Evil Dead Burn | Official Thread

NEW 'BURN' UPDATE: MORE CAST ANNOUCEMENTS AND PRODUCER/DISTRIBUTOR UPDATE:
>Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, and Tandi Wright are set to star opposite Souheila Yacoub.
>Sony Pictures will co-finance the film alongside New Line Cinema, and will handle the film's international distribution (with Warner/New Line still handling US distribution and StudioCanal still handling UK and France distribution).

Sony getting back in the world of Evil Dead was not on my bingo card...
They already did with the game (Mia & David) and gave licensing rights to Studio Canal, but still own 2013's film/characters... so hopefully that means we'll see Mia appear in this.

Not exactly. The big revelation in that deal was that Renaissance Pictures actually owned 2013's merchandising rights (just like how they owned the merch rights for Rise, not New Line).

Reading that news/press release, that appears to be the case that Renaissance Pictures had the licensing rights for The Evil Dead (obviously), Evil Dead (2013), Ash Vs Evil Dead, and Evil Dead Rise. But I wonder if that's truly the case, if that was part of the deal when they (Renaissance Pictures) collaborated with those companies (Sony for 2013, Starz for Ash Vs Evil Dead, Warner Bros. for Evil Dead Rise). I would have assumed each of those companies had the licensing rights for their respective owned 'Evil Dead' entity/entry. They certainly get a piece of the money-pie, but I'd be shocked that they weren't in charge (licensing-wise) of their respective piece of the 'Evil Dead' quilt.

Just like how MGM owns licensing for Army Of Darkness and I would assume Renaissance Pictures gets a monetary cut of that because they own the character of Ash.

That's just it: they don't. No single entity owns Ash. All the studios that own their respective film own that specific iteration. Bruce notoriously doesn't get paid for his likeness when it comes to AOD merch, but he still has to approve it.

Straight from Sébastien himself. Wish I knew French to decipher those notes...

People are now speculating that "Alvar" is probably Fede Álvarez, which makes the sudden Sony partnership all the more interesting...

Filming for another Evil Dead movie is about to commence, and 500 bucks is a good chunk of change... but combine that with the most recent advert for New Zealand being the best place in the world to have herpes and I'm ready to move.

Would that make it the first Evil Dead movie to have extras since Army of Darkness? And those would be the only two in the whole series?
1: Yes. 2: No. There were extras in the airport scene in ED2. *EDIT: and all the knights at the end of ED2.

Looks like they're re-using the Evil Dead Rise logo.

Excited to see how it goes over the next year, but they are indeed using the same logo as Rise. Sébastien Vaniček posted the same pics with the comment "DAY 1 FROM 93 TO NZ" making me wonder if that is in relation to when Army of Darkness was released (US,) or something else since there is little to no biographical info about him on IMDB, etc...

It begins!

Now we get to see if it gets soaked through by the end with prop blood, heh.

Good luck to the cast, crew and director.

These evil dead production shoots are always brutal and unforgiving to everyone involved. God speed to them and here's hoping they make a kick ass flick for us to enjoy!

While not really earth-shattering news, I thought this was interesting:
TRISH WILSON: The next movie in the Evil Dead universe is Evil Dead Burn, set to release summer of 2026. As executive producer, how much involvement and say do you have in this film?

BRUCE CAMPBELL: I was very involved in 2013 and Evil Dead Rise. Currently, I’m on a multi-year odyssey to complete and sell my next flick Ernie & Emma around the world, so I won’t be as involved in the next two that come down the pike.
