Evil Dead: The Game

Here's another gameplay video!

Just gonna give my brief thoughts on the 2nd beta so far.

Still fun as hell to play, though there is some balancing issues with one of the demons, mostly eligos. They are stun lock city at high levels that it's quite overbearing but overall still having a blast and they really make you work for that win on the survivors team when the right demon player is on the playing field, get's quite intense!

I have watched a lot of the videos, and caught most of Andy Campbell's stream on Twitch which I enjoyed immensely. So when the game hits the shelves on May 13th I will be going to the local game store to pick it up. We are less than three weeks away.

Ok, having gotten 3 days of play in on it with this 2nd beta. Holy hell is this game amazing, probably the best evil dead game to come out thus far, they've really nailed everything about how this franchise works and operates to a tee and i can't say that enough.

There's so much nuance and in-depth meta plays at work in this game for both the survivors and demon it's insane how much variety there is in the gameplay loop, every match feels very different in how it plays out, this games gonna have some strong legs longevity wise as long as Saber keeps up the support for it and keeps the content rolling in, it has the potential be a stand out in the genre it's playing in and it's being received very positively from everyone whose played it thus far, fingers crossed!

I will say though, i highly recommend getting a good party of friends together cause this game relies on very good team coordination to get the job done on the survivor side cause they really make you work for that victory. Playing with randoms works at times cause there's really no room for error on the survivors side to be clowning around or for a troll trying to screw someone over cause the game really punishes those who do that, so playing with randoms is fine as long as you can get a coordination/dialog going on with them, though playing with a group of friends is way more fun.

Eligos is gonna need some serious tweaking balance wise cause they have a stun lock spam move they can do that can down you very easily. But i figured out a strat from another player i ran into that works very well against eligos, you have to have one person keeping eligos attention and having them running away from them and dodging their attacks while the other teammates come in with long range weapon fire from behind, it smokes eligos quite easily with this tactic.

Overall, i can't wait to see what the final release is gonna bring, cause i know i'm gonna be playing this game constantly when it drops.

Here's more information on the lore for the game and they confirm you can unlock characters/audio logs and skins in the single player missions as well.

Saber developers Tim Willits and Craig Sherman explained how the single-player missions will work, and what they’ll allow you to unlock. They explain,

“You can play the game by yourself in two different ways. The first is the main core game loop, which is four survivors versus the demon. You can play that by yourself. You can jump in as a survivor, the computer takes care of your buddies, and then play against the computer as the demon. If you want to just experience more of the world, we have these side missions. We only have a handful. It’s not a single-player campaign, it’s not like that. But it is single-player missions that allow you to dive deeper into the lore.”

“When you complete those, you unlock some characters and some skins. And you get access to… something that we call the Knowby Recordings,” the duo continues.

“Professor Knowby is a very important character in the franchise because he… found the Necronomicon and he brought it back to the cabin to translate. So as in the movies, he records himself doing these things. So we thought, what a great way to continue the story. You will be rewarded when you do these missions with a Knowby Recording… and there are lots of them. If you listen to it… in some cases it’s Professor Knowby talking on his own. One of them is with Annie, his daughter. She’s explaining sort of what’s going on. We were able to fit these recordings, I think as a fan, in a really cool way so that you’ll recognize some dialogue in them from the films. And it keeps going… and a little bit more of the scene [you hear] was NOT in the movie… but this is kind of like we’re saying, ‘This is what happened after the scene. Or right before.’ These Knowby Recordings, we’ve used them as a way to bring the game into the Evil Dead Universe.”

They add, “The story goes that Professor Knowby accidentally summons the demon… Henrietta, his wife, is possessed. And he’s recording this. And what he does is he looks at the Necronomicon and he sees Ash… he sees the Hero from the Sky. So he tries all these incantations to try and summon Ash, and he ends up getting all these other characters who are friends of Ash. Who have fought alongside Ash in all these different stories. And they’re showing up in the cabin. And they go off and help to fight the demons. So this is how we explain why we have characters from three movies and a TV show [in the game].”

So essentially Knowby pulled a Spider-Man NWH and brought all the characters together to fight evil. Man it's awesome to see Professer Knowby playing a huge key part in a evil dead story again, really digging what they are doing with his character for this game and bringing him to the fore front of the action.

I literally just read this article and came here to see if anyone had commented on it yet.

I love that we are getting additional lore. I'm currently doing a personal project where I am attempting to chronicle as much of the Evil Dead lore as possible, and I'm eager to see what this game might offer me in my endeavors.

Hail to the Deadites interviewed Craig Sherman and Tim Willits, and I didn't realize... or spaced that Tim worked as a level designer for Id Software on Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein after starting out building his own levels for the original Doom.

It starts around the 17 minute mark, but should start there automatically unless something funky happens.

The lore touches are nice, and it looks like fun - and wow, watching Andy and Bruce play games together makes me feel ancient!

Nothing from this game so far has really piqued my interest or made me wanna play it, but I gotta say that piece of music there is really nice. I kinda love it.

Here's a sneak peak at one of the audio logs, man it's great to hear the ghostbeaters again, and with ED 1/2 Knowby as well!

Damn this flew under my rader. This seems like a confirmation to me, hopefully it happens, there's a lot they could pull from with the 2013 film.

Evil Dead: The Game is very much multiplayer first, but there is also a bonus mission mode for solo players that recreates some scenes from the films, such as the cabin invasion from the original flick. It's a nice addition to the game, and the devs already have plans to add more characters and content with a season pass. While the game so far will mostly encompass the original trilogy and the TV series, the devs of the game did have some appreciation for the 2013 Evil Dead remake.

"There's so many more characters, demons and weapons that we can add to the game, and we've teased some content on the season pass already," Willits says. "But not to give too much away, we do have ways to tweak the game itself in the future, so maybe we'll see some interesting stuff come up ... we know Jane Levy, who played Mia [in the Evil Dead remake] pretty well. That's all I'm going to say."

HOLY SHIT!

Ok, since we are getting more playable characters and locations like Castle Kandar I will be really upset if there isn't a fightable and playable version of the Pit Bitch.

Mia would also be a welcome addition.
