OK, the guy was apparently shouting a bunch of stuff beyond what made it into the microphone as he retreated from the theatre and now I'm wondering what he said because I can't parse it. I'll have to listen to it in the morning.

Going to be interesting to see what the wide reaction to the movie is, the way the crowd's intensity is described here is fascinating. I wonder if "Rise" might be more polarizing than the remake.

From all i've seen from the reactions, seems to be mostly leaning towards positive and some being mixed on the film but still staying in the range of positive, i have a feeling the wide reaction will probably lean towards the positive range for this entry, but we'll see!

Just found some more info on the heckler incident, and this person sounds like quite the piece of work.

SIDE NOTE: At the screening there was a guy scrolling through his phone the entire movie. I genuinely don’t think he watched one second of the movie…because when I say the entire time I mean I’m confident he saw almost none of the film. So I already had beef with him. But after the screening, during the Q&A, he screamed out to the filmmakers that their movie “fucking sucked” and then threw his popcorn, flipped the middle finger, and stormed out past me after Bruce Campbell told him to “get the fuck out of here”.

I swear there hasn’t been even a single normal Q&A session this year. Austin is wild.

Several people saying they cried during the film, but not from the brutality - they were emotionally moved. I can't parse whether the humor is intentional because I keep reading that it's either filled with sly witty subtle humor or that it's the most serious entry in the franchise ever, people are saying completely disparate things about it.

One of the early comments I saw was called it delicious, gnarly, and having a lot of dialogue from Deadites that is cutting and darkly comical on occasion.

Eating all of your popcorn and staying until after the credits like Rob said is akin to a diner who eats all of their food before complaining to waiter, and like that individual (who I witnessed) in the restaurant who was looking for a free meal this person craved attention whether they were just being an contrarian asshole... or out of anger over falling asleep. I so wanted it to be the latter, but the more I read about it the more it looks like the former.

I'm less dismayed about him yelling this shit at Rob and Bruce and Sam (note: still a bad/dick move) than him doing it without giving the movie a chance. For me it's also that he wasn't paying attention in the first place.

Major plot spoilers via Variety and Bloody Disgusting reviews:

* Book is uncovered in this version of events because the apartment building has been built over a bank vault. Someone stored this version of the Nec in a vault down there. Earthquake happens, and, per Bloody Disgusting, a pit opens in the building's parking garage. The middle teen goes spelunking, finds old book and a recording of a preacher from the 1920s giving a hellfire sermon which includes the Magic Words. Plays recording, hell breaks loose. This sounds convoluted, but better than Eric opening a book wrapped in barbed wire with BIG ENGLISH WARNINGS ON IT.

* Beth is a guitar tech.

* Beth is pregnant during the events of this film. This is why she goes to reunite with his sister.

* Ellie's husband has recently left her.

* At least one scene involving scissors.

* Power outage occurs during the film, requiring usage of a flashlight/candle.

* People puke beetles/bugs at some point.

* At least one use of "Dead by Dawn."

46 reviews in and Evil Dead Rise is holding strong at a solid 8.8 on IMDB while it currently sits at a shocking 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 9 reviews. I want to stress that these sites are never perfect, but I was wondering how it would look as more came in... and it didn't change much in the last however many hours. Lee Cronin is getting a lot of praise for his writing and Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan are getting a lot of it for their acting. Gnarly is a word that keeps popping up.

Heh, it's made some mainstream outlets over here. The post on Discussing Film went viral.

Very promising; we'll see what happens. Lots of universal praise for Sutherland and Sullivan indeed - I've seen a few nods for the work of Nell Fisher as Kassie as well.

EDIT: And people have swung back around to insist that the heckler footage is a staged studio ploy, because of course.

Also that's a nice poster. I love that they've decided the central image is the cheese grater so that's what promotion is hitting up. I wonder if they wish they'd given out toy box cutters for the remake's screenings.

BossLogic made the poster for Warner Bros., and the heckler story is getting a lot of coverage for this movie with Fox News of all sites reporting on Bruce's handling of the situation... but Lee and Warner Bros. have really leaned into a lot of fan concepts for the poster art which is nice to see from Warner. After hitting Sam Raimi Updates with a DMCA takedown which I got too for re-sharing a recent post with pics that they released a few days later.
 
Oh wow, that's BossLogic?! I've seen their work in other places, glad they hired him. I saw that those pictures poofed into the ether; didn't know if they ever got released. OK, I had no idea it made it all the way to Fox News of all places?! There's someone who claims to be the same person who's in every single post dedicated to the movie today on Twitter and I have no idea if they're the same person.

Trying not to keep the blue bird in business, but most of the good sources use it for putting out info quickly... and we might as well enjoy watching the Muskenburg go down in flames, heh. BossLogic appears to be a fan of the Evil Dead franchise while SXSW used the shot of Bridget looking at the camera for a graphic on social media while other have used a brightened and very cool pic of Ellie outside the door looking up at the camera. So they seem to have relaxed on some pics being used since they really don't give anything away. A little over a month out we are kicking it into full gear.

Ellie is a tattoo artist, and Lee Cronin has a stick figure tattoo of one of the kills as a tribute to this.

Confirmation Ellie's neighbors bite it as canon fodder; I've seen rumors that two of them are named in tribute to ED characters (Jake and Scott).

At some point Kassie crafts sharp staffs for her defense and mounts a doll's head on top of it, calling it "Staffanie," which is already becoming a meme among those who've seen the film. No word on whether or not she does this as a Deadite or part of her defense post-possession.

About the heckler incident mostly, and while the former company has entertainment interests (just watch those who they call reporters) I haven't seen the latter cover such a story since Lucy Lawless roasted Kevin Sorbo by calling him a peanut... but that had a political element to it. It was all on social media so they didn't get any clicks.
