (being centered around the evil mascot and high school regalia) but it seems like the final push leading up to episodes being released has forgotten about that with a nod to the Ash-has-a-tack-shop-slash-hardware-store-slash-sex toy shop part of the story, which isn't being labeled or defined correctly either. We're just over a month to the next season and it feels like they're not doing much in the way of promo at all. I'm sure that'll change in three weeks but it still feels like they're not doing as much as they should be.

It seem their main concern right now is the fact that Starz was dropped by Optimum.  This isn't good promotion at all.  I know they try hard to get back in the wagon but it still not the way to go.  Optimum will not take back Starz if the viewership is not there.  A petition is not viewership.  This is the only number that matter and could change something.  They will only drown further into the abyss with this kind of marketing.  Starz should check back the quality of their shows and marketing.  They surely have some good ones, but not enough to compete with other channels.

Season 3 is not appealing at all.  I agree they put so much effort the keep the mysteries....It's just too much. Are they trying to hide a mess?   I just feel the whole season 3 will be about the first image of the trailer.  They will try to erase that dick from the locker, but never get rid of it.

The thing with the Optimum situation is that it's purely contractually based to my knowledge, a negotiating tactic.  Was it even confirmed that the network was dropped for low viewership?  I'm pretty sure most of Starz' more popular programming, From Power to American Gods, does fine in that region.

Another promo video's up.  At least this part of the marketing is on-brand but I'm still ever so weary of the "ASH IS A TERRIBLE PERSON/DAD AND THAT'S FUNNY" angle they keep trying to go with.

“Yet Starz is asking for outrageous increases in programming costs and, given the limited viewership of Starz amongst our customer base and the different ways consumers can directly access Starz content, we are working to reach an agreement that is reasonable and reflects the best interests of all our customers.”

In resumé, Starz want more money but they can't bring more on the table because consumers can access directly to their contents.  Maybe it's a negociation tactics, but you don't drop a partner if they bring you a good profit.  Maybe "low viewership" was not the good term (sorry for my english), but they definitively don't bring enough compare to other channels.  Anyway, I'm not here to put Starz on trial.  I'm just concern about how much the whole "Keepstarz" thing will help the show after all.

Yep, I saw the new promo and it just...lame.  They really want to promote Ash as "The worst father ever".  Are they competing with Family Guy or The Simpson?  They're just shooting in every directions to grab someone.

We're really far from this  :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lM3NPeEG24

Now I'm just waiting their fake add for a Deadites eyes cleaner .  (Could make more sense than the toothbrush holder) :P

Ahah!  So they want more money and Optimum doesn't think it's worthwhile because they're not delivering viewers.  Makes sense.

They also replied directly to Bruce about this.

It's just weird because they keep delivering "Ash is a concerned dad" alongside "Ash is a terrible dad."  He can develop into the former from the latter but they should at least play into the development in trailers or hide the former from the audience to play up the arc.

Exactly!

About tweeter info on Groovybruce :

So, Starz was not dropped because of Optimum.  Starz refused the offer and this is the reason why the contract ended.  They are now playing the victim with the "keepstarz" thing to make Optimum looks like the vilain.  This is clearly a negociation tactic. But on the other hand,  Optimum mentionned it was a "fair price" but who knows?  Maybe it was not fair at all.   Anyway at this point, I just call pure political bullshit from both party.. They're just trying to manipulate the audience for their own benefit.  Let's move on...

About good vs bad dad : I guess Ash will be a terrible dad at the beginning of the season and turn into ta concerned dad at the end.  This will probably the main focus for Ash character on season 3 .  But yes, It's just weird and confusing the way they delivered it.

As I said earlier, they just shoot in every directions.  They put a little of anything randomly.  That's make no sense at all.  Hope they will come with a much more coherent trailer in the forthcoming weeks.

I still think Ash should have been a more neutral character.  No need to develop him so much and...so badly.  I think developing the mythology around him was much more important than the character itself. By developing the mythology, you're developing the character's knowledge.  This way the character become stronger and everyone learn more.  This Dad /daughter relationship still creeps me out in a bad way...

We got some new(ish) images, or I guess I should say we got new versions of the images from the poster with Ash's daughter conspicuously absent... but it looks like Lucy has found the fountain of youth.

The creators not giving a shit.

I'm just gonna post Pablo/Ray's because it made me crack up.  The dude continues to be a silver lining for this show I swear (and I agree that Lucy looks flawless, Nick!)

@Muzzlehatch and Doc:

I'd still say over over-focus on the humor side of the franchise in the wrong direction and a failure to get that Ash was a straight man and a parody of an action hero to whom horrible stuff happened while he took himself with deadly earnest seriousness versus a wisecracker (Army of Darkness was and is not My Name is Bruce, Bruce).

I think the images are a take off of the way people look in school pictures, and agree going full comedy/slapstick is not the best way to handle the series... but like 'em for what they are. Also I really hope we get some more to work with before February rolls around.

/Dalton appears to have a cgi cigarette while Kelly still don't give a f**k.

Not agree, comedy and slapsick is not the issue. If done wisely it could goes on.  But unfortunately it's not the case.   Going full retard is not the best way to handle the series. (Dick jokes, racist jokes, fart jokes, masturbing jokes, drinking pee and shit all over the place etc..)  This is the problem.

I think the school pictures said it all...Just look the eyes of Ash from the pic of ED2 VS the school picture.  It just sad.

@Nick - I need to know more about Dalton at this point; we know something about Brandy but Dalton's this big question mark.

Maybe in season 4 we will get a bearded more bad ass version of Ash, and everyone in Evil Dead Land will be happy once again.

I think Collider was the only group to post anything about who Dalton aside from the synopsis of season 3 on the site as well as on the wikipedia page which says...

Dalton, leader of an ancient order called the Knights of Sumeria, who seek Ash to lead their fight against The Dark Ones.

He grew a hiatus beard this time!  I'm used to him getting a hiatus jar haircut

RE Dalton

I remember them revealing that, and also revealing that Kelly's been working with him.  I think it was implied that the two of them were together and Dalton's a semi-spoiler for whatever's happening with the Kelly/Pablo romance?

Bruce looks good with a beard.

If I remember correctly the article(s) that have been written (they all say the same thing) made it sound like Kelly is off doing her own thing, and possibly Dalton before witnessing something go down that had Ruby's finger prints all over it. She goes to tell Ash and Pablo about it along with Dalton which kicks off the whole deal in season 3 with Ash. It seems like in the past we had so much info going in that it took a lot of fun out of it, but the build up this year has been way different... and I think that is another positive from the new showrunner as opposed to the way Craig and company ran things.

The optimum situation has moved to the legal injunction phase, for those still following that mess.

@Nick

He does!

I wish we had some notes as to what his personality is going to be like!  Brandy you have kind of a feel for thanks to the trailer.  So I sense that the conflict is going to be about how team Ash doesn't play well with the pro Sumarian group (Which is a weird way to put it but seems to be what they're going for), which I think was also basically said in the pre-season publicity.

The promo pic for Kelly is kind of sad, because it actually pretty much sums up her whole character. If you look at that photo, that's Kelly. Nothing else. No nuance, no story-arc, nothing. This is as one dimensional of a character as you can get, but for some reason she is being treated as this badass empowered female protagonist? I mean… really?

All promo photos for this seasons are kind of sad IMO.

Totally one dimensional.  I still have hope they will bring something more this season...but it's more hopeless hope.

It's way too much caricatural.
