Ash wakes up in an asylum and a seemingly helpful doctor tries desperately to get him to admit his horrific acts so his healing can begin. Ash's world seems to crumble around him. Was this all in his head? Is he really Ashy Slashy?

I'm excited for Suzanne's work; I think she's doing the eighth episode or the seventh?  If they put her in charge of

Cheryl's return

ALSO I am hearing that we're having a VP shuffle for the prospective season 3 (I think this is in an interview Bruce just did about naming a new supervising EP - I can't remember which interview because the press blitz has been so thorough that I'm barely caught up with it.)   Which will still be prospective until Starz gets off its butt and does an official press release.  SERIOUSLY WHERE IS STARZ IN THIS?

But yes, I really want SOME kind of serious emotional closure.
Suzanne who?

And are we losing ol' Craiggy-boy as showrunner? I sure hope so. I really feel that half the problems with the show might be his fault. I think he values the humor over the horror and I want it the other way around.

Suzanne = Suzanne Keilly, who wrote the short Joe linked.

Yep, the rumor is he's been replaced by one of the guys who co-wrote My name is Bruce.  In case you wanted the show to be MORE like that.

Hmmm
I wonder if that makes Ep 8 the jail ep.

This could be interesting; my fingers are crossed for it!

ETA: @ Joe - have they attached a writer to episode yet? It's still a blank slot on Wikipedia.

Oh, God... Please, let this be true. I was starting to notice how silent he was lately. Last year he was in almost every interview and behind the scenes video. This year it's almost as if he was never a part of it at all. It almost feels cruel to say this, as I'm sure he meant well, worked his ass off and the show probably wouldn't have happened without him, but it always seemed to me he was a little lost and had bit more than he could chew. He always looked like a rather poor leader and I feel a lot of the first season's problems were his fault. He just never seemed to have a clear idea of where the show was supposed to go and what Evil Dead was supposed to be.

That does indeed sound very interesting. I just hope they do as much with it as they can and don't play it just for laughs. That's a great opportunity to give Ash some actual personality and character development and that's why it sounds so interesting to a lot of us. It is also an opportunity to finally spend some time with him (mostly) alone. I sincerely hope it isn't just a scene of
Ash fighting his therapy puppet and nothing else
.

Let's look past Mnib for a moment and let's look at marks track record as of late.

http://imdb.com/name/nm0894156/?ref_=m_tt_cl_wr

....I think mark is gonna do just fine as the showrunner.

Daredevil and especially Battlestar Galactica are really impressive (and if I know my BSG well, all the episodes he wrote were excellent). Before Ash, Craig DiGregorio "only" wrote some Reaper, Chuck, or Workaholics episodes, so I believe this would be a change to the right direction.

I'm willing to give him a shot too, though his track record does have some spots on it (I've seen people complain about the way he wrote Daredevil and BSG and Smallville fans I'm friends with have been marginally complimentary toward his work).

Found the interview Bruce did about the situation, it was for AICN.

Bruce Campbell: Right. Now it's time for the big story, the big arc. We get Mark Verheiden in this season, who is an old-time sci-fi guy with a lot of experience. He wrote My Name Is Bruce. I'm very excited to get Mark involved. It's his writer's room now, he's running the show.
Quint: I always appreciate good character work, which is why I really dig the family dynamic that's growing between Ash, Pablo and Kelly.
Bruce Campbell: I've had meetings with Mark and what's important to all of us for the long term health of the show is that we service the secondary characters. Those actors gotta get out of bed going “Cool! Can't wait to do this or that” rather than being the guy who says every fourth line. “Yeah, sounds good, Ash!” or “Come on, let's go!” I think Mark will add a new dynamic to that, too.

You can surmise from that that he's either supervising the writing or he's the new running EP; since he has no credits for S2 Bruce seems to be talking about S3.

Being involved with a show the quality of Daredevil certainly gets me excited. I sure hope he sees the franchise more the way we do.

The Asylum episode is one of those things I would want on a mandatory checklist of "ways to explore Ash," and while I am excited, I will expect them to come up short with it. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

^^ What Kain said.

I'm wondering if they were trying to wrangle seasons 3 and 4 out of them at the same time after all and Starz would only agree to give them S3, so they locked the deal down before Bruce went to Spain for the Sitges Festival.  That was a weirdly long period between the initial announcement and the eventual confirmation from Bruce.

ETA: should be back with ratings in a few hours!

Here's the ratings, While it's still good were in 300 area for viewers but it went down a tiny bit but not a whole lot, its at this point with the ratings that i'm not longer gonna care for them because of how starz is operated and it being subscription based channel, so something is obviously holding the show up since they got the renewal but i hope the viewership rises a bit for next week's episode considering with what all happen in episode 3 but like i said before hand i ain't gonna hold my breath on it any longer TBH.

It only went up a tick from the post-premiere crash we had last year, which isn't the best news. This brings them in at 59th place this week, by the way.

Surprised the head-up-the-butt stunt last week didn't gain them any traction.

You (by which I mean all of us and not specifically you, Joe) should actually should care about ratings, though, because Starz apparently takes them into account along with subscription numbers; that's why DaVinci's Demons got canned after three seasons of slowly decelerating ratings and they made the mistake of canning Spartacus even though the show kept getting better numbers in Syndication because they got worse and worse broadcast numbers for original airings (this is by Bruce's own admission, and he'd know). Otherwise Spartacus would still be airing to keep its cult audience happy; they don't just keep shows running for no reason. The show probably got renewed because of whatever numbers the Starz ap is doing plus DVD sales plus whatever the total weekly cumes ended up being (something like 700k a week?), but everything can change in the blink of an eye.

I'm wondering what they'll do with S3. The fact that they're doing an EP shuffle is a sign, and something Starz has actually requested of other shows (IE DVD and TGE, which has terrible numbers but is being renewed with a complete writer, director, actor and producer overhaul next season as I've said before). It's quite possible that they might shuffle AvED off to Fridays if numbers don't perk up and most of the numbers come from binge watchers, and quite likely the partnership with Blunt Talk will be over (it actually got a .03 this week, which is remarkably awful), which will only benefit them. I do find it interesting that Bruce didn't get the double renewal he was all but demanding in the press. It's mixed news, but at least season 3's been guaranteed.

My best advice, as always, is to watch the show a bunch on the ap or OnDemand. At least one DVR replay counts toward it too.

ETA: if anyone has last week's +3 ratings for the show, please post them, I've been scouring my sources and haven't found a thing.

The +7s are out for last week, and there's some minor good news.  The show gained .04 and roughly 400k viewers, which is about what they were doing last year.

As long as the ratings aren't going down, that's at least good news. It would be better if we gained, though.
