Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 General Discussion Thread

I really wonder, what was the feud between Craig and Rob about? S3 seems just like more of S2 so far ...

I ignore everything 1428 Elm Street puts out because they have no quantifiable displayed integrity and basically mindlessly shill the show in a desperate attempt at scoring retweets from Bruce and exclusives from the cast - and they do this gernre-wide for everything from The Walking Dead to Westworld. They're, IMO, an embarrassment to horror and sci-fi journalism.

Kelly's not even the best female character in horror ON HER OWN SHOW. The closest we've come to a well-rounded female character on this show so far was with Ruby, before the decided in season 2 her sole defining character trait was "has baby rabies" and everything since has either been about her conceiving some sort of child or dealing with the double-edged sword of her attraction to Baal. Amanda and Linda B both had or have potential but the former is long gone and the latter seems to have fallen by the wayside inexplicably in this season's promo work.

And this fucking pains me to type, because Dana tries as hard as she can with the material (the asylum episode proves she can act up a fucking storm) and there was some hope of rounding Kelly out in season one. Three seasons in and Kelly's still this angry punk chick who wants revenge, and that's her sole personality trait besides "is kind of a jerk sometimes" and "occasionally has squirmy feelings for Pablo". I know there might be some refuge in saying "Well, it's evil dead, broadness and gore over characterization" but in the films even Sheila and Annie grew and end up with better character arcs than anything Kelly's been given.
The fact that they completely forgot about the Pablo/Kelly romance only to bring it back this season out of the blue is still maddening to me.
.

@Muzzlehatch - I still don't believe that they went through all of that fighting and all of this drama just to basically do the same storyline. I'm guessing Craig was favoring the Kelly character too much and that's why Rob put the breaks on it and created a new character to do the same thing, only without the benefit of Kelly being super-powered because she shares Ash's genes.

I think part of the reason they went away from Kelly being Ash's daughter was the way it started with his "filthy and fine" type comments at Value Stop as it would have been weird to have it all start with Ash hitting on her only to find out later she is his daughter. So why not bring in someone who can fill that roll with a clean slate, and let Kelly and Pablo stand on their own without all the extra baggage that would come along with that sort of thing.

God, I hope that was the reason at this point!

Fresh season 3 still; got this one from Elise!

Sidenote: in the next week or so we should get an actual listing of episode titles, or fairly soon after that if i remember how things went over season 2 correctly.

My main concern is: I really liked the concept of S2. Ash returning to his home town confronting his past and inner demons etc. It had great potential but unfortunatley it was just poorly executed. But in case of S3 even the concept seems lame.

Oooh, great find Nick! Are there other sources or are they just on IMDB? They sound pretty appropriate to the theme of the season and feel closer than anything we got in season 2 pre-officialization but IMDB users tend to mess with stuff so I was curious!

Someone is going to (obviously) die at Ash's shop if the second episode's title pans out.

IMDB has had a lot of problems, but they are usually fairly accurate with episode titles even though they are the only site with any episodic info on AvED at the moment... and we are roughly 40 days out from season 3 hitting our tv/computer screens. I'd like to see some of the writers and directors names too.

I think we will see more than a few people go, but really hope we get to see some people stick around a little longer even with season 4 not being 100% guaranteed.

A bit off-topic but I started watching the Medieval Times - The Making of Army of Darkness documentary and I think this might have been (to some extent) the origins of what eventually ended up being the AvED Ash.

A new photo of when Ash and Candy got hitched:

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I'm actually super curious as to who is directing and writing what. Surprising that we don't have that info, since they usually release it way earlier in the production run and it doesn't spoil anything.

RE the latest revelation: I almost feel like Ash actually marrying Candy and then abandoning her with Brandy is a weird bow to conventionality? We know he knows about Brandy before actually meeting her again from his abashed/wincy "I'm your pop" in the trailer, so either he abandoned Candy pregnant or left when Brandy was a baby, and I don't know how I feel about either option.

This also opens up a plothole. We all know he couldn't have been paying child support (Amanda could've tracked him in two seconds like that) but the backwards-plotting of the show (thanks either Craig or Rob or both of you) requires us to believe that Ash would return to a place where he knows he left a child and a (probably not ex) wife and had the freaking sheriff after his ass for weeks and the guy never called him out for it?

In any event "I knocked up your mom during a one-night stand, she told me about you and sent me pictures of you all the time and I didn't come back because I was afraid you'd die because Deadites" is a lot simpler and makes a lot more sense than this.

(and in a tiny quibble, that is one poorly-rendered in paint fake hand Ash is sporting. I can see the hair on the back of Bruce's hand).

See, even if that had made movie canon it would've been acceptable to me because Ash was a simple retail clerk in a battle with huge, humanity-risking stakes, and is literally battling for the soul of an innocent woman against the demonic force of his worst self. It would be natural for him to be just that scared. This Ash - who's basically Bruce Lite with substance abuse - feels like a third character still.

Just like the rest of you primitive screwheads (ok old joke) I wasn't very excited for season 3 but the new trailer that dropped today fixed that glitch real quick. Much better then the teaser released awhile back. Anyways go on... go watch it here:

I'm still cautiously optimistic.

I enjoy the series. I has wanted the show to be more like the series premiere (done by Sam Raimi) and focus a little more on storytelling and horror and less on humor but I would take more of what we are getting then nothing at all. I enjoyed the first two seasons well enough and it was great to see Bruce return to the role of Ash as well as revisit old locations such as the cabin.

Not excited until this trailer today!

I liked that there will be more stories about Ash's past and the deadites !! =)
