... I'm going into this with an open mind. I liked the latest Planet of the Apes and loved the original as a kid. I liked the 60's Star Trek series as a kid and loved the last movie. The original Night of the Living Dead was a great movie and Savini's early 90's remake had heart and moved with the times (Barbara becoming more Sigourney Weaver pro-active and the advances in make-up from the Optic Nerve company's use of computers to design those creatures). The laziest remake to me would still be the shot for shot Psycho remake, not a re-imagining at all. I don't like the sound of the skull in the mirror that's written to be included in this remake though. Is it meant to be a subliminal nod to the US ED2 poster's skull?. Raimi used his mirrors as a device for Ash to plunge his hand into like water and Ash's reflection to reach out and grab him. Again, I'll have to wait and see but if it's just some crappy bloodied skull shown on screen I'm going to be dissapointed .. either way, the original is still there if I don't like this one.

One of the best shot fake fan made trailers ever... though use of the Ammityville Horror theme and Book of the Dead DVD book both give that away, it's still well worth a watch! :

.. I just also noticed in the fake trailer the opening credit for Fed Alvarez lists him as the 'dicrector'  ;D

.. according to this 2007 article link, Sam Raimi was trying to get this remake rolling five years ago but a South Korean director he approached turned it down .. the whole article's a good read .. :

This new demon reminds me heavily of Dick Smith's make-up on Linda Blair for The Exorcist with the skin lacerations, yellowing iris contacts and lighting:

So.... I have been against the remake since I first heard about it, but now after hearing Kain's report from the NYCC and the input Bruce and Sam have had over the whole production I'm kinda excited to see the trailer, never thought I would feel this way about a remake of our beloved Evil Dead. Also good to know Ash will make a cameo appearence, just wish the Deadites had the white eyes  ;D

I've got a soft spot for those old skool white eye sclera (however it's spelt) lenses too but ... on a personal level .. when my best bud Jez Collins 'back in the day' first talked me into watching the Evil Dead, I remember him telling me something along the lines of "It's like The Exorcist X 5 ! .. you can't kill them ! .. you'd have to nail them to the floor to survive !" .. that and I've always felt that Mr. Raimi borrowed the visual imagery of the ticking wall clock suddenly freezing in shot from The Exorcist scene of that clock later doing exactly the same thing in The Evil Dead ..

I like the monotone choice of lighting and I think Alvarez is an editor's type of film maker from watching his earlier shorts and from reading the spoiler review of his yesterday's Comicon teaser ..
