Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 General Discussion Thread

Yeah this has been rather weird. Not a single peep and ComicCon is less then 2 weeks away. Problem is that NY Comic Con is in mid-October and the show's second season aired on October 2nd. Unless there is a massive delay in when the show airs, it seems weird that we won't get any information or footage well before that date since in theory the third season would be already airing.

I also hope this isn't an indication that Starz is looking to cancel the series and therefore won't be putting any marketing effort into season 3 at all or very little. Sure not looking good.

Doesn't help the matter any better that they are not on the official schedule either for SD Comic Con, BUT that doesn't mean we won't get some type of information or at the very least a trailer or teaser during the week of said comic con.

As for NY Comic Con, i'm wondering if s3 won't be airing sometime in Nov or sometime in the middle of October.

At this point we'll have to wait and see if anything is announced during SD comic con from starz  :-/

I don't really care I'm fine with a trilogy.  It doesn't mean I don't want more but, they didn't take the show seriously and at this point, there's way too much damage done.  The show is still cool but they butchered too many things.  I'm sure I'll appreciate season 3 in some way.  As I said this is the last chance for them to keep me aboard.  If they're still goofing around with mythology and characters once more, I'll stop watching it.  Sad but true. I don't see the point to follow a story with zero evolution and no characters development.

Yeah well, i want to see this show finish with a ENDING and not a cliffhanger leading into another season that doesn't happen, put too much time and investment into this show for it to end right when it's starting to get it's foot in the door.  Overall i will be extremely pissed off if they do cancel it right when the main final story is just starting to kick off on the show.

Anyways, i had another idea of why they won't be there and that's probably bruce's book tour and i'm gonna bet they called off going to san diego this year because of this exact reason, bruce has got like 18 cites his going to and is probably prepping up for it and couldn't find the time this year except for NY comic con.

Man, if they launch in mid-October we'll have the same issue that dogged the show back in season 1; having to play out over all the major winter/fall holidays and ending in January (if it starts in mid-October again this year, then it'll end around January 7th, presuming they keep it on Sundays and they skip Thanksgiving and Christmas/NYE weeks again.   Both NYE and Christmas Eve fall on Sunday this year, to complicate matters even more).

It seems like the only official panel Starz is going to host so far will be for Outlander.  Interesting, because I thought they'd at least do something for American Gods but according to their ep they're going to be in the middle of shooting season 2 at the time, so several of their actors (presumably anyone they could spare) will be appearing in related panels instead.  AvED's got no excuses - they should've at least done something with Lucy, who would likely draw people even without Bruce being there.  I'm actually surprised Bruce didn't switch the dates around so he could do CC, since he does have a San Diego date penciled in, but he's hitting it in late October.

Bruce was actually on Twitter begging people to ask Starz to set a debut date for season 3, but I put that alongside his 'demand season 2 from Starz' stuff from last year.  You have to wonder though.  There's this weird cloud of meh-ness hovering over this season; there's enthusiasm from Bruce but he always exudes that because he's a consummate salesman.  Everything else has been so weirdly quiet. Maybe they're waiting to announce another show to pair with it, unless they plan on double-headering all of the episodes, which would burn them off by the first week of November.  At this point I don't know if that'd be the healthiest thing for the show, but it's better than letting it linger into winter and letting it get crushed by important football games and various winter holidays.

Bruce has also
loosely hinting that this season DOES end on a cliffhanger.

We can definitely hope they'll drop a trailer but it looks like they won't make a to-do of it since none of the announced panels would properly fit together with it.  They could drop it digitally?  I know a number of shows and movies are doing smaller rollouts that way.  I just double-checked to see when the season 2 trailer dropped; it was July 19th last year.

Hearing Bruce speak of Ash's daughter, I had a horrible feeling they were going to resurrect the original idea from the Season 2 finale. As he went on to mention her being teenaged, I felt better, as having Kelly as a daughter (except in the surrogate sense) just seems too silly to me.

I have mixed feelings, though, as I can see the plot going down a rather formulaic route, and I think they could do more to explore the relationships between the current ghostbeaters (particularly Ash with Pablo and Kelly) . I guess one doesn't preclude the other, and it could still work out okay.

And please nothing too serious. I like the tone of Evil Dead 2, just fine, although serious moments are welcome.

Lucy father just recently passed away and is probably wanting some time to herself to mourn, so that just leaves the supporting cast which IMO, wouldn't be enough for San Diego sorry to say.

Honestly, i'll just be happy if they just release a poster plus a trailer this year, i'll be fine with that and the panels/interviews can come soon after since most of the cast will be at the walker stalker cons this year and they will be making a appearance at the next big comic con and thats NY.

As for what bruce said, i know and that's why i'll be extremely pissed off if they cancel it on a big fat cliffhanger and we get no solid conclusion for the show.

Yeah I know they had wanted to do a five year plan but if they do end up not reaching that goal, I really hope they at LEAST give the writers a chance to attempt to wrap up the story rather then flat out canceling them. That's always the worse!

In the most recent Bruce video, I didn't get the feeling that he was concerned about the show not getting renewed. I hope it does well enough. Isn't the DVD/Blu-Ray sales for Ash VS Evil Dead quite high as well? Could have sworn that they actually sell quite a few copies of show. Pretty sure it was one of Anchor Bay's most successful products in recent years (season 2 is from Lionsgate). It is possible that even if the shows main ratings are not that great, the physical and digital sales could be high enough for Starz to continue it. In theory! I also hear that the show does well in later streaming ratings as well. We also know that Sam Raimi is friends with the owner of Starz so that may have some sway as well. Again, pure speculation on my part!

@Mardeadite - I think a lot of what the show lacks is the right balance between humor, horror and seriousness. They got pretty close last year - the Cheryl section of the plot was flawed but good, the gore looked better and was used correctly, and Ted and Bruce worked quite well when they were actually given time together. A lot of the show's problems continue to revolve around the way they overstuff the plot which is one of the reasons why
I'm not too wild about the Brandy plot thus far.

@Joe - I'm glad in hindsight that they didn't schedule anything because of Lucy's dad's passing, but Google tells me that he only died a few days ago. They were likely plotting the schedule in June or May for Comic Con. And since Dana and Ray have been doing booths at conventions at Walker Stalker and other medium sized cons I'm sure they'd at least draw some autograph interest. And same!

@Kevin - The DVD sales were pretty solid from what I recall; Anchor Bay called themselves 'satisfied' with the numbers, and I think it reached something like twelve or ten at a peak on the overall DVD sales charts. This franchise has always been super hot on the physical media charts. As for digital sales, I remember the news being somewhat less rosy - It wasn't adding much in individual episode sales, and post-episode streaming fell off last year. I know DVR ratings fell way, way off as well last season judging from any resources I could grab, and the cumes were coming in at somewhere around 600 and 700k, which was how much the show was getting in its first season without additional showings and DVR/streaming adjustments. If it were topping the ratings that way Starz would be bragging loudly about it; they never fail to release a notice when Outlander, Power or American Gods reaches a peak.

I watch a LOT of shows and I feel like Ash VS Evil Dead is the only thing that won't have any kind of Comic Con presence next week. I really hope this isn't a bad sign and that Starz will at least give us a season 3 trailer during the Comic Con event. I mean they completely finished filming the entire season a bit back. I feel like it's time to give us something. Guess I'm getting antsy because I am both excited for season 3 and nervous as to why there has been no promoting of this season at all thus far.

On a side note, I wonder why Starz went with Lionsgate for distributing season 2 DVD/Blu-Ray instead of their own Anchor Bay.

*slight spoilers*

So we talked about lee majors coming back a while ago and well to update that further, lee elaborates on his role a bit for this upcoming season.

Source : https://twitter.com/nckhui/status/886343005438914561

So he will be making a appearance as a ghost in S3,  i'm not surprised. I think it could work if done correctly and not in the way they did last season with the force ghost stuff, but hey more brock even it's only for a short small appearance i'm just happy there bringing him back in for more ! Makes me wonder what they plan to do with brock this season.

Well, this mean they won't fix anything about the butterfly effect disaster they did on last season...Don't look cool so far.

Ash's daughter is also a bad news.  I just guess this will turns into all father / daughter cliché we all already know.  So far I think the girl who found the book in the last minutes of season 2 is Ash daughter.  They're just pointing the pitch of the last show runner into another direction.  This is a bit pointless since they fired him or he leaved (I think it's a bit of both) because of that.  I just hope I'm dead wrong about this.

I don't think we should be calling crow until we get some official news of the general main plot and footage of this season because all we've gotten so far is plot points and that's about it.

All we know so far is.

-They will be doing the ash's daughter story line this season, the way bruce worded it, it might be a side plot then what the actual main plot might be.

-Lee Majors is returning as a ghost this season, in what capacity, we don't know since all lee said in that video is "I'm coming back as a ghost for this season"

-And the final and very big important thing besides the ash has a daughter plot is the big "jumping off the cliff, world changing" ending that's gonna be happening and bruce was very excited when he was talking about it so who knows what they have in-store there, hopefully a post apocalyptic ending might be in store.

And that's basically about it, we have no idea what kinda tone there going for with this new season, how's it gonna look or feel or what even the main plot of the season will be. All we've basically gotten is these few major snippets of info, so let's wait and see before we start throwing the tomatoes.

Well, sorry about being pessimist about this 3rd season.  I don't want to throw tomatoes but the snippets of info don't look positives so far.  Am I too early to give my thoughts? Maybe, but this is what everybody does when they pitch an idea of what could happens in the next season.  So it is basically "wait & see" to share your fear but any other predictions or expecations are welcome.

The fact that Lee Majors told he play a ghost in S3 point out that the season 2 ending is the real deal and not an illusion.  Unless they explain in the story that events can be changed but not your fate.  This could be a logical explanation about why he's till dead.

Anyway I'll wait after season 3 final to give my thoughts.

I hope i didn't come off as angry in that post, wasn't my intent at all. just saying "wait and see" as you put it as we haven't gotten much this year in terms of sneak peeks for the new season.

That's what i was thinking when the finale first came out, they can change stuff in the past and effects of that come off on there present forms but there current present timeline stays the same and ash's fate can't be changed and he still has to fulfill his prophecy to the book. Hell i think ruby offered a explanation to this somewhat in ep 9 before ash cut her off. Let me go get a quote real quick !

There are infinite timelines, and always a primary "present" you which remains constant but the necronomicon- - Ruby EP9

So what this means here, is that they went to a timeline that was in the past and changed things to effect there present self's (Pablo being alive again and ash getting his hand back) but there current timeline is unchanged and ash's fate is still on a course to defeating the evil, so the parade and everything at that ending there is there current timeline with everything that happened before is still unchanged.

And before anyone asks how they got back to the present, well it was mentioned in the episode due pablo being connected to the book he might know the incantation to getting back to there present timeline, so i'm gonna assume they had pablo take them back to the present.

That's how i think there going with it if they don't show the butterfly effect's when they come back but hopefully they offer some type of explanation since a vast majority of the audience were severely confused by S2's finale.

Don't worry you didn't come off that angry.  I know we haven't gotten much information right now but there's enough matter to start questioning about a few points.  Both negative and positive. I'm not here either to bash about the show.  I'm a big Evil Dead fan as many other here.  I'm definitively not here to start war or any childish game.  Just here to have a good talk with other fans.  ;)

I'll maintain my point to only speak of season 3 at the end of it.  I'll probably comment on the trailer when available. I'll review it as one big movie. That's all ;)

About Ruby's quote on timeline.   Well, this is one of the main flaw of the series.  Nothing is really explained and left too much room to interpretation.  So peoples hang on on some quotes that never really stand at first watch and should.

Also this theory doesn't work at all, just because Pablo is still alive.  If primary present remains constant, Pablo should be dead.  This mean you could travel time and choose to change only one thing without affecting the other.  Which doesn't make sense unless they came back in a timeline where Pablo is alive and no one else.  Why just save your buddy when you could save your entire family too? .  Why choosing this timeline? It's a non sense.  This need to be explain by the writher through the story.  So far there's no logic.  We'll need to wait and see until the beginning of season 3.

True, but you also have to remember that pablo was brought back through a deal with the book and not with time travel since it was revealed baal was just playing possum with them, so his part dosen't really count in hindsight with my theory. But, we do have ash's hand coming back due to time travel having a effect on his present form.

And i might be in the same boat with you this year in just waiting to review the whole season when it's fully aired, post my quick reactions and give my final review at the end of it.

Bad news first.

Now for the good news.

While this may be bad news promotional wise, BUT it makes me wonder if they ain't holding off till late august to start the promotional tour all the way into the fall. I know some other shows that do that so i'm wondering if that's not whats happening this year with the show, guess we'll have to wait and see. (God i'm starting to sound like a broken record over here)

Man, I'm hopeful that we don't end up with force ghost-a-palooza this season.  I know Lee can pull it off but it didn't work well last season.

Whelp, San Diego Comic Con has indeed passed, and it looks like the only Aved-related thing that got any promotional shine beyond the two figure announcements was Bruce's autobiography.  We're a full year past the last promo trailer.  The fact that they're putting such heavy emphasis on NYCC makes me wonder if it's going to come out later in the fall than usual, around Halloween or in early winter.  The show might do better in February post holidays/football, or in the early spring before the last chunk of Game of Thrones episodes airs.

Don't wanna cause a panic or mass hysteria as this is just a speculation/guess post from reddit but i figured it might interest you guys and showcase starz schedule this year and what it might mean for the premiere date for AvED. (Just warning you right now, it's not looking good)

It looks like Season 3 probably won't premiere until 2018. Starz announced at their TCA panel today that "The Girlfriend Experience" Season 2 is going to premiere in November. That means they will have three shows airing over the fall months, including "Outlander" and "Survivor's Remorse" and Starz usually doesn't air more than a couple shows simultaneously. The audiences of these shows are also quite different than that of "Ash".

My guess would be that Season 3 will premiere in the January slot previously occupied by "Black Sails". In all honesty, Starz basically has no choice but to premiere it in January as the only other series they have in the can is the upcoming "Counterpart", and they like to schedule original programming throughout the year. I don't know what this means for the future of the show as it would likely push back the production of a potential Season 4. I still remain hopeful that we will at least get a fourth season so that the creative team can give the series a proper conclusion.

Source :  https://www.reddit.com/r/AshVsEvilDead/comments/6q7sq8/season_3_will_likely_premiere_in_2018/

Hopefully this is wrong and they still premiere in the fall but if this turns out to be true, then oh boy  :s
