Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 General Discussion Thread [MARK YOUR SPOILERS!]

I found myself with a weird AvED block the past few weeks. I tried to rewatch the Cheryl episode, but I ended up with just watching the best bits with Ellen and skipping the rest. I haven't yet seen the newest episode and at this point I think I'll just wait for the season finale and then binge watch all the remaining eps. So I probably won't be part of the future episodes' spoiler discussions, but watching all the remaining four episodes at once could hopefully offer me some new interesting perspective. :)

@Dyd

I'm willing to give the puppet thing a pass because it sort of falls along the same lines as the deer head in 2 getting possessed. I find the whole picture-frame bleeding thing more egregious though I give it a minor pass since the evil's made walls bleed.

General spoiler reaction

I have a feeling Lacey and Linda are both goners; I know Lacey goes Deadite and Kelly kills her due to the season 2 trailer but Linda not being in the ep 9 synopsis has me presuming she's dead too.  I really hope their deaths have actual meaning, otherwise it's yet another season in which Ash's love interest was completely wasted.  If we can call Linda that.

Be super careful with your ep 8 spoilers, folks - we have a two-week wait for new stuff after it airs and there's going to be some major character deaths laced though it!

Here's the description for ep 10 "Second Coming"

"Ash, Ruby and Kelly battle the past to secure a future where Pablo is alive and the world is safe from evil, but the family from hell has other plans."

Well thats cryptic as all hell....

are they talking about the knowby's or did baal come back with some backup in tow ? Now i'm starting to wonder how in the hell is this season going to end but i know one things for sure, it ain't ending on a happy note and someones probably going to f**k up big time. *coughcough*probablyashornot*coughcough*

@Joe

Baal's definitely coming back for episode 9 or 10, we see him fighting with Ash in the Knowby cabin in the season 2 trailer, so Baal probably tries to intercept them at some point.

My guess is "family from hell" is a code word for the AOD #2.

(Also my guess is that, in Evil Dead tradition, they get a future where the world is screwed but Pablo is alive).

Ratings news: Show fell back down to a 0.12 with 237k watching, which is a series low.

Before anyone asks, that's Tanya behind Ash - Knowby's heretofore unknown assistant - who died pre-movies and was stuck in the basement in a bear trap.

If they went through all this busy work and two seasons just to give us the sequel that was promised by the original ending to AoD and we end up with a 3rd season set in a post-apocalyptic future, it would completely blow my mind. I'd actually like that very much. But of course, that's unlikely and just wishful thinking on my part. Still, I like where the story seems to be going. I hate the execution of it all, but the storyline and story beats they apparently planned for this season are actually interesting. I've said it before that one thing I'd love to see this show doing is always end a season with the characters in a worse situation than before (as long as it makes sense, of course, and not like Ash's "deal" from last season) and have each season talking place in a completely different setting than the previous one.

You know, writing about Ash's deal with Ruby from last season got me thinking... What about those huge craters/portals to hell that were opening up while Ash drove away in the Classic to the sounds of Back in Black? I had completely forgotten about that until now. That led to absolutely nothing this season. It's like it never actually happened. What was that all about? It was completely ignored, and the world was actually the same as it always was when the second season started. Maybe they actually wanted this season to be about the post-apocalyptic world and the quest to fix it, but backed out of it due to resource management and budgetary constraints? Maybe they left that possibility for the third season? Food for thought.

About the trailer for episode 9...
They're actually going full Back to the Future with the Classic? With the sparkling and blue lights and everything? That's how they travel back in time? Really? Wow. I don't even know what to say anymore at this point. Also, wasn't the Classic out of commission from the fight with Ash a couple of episodes back? When did they get it fixed?

This is really starting to bug me, No the car is not going BTTF on us, if i had to take a big damn guess either ruby reads a incantation of the time travel spell off of pablo's dead corpse or ash tore the page out of the book just in case he needed to use it again, but i'm willing to bet it's option 1 because ash is in car during his mental breakdown with pablos body and probably sees the spell on him and he has stroke of genius moment before turning around quickly and goes back to pick up ruby and kel. And ash was singing about picking the delta up from the shop in "confinement" when he was singing his little tune and before you say anything, that probably means either a day passed by to get the car fixed up or just a mere couple hours. Who knows

It's also possible that

That Ruby saves them via incantation from slamming into the bum/concrete wall.

Joe is indeed right, though, he did say he's going to pick the car up in the jail episode.

I know it's probably a spell from the book. My problem (and what I think s bothering anybody else who's iffy on it) is that it LOOKS exactly like a Back to the Future time travel scene. Just watching that very short clip, I could actually hear the theme from it in my head. It's a matter of style and tone, not of writing.

Fair enough. However, that touches on another problem I've been having with the show and with these last few episodes in particular... Nothing has any sort of lasting consequence. The Classic, Pablo and Ruby were all fixed/cured/restored of their physical problems and wounds just like that just so the story could move on as if nothing had happened to them. All of the stuff they suffered through simply didn't seem to have any lasting effect.

It's probably going to come down to execution but i honestly don't mind it because it's simple and to the point and is a bit more practical then a big ass swirling portal opening up in middle of the street sucking in everything around it including innocent pedestrians cars ETC ETC. Overall it's going to come down to execution of how they do it but so far from what i've seen i really don't mind it at all.

I'm going to nickname that remake syndrome.  See: Mia suddenly being reborn physically whole after "dying" in that movie.  Deus Ex Machina at its peak.

You just reminded me that Ruby's seemingly serious wound from Ep 6 happened and was never spoken of again.  Pablo I'll give them a pass on, since we do see his wounds when they're banishing Baal. Suppose it all goes under the same heading as 'Ash chopped off his hand and was walking around just fine afterwards.' I kind of connected all of that stuff to his chosen-one ness, and I can sort of give Pablo a pass (he is the book) but they've made a huge deal about Ruby being mortal now.

I saw a potentially spoilerific post by Ray Santiago earlier which bothered me. Not so much that
the character might have  died cos I expect that in the Evil Dead, although I hope that doesn't happen to Pablo.
More that it was tweeted by one of the cast before I've seen Series 2! Maybe my fault for following the cast members on Twitter, but I did it for other reasons than spoilers, although the odd teaser is welcome.

The last posts here suggest I might have gotten the wrong end of the stick though.  :rolleyes:

Hope I get to catch up soon. This spoiler avoidance is getting silly... but I haven't done to badly so far. (I'm keeping out of the episode threads here.)

i would highly advise avoid all the social feeds for the show if you don''t wanna be spoiled severely cause it's pretty bad over there with spoilers. Hope you get to catch up here soon !  :)

$9.99?!? I think I paid $24.96 when I pre-ordered my Blu-ray version back in June along with a few shirts and posters, but this might make a good stocking stuffer for fans who have put off ordering season 1.

Well, that's technically a reference to ED2. It was my impression that they could mention in the show that Ash went to the middle ages all they wanted... They just couldn't reference anything he did while he was there or how he came back. So they were actively avoiding mentioning anything at all just to dodge any story/rights issues that could arise from it. That said, even though they aren't actually referencing AoD, you're absolutely right that it does confirm AoD in a clever, indirect, inconspicuous manner. I'm happy about it.
