It's only a half hour. I really enjoyed it until the ending. They seemed to promise so many times that they'd end it with closure and it's just a set up for season 4 that will never happen so we just have no clue what to take. I hate it. Sucks. Got emotional during this ep too!
 
Sounds like a evil dead ending to me! One chapter closes and the book is left open ajar ever so slightly.

Gosh damn it. This is an Ash that audiences could have connected to and found the franchise some more mainstream appeal.

Too little, too fucking late. It's especially disheartening because Bruce is really subtle here. Very honest. Hell, this moment kind of ties everything together. It's a bummer that (from what I hear) the finale doesn't really finish his story off. I always had a vision of Ash sacrificing himself and being reunited in the afterlife with Linda, Shelly and the others all there to greet him, telling him that it was time to come home, or some such thing. Perhaps dramatized as the group finally getting to leave the cabin into the light; as if to say that the long, personal nightmare was finally over.

Damn it all.

I'm 100 percent a realist about Bruce saying "no Ash ever", because he said it for years and years before AvED and literally at the beginning of the season was like "I'm in it for the ride as long as Starz wants me". His last three pilots failed and his last indy production hasn't "gotten out" in his words. My prediction is he'll do an indy feature or two and then be back out there for the 2020 pilot season.

I personally always saw Ash as kind of like Francesco in the first half of Cemetery Man. He's the one who is cursed with killing the dead again after they're buried and that's his life and it's normal for him, but it is definitely a curse on his life. Ash is sort of that way too, he has these horrible demons to kill and he's great at it. His curse is that everyone around him dies because his will to survive is just that powerful, but he is unable to save other people.

No offense to Bruce, but other than Burn Notice, his appearances have been iffy since Bubba Ho-tep. My Name is Bruce was a bit of a dumpster fire, even if it did have a few fun moments. Much like Ash himself, Bruce is cursed with this role. He's likely not going to be picking up many big leading roles any time soon, other than Ash. Maybe that's why he's a bit upset at the moment, it seems like his biggest career role just got ripped out from under him.

Heh--what hooked me into the franchise was the tragedy of what happened to Ash and how much of a great hero he (ultimately) was--at least in the films. Movie Ash is one of my favorite cinematic heroes and I feel that if you're gonna end him, he deserves some kindness in the end. The guy was dealt a shit hand, and started out as this really tender guy who was rammed through a meat grinder and forced to toughen up. I think his final cinematic moment should rightfully be as somber/tragic/moving as his story has always been.

But then again, I see the character very differently than Raimi and Campbell do, apparently.
 
I mean, if you want a more badass ending, I thought a great way to end one of the seasons would have been for Ash to be killed and sent to hell--or some kind of Deadite dimension--and we pan out to see he's surrounded by nothing but Deadites. He's the only living thing in this entire world.

Ash revs his chainsaw, cocks the shotgun and says something cool like "Let's go." The Deadites shriek and rush him as the opening riff of Derek and the Dominoes' "Layla" plays us out to a slow-mo shot of Ash slashing and shooting--probably for eternity.

I had a million ideas for the show that would have been better. But that's only my opinion, haha

I'm actually 100 percent here for an ending like that if we had an Ash Dies ending. Ash goes to Florida!Heaven, meets Annie, Sheila, Linda, his sister, Chet and his father there. Last shot would be him sitting alone on a dock, watching an impossibly bright sunset. And Earth is safe because the Evil's quelled. Pablo and Kelly are together and pressed into service to raise Brandy; they go home and take care of the hardware store, and the last shot we get of them is cleaning up the bloody living room of the Williams house. I know it's sentimental! But one of the series' worst failings for me is the lack of closure with the real Linda (I don't think what happened in season 1 was satisfying that way) and Annie. (I will insert an evergreen complaint about not using Sheila but I know that's a Universal Rights Issue. I'm actually expecting them to try to reboot AOD without Bruce/Sam/Rob's permission down the line at this point since they keep licensing the property out from under them).

Sidenote: I'm still waiting for episode 9's ratings to come out; looks like Starz marked it as a repeat again. @Kevin have you had any luck with your sources?

Now we're talking! Still not sure about that choice of music there. Replace "Layla" with Black Sabbath's "Never Say Die", "Children of the Grave" or "Sabbra Cadabra" and that's actually perfect. Or even Deep Purple's "Burn", "Fireball, "Pictures of Home" or "Highway Star" just to stick with the idea introduced on the show of the band being Ash's favorite. ;)

No such luck. I usually get the numbers from spoilertv.com but Ash's numbers are the only ones missing from Sunday's listing.

As much as I personally loved this show and thought season three has been fantastic, this show really had no hope for success. I may not be happy with what happened but Starz made a logical business decision here and I can't hate them for that. The ratings were bad and this show had to be fairly expensive to produce all things considered. This will be my most missed show ever for me but it is what it is and I think I just need to move on from that. Maybe we can get another Evil Dead movie someday with Mia or something. You never know but I won't stand by waiting and waiting for news. In my mind, I am doing to best to lay this franchise to rest just as Bruce Campbell has done.

The problem with it inherently is Starz wanted immediate success and payoff, where Evil Dead is a cult franchise and in all fairness they did know that going in. It’s a long term investment, because it will still make them money for years to come. I just find it a bit irritating they waited until one week before the season was ending. The ratings weren’t even good for season 2, they knew they weren’t going to magically triple their numbers at the end of season 3. I’ll tell you what though, they will really find out how many dedicated fans there were this week, by how many cancellations they will have. I’m canceling tonight after I watch it a few times.

I can already smell the disagreements from some of the stuff mentioned in this article but i would like to point out that there is a fanbase out there for mia,kelly, pablo and i'm willing to bet after this finale airs, a fan base will spawn for brandy.

Either way, it's nice to hear some of the cast being optimistic about the future.

Interesting interview. As I already said, I'm not really interested in a Ghostbeater spin off. I know they could continue in the time line which Ash is gone and Evil come back for whichever reason. Anyway I'm more interested to see a continuation from the final.
