Yes, this looks real. A few points, this release originally came in a 'glassbox', which is a clear plastic case much like the tight fitting open-at-one-end cardboard cases you'd get on home record VHS tapes, that's why the white cover looks too small for the case it's being sold in, someone has swapped it over with a normal retail VHS case at some point. It's much rarer to find it in it's original case. This is much the same situation with a good few Japanese VHS releases. The other thing is that I've seen a good few of these and they all have some degree of colour fading on the cover, I'm not 100% why, but you'll not find a cover with vibrant colours, they're all like that.

Wow thanks for pointing that out, I didn't really notice the cover was smaller than the case, I thought that's the way the cover was with the black edges, well that kinda ruins it for me, it's still really cool but I would prefer to have everything original, might still bid for it though, as I've been looking for a Japanese version of The Evil Dead.

Another example of this sort of thing  :eyeroll ..

Here's an auction for the entire Palisades set for a very heft price. My goodness!

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Palisades-Army-of-Darkness-loose-action-figure-set-/111048374695?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item19daffb9a7&_uhb=1#ht_642wt_1271

What I love about the auction though is that it has limited numbers for some of the figures. Didn't know that! Wonder if they are right or not. Anyone here know?

The santa hat on the holiday Ash makes it the most awesome thing ever seen... I wonder how much they want for that one alone?!?

They are 100% correct about the limited numbers Elise

That's interesting to know since I have all these figures myself. I knew that they were rare, but I didn't know it was THAT rare. Thank you!

The highest asking price I saw one for was $120 just after it came out but the collecting scene was more vibrant then due to exposure of the franchise through the computer games. They were made as a Christmas gift to the staff at Pallisades so never put on the market. They were produced sometime in the early to mid 90's (Elise? Sean?). I saw one offered up at $80 then a few months back one that was a steal but nobody bid on it .. maybe you could contact the seller if they still have it:

The Palisades Army of Darkness figures came out around 2005. The photos don't lie, these figures are intricately detailed, and have incredibly complex paint application for their size. The only downside was that they were somewhat fragile and prone to breaking.

The limited numbers from that auction are indeed correct. The production run was small, and even smaller when it came to Series II. The Series II chase figures are a pretty rare find these days. For example: Only around 180 S-Mart Ash's were produced, I have one, and Names_Ash_Housewares probably has one as well. So, that only leaves 178 left in the world!

My collection is missing only 1 or 2 variants I believe, but I was lucky enough to nab a Holiday Ash. The figure was meant as a thank-you gift for Palisades staff, friends, and retailers. I paid $12 for mine at the time of release.

Here's a Holiday Ash for $34.95: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003IQ2MF4/ref=asc_df_B003IQ2MF42467291?tag=thefind0152004-20&creative=395261&creativeASIN=B003IQ2MF4&linkCode=asn

And I also have one as well as my friend Dennis. ;) That makes it 176! Holiday Ash nowadays is not expensive at all. I paid around $20-25 for mine and it came with the box. I've still spotted people selling those at around that price. I paid around $25-30 for the tin too. Didn't know there was 500 of those. It's really the series 2 figures that cost a lot. My entire series 1 collection is never opened and I paid around $150 for all 8 packs. I mean I always knew about the ratios for series 2 but not the limited numbers.

Ironically I got King's Knight Infantry for a whooping $15. When I bought it, I thought it was King's Bodyguard but I got a huge surprise in the mail instead. You should have seen my face!
