Evil Dead Burn | Official Thread

It's the best way to approach entertainment these days. So many people on the Internet love to overhype things only to get disappointed.
Evil Dead Rise was a pretty Low point personally. Im a massive Terminator fan and Ive had to watch what happened to that franchise , worried that Our Beloved Evil Dead is heading the same way. Pumping out Film after film just to keep that money flowing in. I hope im wrong and hope BURN is a fantastic Stand Alone Horror.

I've just stumbled across one of those lists of horror films to look forward to this year on MSN. Whoever wrote it has explained this dynamic to the story:
'A widow seeking comfort with her in-laws discovers that certain vows are never truly broken.' That they're her in-laws is news to me

I haven't logged in here in a long time. I just want to say I hate the direction of the new "Evil Dead" movies. I hate the remake and the way its rewritten Evil Dead to be some shock torture "mean" (their favorite word) Shudder original franchise. All of us who grew up and grew older with Evil Dead know what it was about. Sure the horror, even some "mean"-ness, could be part of it, but it was contrasted with Sam Raimi's batshit directing with 3 stooges influence, Bruce's bravado, a sense of isolation in a small cabin in the woods, etc. And then sure, some carnage. These moves just don't have it. They are not Evil Dead and I don't care what names are listed as producers.

As far as I'm concerned the filmmakers of these movies can pound sand. Not my Evil Dead!

As I said before, maybe in this very thread, I think that the magic of Evil Dead is in its creative freedom. That when you watch any of the three original movies, you never know what will happen in the next 10 seconds. And even though I didn't like the remake very much, I understood why they made it the way they did. They were trying to recapture the buzz around the original movie, not the whole franchise. So they hired a young director and marketed it as "the most horrifying movie you've ever seen".

The problem is that apparently the formula worked so well that the new series of movies seems to not want to evolve beyond it. Both Rise and Burn (seem to) use the same tone, the same Deadites, and the same marketing of "you will shit your pants", which goes directly against the creative freedom charm of the original trilogy. I still really liked Rise because of its themes and some creative visuals and I'm still looking forward to Burn (and Wrath), but the more I think about it, the more I'm worried that the new Evil Dead will be stuck in this mold forever.

I've only watched RISE once when it was released at the cinema. Other than 'Mommy's with the maggots now', I can't remember much about it which isn't ever a good sign. The little girl with the doll head on the stick didn't make any sense to me then or now other than she was supposed to be the most vulnerable one. I took to calling her 'Newt' after that little girl in ALIENS.

They sure love using poorly lit scenes for marketing material.

I may diss the remake but at least Fede knows how to light shit.

Fede made a fantastic remake as far as Directing. He had 2 other guys write the script and they also did a great job . This new film " Burn" looks like the "Alien Romulus" of evil dead films. Throwing all the bad ideas from all the other films and see what sticks.
There mistake is already assuming that We All Loved Evil Dead Rise, when the truth is most Evil Dead fans agree it was very much of low standards. Connecting the two films is going to turn alot of people away. Hense why its gone quiet since the trailer dropped.
But yeah ur right. I Cant see shit in the teaser.

EVIL DEAD BURN is the cover feature of Starburst Magazine #494 (cover date of September, 2026). I will scrounge up a copy as soon as it's on the streets and relay anything interesting it says. Also, they used a fan-made logo for "Evil Dead Burn" (which you can tell because the "Burn" is in the wrong font), so hopefully they fix that before it goes to print!

They totally grabbed that logo from Deviant Art via Google images!

Yup. Took me two seconds to find with a quick "Evil Dead Burn logo PNG" search! Looks like they tried to cover it with some kind of filter, but you can really match it up with the marks on the "R" in BURN.

Except Sam had to tell him no on the ending that was planned, and Fede only had one writer and Diablo Cody (a woman who got a lot of negativity directed toward her) helped by adding a little more dimension... but we didn't know what was changed until Fede himself put out bits and pieces of the original script including the ending for subsequent anniversaries and they were horrendously bad. It along with the arguments that followed played a big part in Fede making a WWF/E style heel turn that he never quite recovered from.

Starburst is easy to find in most UK towns, it's not a patch on Fangoria Magazine though. I can't remember Starburst ever having an exclusive on anything in the decades it's been around and most serious genre fans don't bother with it to be honest because it still looks and reads like a fanzine. The other most commonly available is Darkside Magazine that's also been around for decades and is slightly better although you have to have a thing for old English horror films like Hammer Studios films to make it worth buying.

Starburst #494 is on the shelves of my local shop today. It's priced at £7.99 (ouch) and has 5 or 6 pages of Evil Dead Burn, all in large print and about 50% of the pages consist of pics from the movie that we've all already seen. No exclusive news or images.

There's more pages in the magazine than it used to have which probably explains the expensive price. I might have bought a copy if it was £4.99 just because it's something Evil Dead.
