RE: Evil Dead Television Series

You are on it, man... and I like the new art, poster, or whatever they are calling it. Plus there is this one too.

Yikes at all of the obvious 'shopping going on here.  It doesn't even look like Dana, Ray and Bruce were photographed together.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

Totally, too much shopping going on.

Yes. The photoshop isn't very good, but unfortunately, that's the case for most movies and TV posters today... But if you look behind that, I think the idea and the whole take on the poster is awesome.

I'd like to do that, but Ash looks like a cardboard cutout thanks to the shadows they put on him :p

I like the colors, Pablo's picture made me laugh and it sort of captures the theme they're going for, but it kinda looks distractingly artificial to me.  The facebook banner's slightly better i in that regard.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I edited my comment, and didn't bother to refresh so was no competition for Hurley here who has a black belt in Google-fu.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I was wandering recently why movie posters look like this today. Like if studios are just employing people that can't do better, or if it's cool for some reason. Like today's kids dig it because it looks like video game posters or something. Because even if you look at the main poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron or some other really expensive movie that spent hundreds of millions of dollars just for marketing, it still looks like shit... :(

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

Poster are not the most important thing in the world, and when it comes to AvED they are going for the extra campy factor... and at least it isn't like most movie posters in which any women are posed seductively. You know, like Kelly standing there next to the car facing backwards for no reason.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

@Nick, I'm kind of impressed they aren't sexualizing Kelly.  We've gone from posters with hands choking nightgown-clad women to this, it's kinda nice.

But yeah, the only thing actually wrong with the poster is the perspective, which is all askew thanks to the shadows.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

It's not that the poster is bad. For me, it's exactly what I would imagine for this show... just without the one extra layer of plastic. That's all.

About the sexualizing thing. I have a feeling that this show will be more feminist that we would expect. Ash vs Evil Dead has five main characters: two of them are men and three of them are women. I think that's not very usual for this type of show... though it's hard to describe what "this type of show" actually is. :)

My point is that I can imagine that this approach could work. Something like with Batman and Robin in the 1940s, when the new female characters were introduced (Catwoman, Batwoman, ...) and the Dynamic duo didn't know what to make of them. Imagine Ash and Pablo being a minority against the group of three women that would be constantly cleaning up their mess and dealing with their "manliness". Has anyone else thought of this approach? That the show could try this? I think it would be kinda refreshing. For Ash and for TV shows in general.

There are a few lines from Ash here and there like in the trailer "You're kinda of like a young me. The Deadites ruined you life, and you're hot as hell." Other than that she is being treated as an equal... and not the forced set up for a love triangle. It is refreshing unlike that one trilogy shot in New Zealand not that long ago, haha.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

@Hurley - you completely hit the nail on the head.  For me it's the shadow  (all the light is coming from directly behind and in front of Ash, why is he casting a shadow that goes behind him?) and the obvious layer of overshopping they put on the images. Everyone looks a little robotic, like they're not real people.  It's cute, the colors are amazing and it captures the show's spirit but also looks really artificial, like Baby's Third Photoshop project.  It's another example of "I want to like it, but..."

That's something I noted too, RE the cast's gender disparity!  I'm going to have to see how they treat Amanda, Ruby and Kelly before I make any real judgements.  I have some Worries after what Lucy has said and the way Bruce and Sam have described them.   At this point I just want Ash and Kelly's mentorship to go father/daughter with minimal flirting and him actually respecting her, and Amanda and Ruby's relationship to be decent without icky under and overtones.  And for the Pablo minefield to not be a minefield.

@Nick - yeah, I had a problem with that line.  It was another moment of Ash feeling too much like Bruce.  I like how she deals with his flirting by ignoring it or rolling her eyes at it.  I know they don't want to get 'too serious with the character dynamics' in Bruce's words but there seems to be wiggle room for development.

I am picky because I love this franchise too much, and I know it :p

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I think Ash will hit on Kelly at least in the first episode (mainly for comic relief), but after she proves herself against the dedites, he will start to respect her. So during the first season, the only love interest would be just around Kelly and Pablo. Or at least I hope so...

The other possibility is that Ash knows Pablo likes Kelly (they are co-workers, so it would make sense) and he would hit on her just to show Pablo "how it's done". But now I'm just over-speculating. :)

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

@Hurley, I think you're right.  I wouldn't be shocked to see Ash end up with a couple of Girlfriends of the season or of the week, especially if we lose some main characters in the first season.

That would be especially hilarious if Pablo decides that Ash's flirting doesn't work, and whatever he does is more gentlemanly.

I think that line is pure unadulterated Ash, and by not putting up with Ash being Ash Kelly will do her best to keep him on task... and I hope they make her a total badass on the show along with him. I read somewhere that Rob Tapert said Ruby was like The Smoking Man from the X-Files which I had never read before, or don't recall with so much info coming out.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

@Nick - IDK, I still feel like the way they've made Ash more chatty/glib is a nod to Bruce being Bruce versus anything that feels more Ashlike?  IDK.  I'm still not used to him not being more stoic.

That actually makes sense RE Ruby.  I think she'll be less mysterious than simply closed off?  IDK.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I am so disappointed really. They couldn't draw inspiration from the trilogy posters to not have to horribly photoshop it up? At least the trailer is great.
