RE: Evil Dead Television Series

@SutterCane - I'm willing to give Ash a (tiny) mulligan on that one for two reasons:

1: Sheila isn't even the first woman he meets after Linda dies.  If you count Evil Dead 2 into the joint continuity he meets Annie (with whom he has a platonic friendship) and Bobbie Jo (who just kind of exists to him) if "only" AOD counts into the equation, then he meets with Arthur's handmaidens before they exchange more than screams.   Evil Dead 2 can be seen as Ash's accelerated mourning process RE Linda's death: he does have a nervous breakdown over her, and the memory of her is what saves his soul.   It's speculatable that he's locking his memory of her away in a mental closet; that Linda's been cast for AvED is interesting and suggests he's still thinking about her years later.

2: Ash isn't looking for a fight from Arthur.  He only gets angry when he's dragged off to his presumed death.  It's sort of understandable why he might not care about any of them at first, because they're means to an end toward him getting home and forgetting all of this happened.  Then when the only person he's developed a bond with (Sheila) is kidnapped, everything snaps into perspective for him, and his grudging respect for Arthur and Henry ultimately result in him doing the Right Thing.

I definitely don't think Ash is perfect; it's one of the reasons I really love the character.  He's rash and rude and doesn't take time to mediate on his choices.  And he does lie to Sheila - what he said to her we have no clue, except perhaps he praised her beauty ("You found me beautiful once").  As Bruce once said, he's very, very bad at slow thinking, so everything - from screwing up the words to leading Arthur's army to even sleeping with Sheila - can be seen as snap impulses he comes to regret with more space and time.  So imperfect but sympathetic is what he ultimately is.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

So this alternative trailer must be what was shown at the con, and the original trailers handling of the part with the book was a lot better. The BS part doesn't work in my opinion, and it also misses the line about Jackhammering like a quarterback on prom night dearly. Poor Pablo not only sees shit, but he hears it too. I have to say the last look from Kelly was quite amusing though... and says a lot with out any words.

/Interesting.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I was perusing IMDB last night, and was checking out some of Dana DeLorenzo's work which was not really impressive in terms of volume... but quality. She was on Craig Ferguson's show, and has a Youtube page with her doing some really killer impressions. She/Kelly may very well be the one to watch on Ash vs Evil Dead.

There was also some behind the scenes footage shown at the con. Really want to see that!

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I saw someone tweet about that, but so far nothing has popped up... and no one is really talking about it on Twitter so i'm perplexed by it. Hopefully, it does surface along with the reaction from the ladies of the Evil Dead who were reportedly on stage while it played. I really want to see the original casts thoughts as well as some fan reaction.

Wish Granted  :D (Wizard comic con though)

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

Wait, so they showed the original trailer at Wizard World and not the extended one?

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I thought the Youtube link included behind the scene footages.  It's only the first trailer nothing more...I guess Wizard World didn't any special treatment.   :-/

Yet another good catch, Hurley!

Coming back with thoughts in a bit!

ETA: @Nick - the picture I posted of the Ladies a couple of pages back is of them reacting to the trailer!

THOUGHTS:

1: Well that proves the Eli spoiler is real.  I still have no idea how I feel about that.
2: Annd the humor definitely seems to be leaning toward cheesy/sitcommy.  IDK how I feel about that, either.
3: The sight of Bruce fighting with absolutely nothing is hilarious (and proof that the doll scene is indeed CGI)
4: HOW did Ash get the book?!  WHY would he keep the book?!  I'M GOING TO KEEP ASKING THAT UNTIL IT MAKES SENSE TO ME.
5: "We're creating a new genre for television!" Ray, honey, it's called horror comedy and it's been around forever.
6: "Shoot first, think never."  Well, they do think that's the Ash credo.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

Side note: can someone tell me what's Ash saying in the final line? Can't quite catch the end of the sentence.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

@Hurley - *points up* Shoot first, think never.

Thanks. I deleted the question right when I saw the answer in your post. (so you can say I deleted first and thought never). :)

HEE!

And Blood Brood SFX, who apparently created the reworked cabin for AvED, had a full display at the convention.  This is apparently what the ED 2 cabin looks like thirty years later:

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

My only big worry with this show is that it will be more of a comedy than a horror. Personally, I would rather see something in the sense of Evil Dead II, that perfectly balanced horror and comedy, than Army of Darkness, that was basically "just" a dark fantasy comedy.

Sam Raimi and everybody else keeps saying that this is a continuation of the horror tradition from the first two movies and I keep telling myself that all these trailers and videos are funny and not scary just to get the attention of the broader audience (and because it's easier to make a funny trailer rather than a scary one), but I don't know...

Do you think it really could be a genuinely scary TV show, same as a funny one at the same time (and so to be something special on today's TV, like Ray said - though not so naively), or that it will be just a splatter sitcom?

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I was at WWC and for the Evil Dead 1 & 2 reunion panel they showed us EXCLUSIVE  footage of AvED that hasn't been shown anywhere else. Not even SDCC. I foolishly didn't record it. But it was pretty damn sweet.

Lots of new footage shown. Interviews with the cast. Footage of Sam directing. And you truly do get the sense that the show will be more like the tone of Evil Dead 1 and 2 rather than Army of Darkness (thank God). And like Evil Dead 2 there will be some moments  of different colored blood.

One BTS shot was Ash and Pablo getting splattered by  olive greenish looking blood after blowing a deadite away with the boomstick. Ash quips "shoot first, think never." Or something like that.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

@chainsaw_master: it sounds like the reel posted above is what they gave you!  :D   The line you quoted is definitely in the trailer above (and is about the most Ashlike thing that's passed through his lips since footage started to leak).

As for the tone: they've been billing it a lot as a 'horror sitcom'.  Judging from the humor we've been seeing, it does feel like a sitcom with gore in it.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

-smacks forhead- hahaha I should have checked the previous page haha. And yay! And HD version! So glad it's posted!

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

:D  It's all good!  And that's confirmation that it's the same reel!  My only question is, which version of the trailer did they give you?
