[Official Thread] Evil Dead Rise

Lee Cronin reveals new and old tattoos.

I love that he commemorates his big directing moments with tats. He got a stick figure version of one of the kills from EDR but isn't showing it off until the movie hits wide release!

You can see it under the bracelet on his wrist, and I'm scared to see how that looks on the big screen.

So you can! Staffanie in action, apparently. Tallish looking woman, red long hair - how the mom bites it? Or the youngest kid?

Another big spoiler, via SFX Magazine - link has a spoiler, too, so linked under the cut!

Apparently, in a break with tradition, the Classic is not in the movie! Cronin made up for this by making Beth's chainsaw yellow. We'll see if he's not bsing and this is true soon enough!

Question to those who have already seen it or read spoilers: Are there any connections to other ED movies plotwise? Like is the movie set in the same universe like the original trilogy or the remake?

I would say it is a continuation of the main story from the originals and Ash vs Evil Dead based on reports of the above spoiler from @MaidOfKandar, but enough of a self contained story that you wouldn't need to be steeped in Evil Dead lore.

From what I've been reading, it's pretty fairly self-contained; there's a lot of easter egg references but no apparent full through-link to the other movies. But this is via early reports, so we'll see how things balance out.

Quick edit to add:

I think the biggest/strongest spoiler we have that links it all together is that the Knowby recording is played at some point, I think during the fire and brimstone preacher's recorded demise.

Also we have some more blood totals for EDR, if anyone wants to do a further comparison.

Bruce has canonized Lee Cronin's statement about there being three Necs in the AOD cemetery which has led to three different universes. I look forward to them inevitably walking this back in three years when they hire a fourth director to make a film in this world:

Well, one can only hope
they will walk this back, since it's still a bunch of nonsensical retroactive bullshit that effectively contradicts the entire point of that scene in AoD (not to mention it sounds like a really lazy attempt to find something in the old movies that they can use to throw around the word "multiverse" only because that's the popular thing at the moment). I really, really hope this nonsense about the three books from AoD isn't in the actual film.

I sense that he's just spitballing and trying to make the verse sound more elite, because Sam's already talked about there being more Evil Dead movies in the pipeline.

I had a funny feeling the multiple Necronomicon thing was more than just talk, and they are going to try to tie the movies and series together eventually. Not including The Classic in Rise would leave it open for them explain it's absence by saying it went with Ash and became the Battle Delta, but that is only conjecture on my part should Bruce and Rob get Sam to take the helm for a final movie (Evil Dead 4) in the not too distant future.

Now there is a new tv spot.

At this point I'm like "I know there will be a fourth and fifth and a sixth, so why say there'll only be three branches of the franchise?" Especially when, as DyD points out, it circumvents the whole purpose of the three books in AOD (only one of them is the "Real one" But yeah, it's Evil Dead, everything's made up and the Deadites matter.

Some more spoilers via Bloody Disgusting:

Bruce's cameo is confirmed to be audio-only. It's in the recording that the kids listen to to unleash the evil.

Advanced screening happening in April in NYC.
Dread Central hosting an advanced screening in Washington DC
ComicBook.com screening hosted in Nashville

Spencer Charnas & Sean Clark go to the Evil Dead Rise Screening featuring intro by Bruce Campbell

(possible spoilers)

Just putting this in here because it's April 1st and I don't want anyone to be swayed by yet another of Bruce's April Fool's Day gags; grain of salt, because calendar:

Bruce could make it easier on himself by breaking out the girdle again.

Looks like the blu-ray is coming June 27th:

Quick turnaround for a Blu-Ray/dvd release.

That's the next one I'm going to enthusiastically lie about and bull**t that I've 'accidentally lost it sorry' so I can pay the fine just to own it only because it's got 'RENTAL ONLY' written on the sleeve again. It worked for my Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness back in VHS years only times and again with the remake. I'll buy this one anyway but I'll get an extra buzz out of just because of tradition.

And we have a first clip:

Jane's simple response to Bruce made me chuckle.

And Evil Dead Rise gets the lego treatment.

LOL bless Jane.

A pretty common window/turnaround for big releases these days, believe it or not. But I still feel like they're missing out in Halloween bank.
